Dinner guest- When you bring wine shouldn't they offer you some?
by Witness 007 ini've gone to many a witness dinner where i would bring one or two nice wines, hoping we would have some with dinner.
{to numb the boring conversations} only, to find the couple say "thanks" put it in the cabnet....and serve up lemonade..... and it's not an alcohol thing....two different brothers brought out there own "home made" vino instead, which taste like a mixture of fruit punch and vineger!

When a guest brings food or drink to a pre-planned meal (not a picnic, pot luck or covered dish dinner) the item is not served with the meal but simply viewed as a gift. The guest's opinion on the matter is moot; they were invited to consume the meal, not contribute toward it.
In other words, if you want to eat/drink a particular thing, do it somewhere else or at another time. When you're invited to someone's house and accept the invitation, eat what's served without thinking about how you would have done it different.

we were heavily influenced by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's recently-released two-album set called "Will the Circle be Unbroken" One time we tried to learn to play that song ("Circle") by sitting back to back in a circle (four of us), with our arms sort crossed, each of us plucking one instrument with our right hand, and fingering another instrument with our left hand. For example, I would sit with Jim on my left and Kory on my right, and Kenner behind me. I would hold my banjo to my left and pick it while Jim fingered it. Meanwhile, Kory would hold his mandolin to his left and pick it with his right hand, while I fingered it with my left.
Dissonance at its JW best.

Sister dies (?) at DC
by DoomVoyager inno, this is not a joke.
having actually managed to survive through the entire 3 grueling days of the dc after attending the friday session today (hit sat and sun last weekend) i was initially going to make a criticism of some of the parts & points at the dc.
however, something that i witnessed today changed my mind.

On the other hand, put yourself in that woman's place: would you want 9,000 eyes staring at you while you were suffering?
It's a good thing that they kept the speechmaking going, sad that there was no acknowledgement later.

It's pornogra-food, people! Those shows are for people who can only watch! It's about as "real life" as porn-anything-else.
Glad you're feeling better, H!

Speaking of fading...
by Jim_TX ini just read another posting about a fella fading, and it brought to mind the following.. on the weekends, i go to a local coffee shop in the am for coffee and a little breakfast taco.
i usually sit at the counter, where i also read my electronics-related magazines and i also write thoughts in a gridded-paper notebook.
i immediately pegged them as jws - it was too easy.

Instead of speaking to them directly try getting info from the waitress/waiter/counterperson.

Son sends "apostate" text message - Now the elders want to talk to him!!
by GoingGoingGone inmy 17 year old son told his dad that he didn't want to be a jw anymore about 8 months ago i think, and doesn't go to meetings or assemblies.
he's been accepted to one of the best universities in the country and will start this fall, with his dad's blessing.
their congregation had the summer convention this past weekend.

Your son is:
1) underage
2) unbaptized
Have you, as a parent, informed these "elders" that they have no legal (much less organizational) right to communicate with your son *and* that you, as legal custodian, will not permit it? Even if your JW husband fails to object to the meeting you are still equal in terms of legal guardianship. Use your legal authority to protect your child!

Is this the same Dennis Kucinich who "communes" with space aliens?
Praying to an invisible Jesus who was taken into the clouds and has yet to visibly return isn't communing with space aliens?

For me this film isn't about teen pregnancy, it's about immature people making major life decisions on their own.
I wouldn't want an immature person to watch it without a mature person on hand to balance the info.
