This is a bit funny when you consider how many times I've personally told God that he can go "F" himself (and Jesus too, while he's at it). By the way, it also proves that you don't have to worry about being struck by lightening either.
It is so sad... the very people who have "God" to protect them are the ones who are the most lost and shocked when tragedy strikes. It is much better to learn how to stand on your own two feet, rather than lobbying a supernatural power who promises to MAYBE step in and help... but never does. It is amazing how after such devastation and tragedy, they still say, "God is good."

Hey Marilyn! Yes, it has been a long time since I've posted. I think about you guys often. I hope we'll get a chance to see each other sometime soon.
It is tough being apart during this time. Tracy just called and said she got some ice and is taking it to my mom (a Dub), as well as some breakfast. I wonder what the Dubs have been doing for her... I doubt anything, but I haven't spoken to her since Friday noon. Perhaps they've been checking on her... but I think Tracy would have mentioned that.
Anyway, nice to hear from you!

I thought I'd jump in and add to the story...
Tracy and her son, Nick, and my son, Michael, are just fine. They are in a motel near Sarasota. My mom (a Dub) lives about a mile from us, and is okay.
I was caught in Boise, Idaho, when the hurricane hit... so I wasn't able to get back. I'm in a motel in Orem, Utah right now. I have to be in St. George and Salt Lake City early next week to do seminars, so I just stayed in the area.
Our house faired very well... just lost some rain gutter and a couple of trees. Our neighbors were not so lucky... they lost most of the shingles on their roof.
The power is still off, and the phones are sporadic .
It was difficult for me emotionally to not be there. I won't make it home until next Saturday morning.

since being da'd a few years back i haven't had any real contact with my jw family.
i've accepted this and moved on, just like most of us have.
just recently i've been contacted by them whenever they need something.
Hi Roy, last week I was thinking along similar lines...
From a Dub perspective, it is perfectly okay for a DA'd / DF'd person to help out aged parents with "repairs" and such, but not okay to associate otherwise.
In other words, they take advantage of us by only associating with us when they need something, but then deprive us of the more positive aspects of the family relationship such as socializing, get-togethers, emotional support, and the like.
This is an injustice as far as I'm concerned. But then we as ex-Dubs have to do what we have to do, and I think much good can be said of you for following your heart, provided you don't allow them to cross your boundaries (which is not always easy).

my step daughter's is having their house taken from them because of his signing a note for his dad.
they live in va in the country.
my step son just had his social security taken untill august because social security made a mistake.he is disabled because of a back injury.

I'm sorry things are not going so well. I just want to say that I've always appreciated the posts you've written and your general approach to religion after leaving the Dubs. I always try to read your posts, and have for the past few years.
My dad always liked the saying, "This too shall pass." I don't say it much, but I know it is true. I wish I could offer some magical words to cheer you up, but at least know that you are appreciated.

reading a number of posts here it seems like a fair amount of posters are still into and pushing the christian philosophy.
i would like to start a discussion here that objectively examines the evidence and not base a belief on "blind faith".
after leaving the jdubs, i have read a number of books over the past few years.
ThiChi, with all due respect to you and your beliefs, there are way too many moral problems with the whole Adam/Eve, Tree of Knowledge thing, etc. to support the concept of Universal Soverignty and how God needs to settle a legal precident, etc.
I agree wholeheartedly with funkyderek (as usual)... These issues surrounding "Christ dying for us" have nothing to do with us... it is not our "stuff." It's Adam, Eve, God and Satan's "stuff." I had nothing to do with "sin" in Eden. Neither did you. Of course, I no longer believe in any of that, but even when I did, I couldn't cope with the punishing of innocent people (children) due to the "sins" of others (parents).
I didn't and don't want to get started in any kind of debate on this, because I just don't care enough to discuss it at length. Besides, I've already debated it too many times. It always comes down to belief systems, which is fine. I only wanted to share my brief thoughts.
I am much happier without religion than I ever was with it. But I respect those who feel the need to pursue it.

it will be in print in about six months.

i was thinking about my past as a jw today and realized that i never did fit the mold quite right.
i studied, went to the meetings, out in service, and all those things so i appeared to be a great example.
and i really did love god and wanted to do the right thing.
Perhaps not a "good witness," but an outstanding "human being"!
