I remember this teaching well, and I was born in 1981. But I didn't always pay attention during the meetings, therefore I completely missed this when it changed in 1995.

I took the '1914 Generation' prophecy seriously, did you? Do you even remember it?!
by nicolaou ini was born in 1964, 50 years after 1914. even in my teens i was doing the sums.
i had a worse case scenario figured out - if the 1914 generation could apply to babies and even if they lived to be a 120, i would still only be about 70 years old after they'd all died!
i figured i was part of the first wave of 'jehovah's people' that really would live to see the new order - guaranteed!!

We predicted World War I - How would you answer?

the user civicsi00 made the following post, which is very relevant to the subject of this thread:
Hey bud, thanks for the credit!
I would definitely ask a Witness for PROOF that Russell predicted the World War. The Watchtower doesn't equip its followers to refute these kinds of things, so unfortunately you're not going to get a good answer. You may even be viewed as an opposer, instead of an inquisitive person. What's even more damaging is the fact that Russell changed the date for Armaggedon to 1915. I don't know if anyone here can provide any quotes on this, but that would also be invaluable, along with what JWFacts has already posted above.
Unfortunately, trying to get a Witness to think for him/herself can be likened to trying to win a tennis match against a brick wall.
I read a scripture the other day that reminds me to be patient when trying to "wake up" a Witness. It's from 2 Timothy 2:25, 26:
"Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will." (NIV) (emphasis mine)

Twenty years to figure it out?
by purplesofa inmyabe the gb knew the right answer sooner than twenty years, but it was not until 20 years did they correct it.. how many other things have been figured out that they are silent about?.
maybe reniaa will read this!.
in the 1951 watchtower(w51 12/15 p. 763), a witness wrote in and asked: how can.

Yes, there are plenty of things that are still wrong, doctrinally speaking. Of course, some will say it all depends on your "interpretation" of the Bible. But I would venture to say that "most" Christians agree on at least several things, i.e. the bodily resurrection of Christ, saved by faith and not by works, Jesus is Deity, etc.
I don't think the GB is ever going to change. Some of their unique (and incorrect) doctrines are what keeps them "separate from the world". The biggest problem they face is admitting that they have been wrong for the past 130 years, without causing a split.

Also visit Barbara Anderson's site, www.watchtowerdocuments.com, scroll down until you find the PDF entitled 1940_Peddlers_of_Paradise. Whoever wrote the article for American Life was able to tell that Rutherford had indeed changed Russell's predictions about 1914. On page 4, on the right side of the page, it states:
"Witnesses have twisted his [Russell] prophecy and say he foresaw the World War."

Memorial "observers" - meditate on this before rejecting the emblems!
by yadda yadda 2 indo you have gods spirit?.
...we, in turn, might receive the adoption as sons.
now because you are sons, god has sent forth the spirit of his son into our hearts and it cries out: abba, father!

It's so simple, isn't it? Come to Jesus for life...
Yet JW's just refuse to see it. It's tragic, really.

Any consequences for not attending the Memorial?
by sacolton infor active jws, what would happen if they missed the memorial?
guilt-trip from the elders?
why isn't it a disfellowshipping offense since it is stressed to be of vital importance to attend?.

This year will mark the first time I will not be going. We have not been invited, or even called by the elders. We haven't been hounded by the elders all this year, but I suspect in their smug mind that we will cave and at least come to the Memorial, even though we no longer attend the meetings.
I suspect a shepherding call will be in order afterwards, but I say bring it on.
I might even use that scripture that PasswordProtected pointed out.

WILL THERE EVER BE A JW REVOLUTION?
by african GB Member inis there a possibility for jw's turning against the gb, perhaps by boycotting the "meetings" and fs?.
in my opinion, i think we could be heading for something to that "effect"..... i have heard several "brothers" in my cong talking about the "need" to adapt to the ever changing world..... .
are they gonna go mainstream and avoid a possible revolt?.

I keep wondering the same thing myself lately.
With the May 2007 QFR releasing the bonds on who can be "anointed", I really feel there's going to be an increase in the number of partakers year after year.
And I know several Witnesses right now who understand that the "anointed" are the ones who take the lead for JW's. We all know the reality.
But with the upcoming June 15 WT, the GB is taking tighter control to make sure all JW's know who's in charge. This may cause some dissension among the younger "anointed" members, feeling left out and under-appreciated. They're not going to have any more say-so than members of the Great Crowd (they never did, but now it's in print).
If there were a revolution, I don't know where it could lead. Would JW's, on their own, examine the Bible without Watchtower-colored glasses? Probably not. They don't do so now, and unless they want to, they probably won't.
It would be very interesting to watch, though. Good enough to sit back and watch the show with some popcorn!

He wasn't disfellowshipped because Jehovah hadn't instituted this practice until the 1950's. Wayyy after he was dead...
