i don't post too often here but have been coming here for a few years now.
i have been successfully fading for the past 10 years (so i thought) but went to visit jw family members last week and the matriarch of the family asked us if we still believed it was jehovah's organization.
after avoiding a direct answer and trying to skirt the issue for a while, finally the hubby said, "no, we don't believe it's jehovah's organization".
You did good.
You should not have to sacrifice TRUTH for unity.
Standing up for your truth is what this journey is all about.
And maybe we don't always know what the truth is, but sometimes we get closer by the process of elimination....
by knowing what truth IS NOT
Everyone has to move at their own speed.

Why do you feel the need to do this? It seems to me both sides - the JW and the non-JW - feel the urge to win over the other side.How do you deal with this?

It's like others on this thread...the ISSUE of the SUBJECT matter is totally ignored, and instead they use some trivial thing to try to redirect the conversation. Or they declare this trivial thing as the answer to your question.

15 Not attending the meetings of the congregation is one of the most obvious ways of forsaking and neglecting the “house of our God.” If a member of God’s dedicated, baptized household willfully fails to attend, he is virtually disfellowshiping the congregation from himself. by now , most of you have probably been aware that the watchtower society and governing body has done a real cover up on the child abuse scandal that came out this year .
it has truly been amazing , that in spite of nbc news coverage of the child abuse crisis in the organization - probably 90 to 95 % of jehovah's witnesses did not know it even took place or happened at all .
the governing bodies way of exercising " information control " on the jehovah's witness rank and file members !
