The Watch Tower Publishing Corporation and it's literature distribution division, combined called the "Organization", has manufactured the teaching of the clean image and the idea that they are visible and watched by "the world".
The reality of it all is the clean image is a delusion and most people I have asked about the Jehovah's Witnesses have them confused with the Mormons. Most have never met a Witness and know almost nothing about them, and don't care . . . like Alan wrote.
Ones that I know who do know Witnesses, view them as odd at best and pity them. Most I know who have had personal experienced with Witnesses are either current Witnesses or don't like them at all. Then there are those who see them as a project and are hatching up a plan to change them. Anyone I know, who was never a Witness and has studied the history, principles, and practices of the Witnesses, is amazed there any followers at all.
History will see them as a dangerous, destructive cult.

What exactly ARE the JWs known for?
by detective ini was reading a thread in which jh said:.
people knew we were jw's just by the way we dressed, but also by the way we talked.. .
now, not to come down on jh by any means, but this raised a question in my mind.

Hi Paula, Welcome! I am an adult child of Witness parents. I am 58 and live near Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA with the mother of my 4 sons. I quit unpaid religious book distribution and fundraising for the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation in 1974.
After being ostracized by agents of the Publishing Corporation, I disfellowshipped them all in 1995. None have applied for reinstatement.
I pity the Witness children and I am glad to see so many of them escaping. I just wish they did not have to be abused as a reward for being abused.
Exposing the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation must be much like trying to sink a ship filled with people I care about who don't want the ship to sink. It has not been a very rewarding work for me.
I look forward to reading more of your story. garyThe Way I See it http://www.freeminds.org/buss/buss.htm

JW's & Politics: Why Should They Be Involved?
by minimus inone of the most outstanding differences between jehovah's witnesses and other religions, is their view on politics.
jw's pride themselves in saying that since they are no part of the world, that being involved with politics is unscriptural.
witnesses are regularly reminded concerning their being neutral.

Hi Min, Politics is the art or practice or method of governing. To hear it claimed that the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation, the owners of the Jehovah's Witness franchise, is not involved in the practice of governing is laughable.
1. The government of the United States has three branches, the Executive, the Legislative, and the Judicial. The Watch Tower Publishing Corporation holds the record for the number of cases brought before the Judicial branch of the United States political system.
There is no religion in the United States that is more politically involved in politics than the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation.
2. Another way to be involved in politics at the legislative level is to lobby. I seem to remember an article about the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation lobbying every government official in Greece by voice and with a gift of a Proclaimers book. That was lobbying and lobbying is a political activity. What other religion in Greece lobbied government officials in such a large involved way while claiming political un-involvement?
3. In 1933 in Nazi Germany the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation lobbied the Nazi Government and lobbied Chancellor Adolph Hitler directly. Not only does the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation participate in government, but their record indicated compromise of the worst kind. This is well documented in the Year Book of 1934.
4. World government is represented by the United Nations. The Watch Tower Publishing Corporation has participated in the politics of the United Nations by their direct application and involvement as a NGO. Support by involvement is political activity, I'm sorry.
These are not behaviors of a non-political organization. These are behaviors of a very politically active business corporation. The political neutrality is a doctrine but not a reality. gary

WHERE DID ALL THAT WATER GO?
by MYOHNSEPH inas i recall, "the society" at one time taught the flood waters of noah's day came from an immense canopy of water, which formed sometime during creation and hovered above the earth until it all broke loose in the flood.
o.k., cool.
but does anyone know of an explanation of where it all went afterwards?

Keeping the Dubs Away
by Yerusalyim ini've come up with a sure fire way to keep the dubs away from my door.
this will work way better than the do not call list at the kh.
beings that my wife is a fallen away dub, and that the three step-kids were dubs, i probably have 10 different book bags laying around the house.

The best way I have ever found to keep them away is to invite them over and over and over . . . .

The Watch Tower Publishing Corporation and ALL their agents can kiss my butt. If they have anything important to me, I give it to them now. ANYONE who would shun and snub me because the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation or their agents tells them to, I don't want in my life AT ALL. I give them back to the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation now.
I am ashamed to ever have been associated with the Jehovah's Witness franchise owned by The Watch Tower Publishing Corporation, and I think the idea of a Governing Body who communicates with a ghost or a god is preposterous. I demand all who the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation controls, shun and snub me. I disfellowship them!
Any questions? -

Hi everybody, Thanks for the thread!
The Watch Tower Publishing Corporation wrote:Jehovah's Witnesses, however, while not forgetting the doing of good and the sharing of things with others, give priority to helping people spiritually....
Isn't it quite a coincidence that ALL the spiritual help comes by way of books written and published and sold to members by The Watch Tower Publishing Corporation? And all spiritual meetings have donation boxes and are sponsored by The Watch Tower Publishing Corporation?
What about the term "accurate knowledge"? Anybody aware of any accurate books published by The Watch Tower Publishing Corporation that were not replaced or revised? Aren't Witnesses really distributing inaccurate knowledge written and published by The Watch Tower Publishing Corporation?
Happy day everybody! gary -

Hi Rich,
I hope you do whatever you have to do to get clean and sober and have a good life. I understand some people do well in the context of a religious group. It gives them the support of family members as well as a degree of accountability, plus return to the group removes some of the pain of the dissonance caused by acting against one's core beliefs.
During a drug and alcohol crisis might not be the best time to confront my core beliefs and make a stand against my Witness relatives and friends. I hope you follow your instincts and see if that works for you. I hope your goal is total abstinence.
Some of us had to go into an inpatient treatment center and then go to some form of an aftercare support group to help us get into a long term stable period of abstinence. I guess a few people were able to get clean and sober just on desire and living a clean religious life. May you try and find success.
One problem I had with the Witness culture is there is a lot of open as well as closet prescription drug abuse as well as alcohol misuse among the members. I need accepting and sober, clean friends who allow me to talk out my unresolved issues that contributed to my consumption and use. If some of those unresolved issues are religious, abuse by parents or other JWs, or resentments involving group members, the Jehovah's Witnesses block open and honest discussion on many issues not in the best interest of the group leaders.
Some substance abuse issues require hundreds of hours of honest discussion and open inquiry not subject to censorship.
I hope you find a context where you can be comfortable as well as clean and sober. gary
