The whole universal sovereignity thing totally confused me when studying. I kept thinking Satan had a point and I felt really guilty for thinking it. I never dared say to my study conductors that I thought the tower of Babel incident was totally unfair, they said the people making it were really evil but I couldn't see where they got that from the bible.

My thoughts now: either the bible's not true and its all fairy tales like mincan says, or if the bible is true, then Satan is starting to look like the good guy in my opinion. Anyone else think this?

i met a witness in town that i know and she actually thought it was the law ie the police that cant do anything about child abuse unless there are 2 or 3 witnesses, how disturbing she is over 50 years old and that naive.

i grew up as a jehovah's witness.

my mother was uneducated and so we moved every 2-4 years as she tried to find stable enough work to support a child so ive attended many kingdom halls and have known many witnesses and many elders.

i've never gone back to the witness organization and never will.

You don't understand the hate. This is because you lack basic human understanding and compassion.

People on this board aren't getting together to hate, they're helping each other. What are you doing? You're not helping people, you're just having a go.

You say people whining makes you sick, but then you back-pedal and say oh unless someone has committed suicide, it's all right then. Who the hell are you to judge what it's ok to 'whine' about. You have a nice life, bully for you, you have no idea what other people have gone through.

ok...i see there are a fair number of posters here that have a "heavenly hope".... i can't help but wonder - what would it be like if a group of annointed (those that know in their hearts they will be resurrected to heaven) were to step up to the wbts, claim the authority the society vests in them as the true intermediaries between the great crowd and jesus, and try to give input to the gb?.

how could the gb posisbly say they are not part of the fds?

i suppose they would just paint everyone with the apostasy brush - "because i say they are and they disagree with me" - but wouldn't it be a marvel to see a group come forward to assert the authority and responsibility the gb says is vested in the fds?.

Funny, I was wondering that just the other day. I never really understood properly the whole Faithful & Discreet Slave thing. So if someone considers themselves as annointed, do they have authority, are they allowed in the GB? I dunno, it's late and I'm tired. I'll be interested in others opinions on this subject. :)

BlakeSeeley - I liked your answer to the topic, it was very nicely written, it's lovely that you've come away from the JWs and kept your Christian faith. I certainly don't want to bash people who have Christian faith, if anything I'm a little jealous, I'd have liked to have kept my faith. I was proud to be a Christian.

I'm sorry to hear that some people may find this thread offensive, because as a newbie and someone who's been lurking a long time I'm finding this thread inspirational. Truly.

Aaargh reading this thread has made me cry.
I'm an atheist, but not a very good one yet (so is atheist the right word?) cos theres this teeny tiny nagging doubt right down deep in the darkest corner of my subconscious.

BlueSapphire, what you're saying is just like what I'm thinking and I'm rofl at that pic from What-A-Coincidence, I totally agree and I don't believe in this stuff anymore. But then there's this little voice (well not a real voice, I'm not that crazy yet) that's saying HOW DARE YOU! Jesus died for you, Jesus suffered for you and you laugh at the ridiculousness of it.

What RSMHobbit said. It's like a knife in my brain. I used to cry at the thought of Jesus suffering.

I don't believe, it's illogical, it makes no sense, there's too many contradictions. So why do I feel so damn guilty for thinking this?

I don't believe in God.

I used to. I would look out of my window, at a beautiful sunset or starry sky and marvel at the wonderful beauty and supreme awesomeness of God's creation. I'd wonder too, how it's possible for ANYONE to look at that and not believe. It was all so brilliantly clear.

It was reading and studying the bible that started me on the path to atheism. I started thinking the horribly sacrilegious thought that I actually don't like the God I'm reading about. I didn't see Power, Wisdom, Justice and Love, I saw Favouritism, Jealous, Egotistic and Unfair.

I agree with what Eclipse said -God is either dead, or indifferent, or worse - malevolent.

i haven't seen this topic on here so i thought i'd.... hmmm, maybe it's because it's just too disturbing?

to me, the scene in saving private ryan - the two soldiers in the small upstairs room fighting hand to hand to the death (by stabbing).

i think that is the most disturbing thing i've seen on screen and there were plenty just in that film alone.

Maybe not the MOST disturbing scene I've ever seen, but the first one that came to my mind (it really makes me cringe) was that bit in 'The Fly' where he pulls his fingernails off. eeeeeeeeewwwwww. But thats really tame compared to a lot of films out now.

i have been coming to this site to read news and your stories for about a year now, but have never posted due to my mortal fear of somehow being found out... i have family in as most of you do, who are all very sincerely convinced that they are on the path of light.. i have never been happy with the beliefs, mainly the doublespeak on the status of women, the hypocrisy, the dramatisation of the smallest of matters, and the general guilt trip that was my life until i stumbled across some hard evidence that my suspicions about 'gods channel' were well founded.

unfortunately i am now addicted to turning over every piece of information i can find, there seems to be no end to the amount of $#*& below the surface.

i will probably remain in this state for awhile, hungrily devouring all the information that makes me feel validated for my stand against much of the mindless rubbish that has gone around me during my life as a jw.
