i have noticed that if someone has an opinion that does not go with the flow on this forum they often get insulted and shot down in flames.

i thought this was a discussion forum, but i am sadly dismayed to read so much intolerance of another's opinion.

if you appear to support the jw's in any way, even though people like me may disagree with you, you are entitled to your opinion.

The situation in the UK is very similar

I am surprised you did not get more posts,as this is a theme that seems to permeate here, and it is one of my pet hates also. I became a witness1974 forsook education and yes became a window cleaner - i hate it. I forsook a place at university to do Chemistry. I look now at my contemporaries and think what might have been. Those of my generation that did obtain degrees were in the minority.

I like the rest think that wtbs is very reprehensible. I am doing all I can to influence my children to get a degree the oldest has just graduated with a first.

Now to make brothers and my children think I ask what is the difference between 40 times 10 and 10 times 40? Answer a heck of a lot it first is the number of hours u have to work and the second is the hourly rate!!

ps I do graduate later when I left the borg - like many others here

i'm looking at the richmond and toronto apostafest pics and i'm longing for company.. it's been a really long time since i enjoyed good company and warm friendship.

even before we became inactive our friendships with witnesses had waned.. i really am very social.

I think this happens, particularly to gregarious people. I am both gregarious and private(usually to recharge). Since leaving I tried to find people I feel comforable with, and accept me . It can be difficult though as my wife is still in. This board does help though. Wishing you well. ps going to first fest Dec1 - a little uneasy.

i can remember about 2 years before i exited the org i had a terrible dilema which didn't really have anything to do with my doubts in relation to doctrine.. the problem was hearing over and over and over about the fact that being in the org was 'the best place to be'.

that the brothers were 'true friends'.

didn't they have a video out called 'ypa - how can i make real friends?'.

Hi Jovisys, Welcome hang around, there are lots of lovley people here and me.

I left about 10 years ago. My wife & daughter still go. I would never ever go back. Read a few threada here on almost any topic and you will see why.

I bet it is to late for this thread anyhow here what i think.

A very good friend if mine is a retired Met (London) Police Firearms Officer serving many years int he Diplomatic Protection Group. The police have very clear and published guidelines on shooting people. usually they aim for the largest bit, the torso to stop the person. In this bit are many vital organs and arteries, therefore often people die when shot at. In exceptional circumstances they may shoot at the head/neck area, because as he puts it the central nervous system is destroyed thereby stopping a bomber potentially detonating a bomb.; unlike shots to the torso where this may happen.

What is also to be born in mind are two things.

1 The UK was under a high state of alert due to recent bombings

2 Our Police are by and large unarmed which is totally unlike any other Police force in the world that I know of .

The shooting of this Guy was a terrible terrible mistake but no more. He did fit certain profiles so it was understandable.

most dubs have the cd for research at most and that stops at 1950. i they wanted to study the foundation of jw on something they would be limited to the proclaimers book and that only gives little snippets of the past.

Thanks for you reply which is pretty much my take. The high levels of deceipt and artifice in both is sad and amazing. What is interesting though is the devices that the members use to overcome thier problems within the group, particularly the thinking ones.

What also suprises me that having now left how much freer I feel. I even vote. wow what a sin!

Btw I did not advocate reading the book bi Jung Chang it is a long and hard read.

Another shorter book is by Ed Hussain - The Islamist. Along similar lines on radical Islam.
