i so loved the post of the kitten the other day.

i checked-out this week and drank three bottles of gin, even though i stopped in toto four months ago, my wife is out of town.

please do not post anything about counseling here as i have tried that and am on lots of meds.

what kind of unusual sacrifices did you make as a jdub?

i knew a sister who avoided nail polish because a householder didn't like it.

she wanted to please the lady.

I did not go to college until later because we weren't supposed to... went to beauty school instead which was a waste of time and $... was not able to take self-defense lessons because the elders said it was wrong to know how to kill someone. - ??!! You can kill someone with your car, so you shouldn't drive?! Or ever use a knife?

The sisters counselled me when I got my ears double pierced. They said I had to be careful what I did because the young girls looked up to be - such BS!!!!

it was expected of me to get baptized and at 9 i was.

I was 17, but my friends were all baptized at a younger age. They kept giving talks on why wait to be baptized... like some teenagers were putting it off so they could do bad stuff and not be DF... made me feel guilty so I went for it. My parents never pressured me, though.

News from the Circuit Assembly

it has been our local circuit's two day assembly this weekend.

it takes place at bristol assembly hall.

from what i recall seating capacity is about 1200. .

When Elders Take Congregation Funds

health care/vehicle/ etc..... usaully there is no great discussion involved, the service department sets a quota and the elders' rubber stamp it.

into a "resolution" for the general congregation which they present at the service meeting.

I remember one congregation we were in, the elders wanted to buy the property behind the KH to renovate the house to rent it out for extra $ and to increase the size of the parking lot. That was several years ago and I remember my dad was so angry because the house needed to be torn down it was in such bad shape, and the parking lot did not increase in size by much, maybe 15 spaces or so, I don't remember exactly. However, the point was that the elders had ALREADY PURCHASED THE LAND before they brought it up to the congregation, and then they asked for promisary notes from the publishers saying how much they could contribute PER MONTH for the cost. Of course, the A$$ kissers instantly backed the motion... my parents were so angry with what the elders did in that congregation that they switched to another one... like it was any better, but anyway. My parents should have seen that the problem was not with the congregation but with the religion/cult.

Oh, and they did rent out the house but it was to a poor family who didn't always pay the rent and they were not evicted.

what were your excuses for not going to the meetings?.

ours were the usual ones, boredom, illness or weather, yepp even the tiny snow flurries were a good excuse to stay home.

I made an honest effort to go to the meetings... it was difficult to get to all of them, though, with a small child and both of us working, so I guess I faded by circumstance. Then, when I later tried to go back, I was looked down upon, and it really made me angry because I had lived my whole life for that religion up until that point. I just left and never went back.
