YKnot nailed it. And when I realized this "truth", I knew THEN that I was in a completely false religion.
It's hard to get a JW to simply state this. They don't even realize it's their raison d'etre (did I spell that right?).
i mean can someone, preferably an active jw, explain in 5 sentences or less what that really means?.
i ask because of the long post that "20571..." made on another thread about how "the truth" is better than this, that and the other thing.. what does it really mean?.

i was wondering if i'm remembering a change correctly, especially since it happened long after i stopped attending meetings.. i seem to remember that the society began to change its position on the anointed holding top level posts within the org because they were running out of anointed ones.
apparently, anointed members were being used with higher level positions, like running committees and all that, but the society announced somewhere that they would start using other people in some of those positions too.
does that ring a bell with anyone?.
Mad Sweeney, I don't think it matters too much how long ago they started partaking. If you're a hardline, "company man", willing to maintain the status quo, then you probably qualify to be a GB member. They sure don't seem to be in a hurry to replace the ones that are gone, though.
1983 yearbook p11.. the puerto rico branch tells about an interested person who was studying with a special pioneer but whose husband showed no desire to do so.
one day his five-year-old daughter said, "daddy, i want to grow up so i can be baptized.
" later she said, "daddy, please study the bible with jehovah's witnesses so that you will not be destroyed and then you can be with us in paradise.
Ah, yes. Isn't that the message that Jesus preached? From book of Matthew, chapter 19, verse 14: "Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." [Then Jesus proceeded to scare the hell out of them by telling them to convince their parents to become Jehovah's Witnesses or else their parents wouldn't be with them in Paradise. The children did as they were told and Jesus was somewhat pleased. He would later also teach them to get baptized as soon as possible otherwise they won't have a chance in hell of surviving the destruction of Jerusalem which was due to occur in their generation.]."
reading the title of this thread, you may believe that perhaps there is one thing that i am discontent with in being an ex-jehovah's witness; and possibly this might mean that i would return to the watchtower.. well, it's not one of those threads.
i am quite happy and content since leaving.
i don't regret it one bit.. my only regret with being an ex-jehovah's witness is that i will never be able to confront the people behind the curtain.. i would have loved to have met fred franz... only to be able to confront him about all his false prophecies.. i would have loved to have met rutherfraud... only to be able to tell him that he wasn't just "being an ass" for the whole 1925 thing.

My ONLY regret with being an ex-jehovah's witness is that I will NEVER be able to CONFRONT the people behind the curtain.
I would have loved to have met Fred Franz... only to be able to confront him about all his false prophecies.
I would have loved to have met Rutherfraud... only to be able to tell him that he wasn't just "being an ass" for the whole 1925 thing. I would have told him that he never stopped "being an ass".
I would have loved to have met Russell... only to be able to tell him that 1914 DID NOT come true as he predicted and that he should dismantle everything he built.
I would still love to meet the current GB members. Why do they have to hide in their Ivory Tower? Is it because they are not men? To me they're not. They're nothing. They can't even stand up and hold a worldwide discussion with ex-members. Instead they have to belittle them from behind their little curtain up in Watchtowerland, NY.
There's something satisfying about being able to confront people. I am usually a timid and quiet person, but I would have plenty of words for the people listed above.
Thank you for listening.
it's one of those , aha!, moments that hits you right after you leave the kh.
if jehovah picked the wt society back in 1919 as his one true christian congregation and then asigned them and only the international bible students the big work of preaching the king and kingdom, at those famous,.
,uh-hum, everyone who heard the life saving message from rutherford's gang was going to be dead in a few years- everyone was going to the grave, not straight to the new system of things.
Just for the sake of clarity, I have another question for djeggnog:
Which version of the good news are you talking about? The version that the apostles preached ("of a coming kingdom") or the version that Rutherford introduced in 1929 (of a "kingdom established in 1914")? If the latter, then where in the Bible is this version of the good news mentioned? If the former, then why don't JW's preach this message today?
3. why has god allowed suffering?.
for a time, jehovah has tolerated rebellion.
to show that no.
For a time, Jehovah has tolerated rebellion against his sovereignty. Why? To show that no effort to rule without him benefits people. (Jeremiah 10:23)
OHHHHH.... That's it? That's the BIG issue Jehovah has with mankind? FUNNY how the Bible NOWHERE mentions this specific issue ANYWHERE... and oddly enough the Watchtower can't pull any better scriptures out of its butt to prove it either.
Nice.
After 6,000 years of human history, the issue has been settled.
Now that the issue is "settled"... THEN WHY ARE WE STILL HERE???????? Oh wait, the "spiritual paradise" has arrived and all JW's are currently experiencing it. Right...
this past weekend a quote from the wt study caught my eye.
it can be found on paragraph 14 of the article.. "however, worsening world conditions have caused many to respond when shown that alienation fromgod is at the root of human evil and suffering.".
i'm just focusing on the first par that says the world is getting worse.
Ironically, the WT in its early days taught that all of the inventions that have made life easier for us were a SIGN that the 1000 year reign was NEAR.
2011 yearbook, singing praise to jehovah, p.17-21:.
singing songs of praise to jehovah is an integral part of our worship.
at the 2009 conventions, therefore, god's servants were overjoyed when they were told of a new songbook, sing to jehovah.
I kid you not.. I recently attended a KH in which no one knew me so I was able to pretend I had never been a JW. And at the end when I'm talking to some of these people, they told me they DO NOT like the new song book. I found it odd, yet satisfying, that they were very willing to openly admit the book sucks to a complete stranger like me.
2011 yearbook - "tracing all things with accuracy", p.9-13.
jesus said that the faithful slave would be discreet in giving the domestics "their food at the proper time.
" christ thus indicated that those who dispense this "food" would be conscientious, prudent, and discerning in providing spiritual food for the household of faith.-matt.
Christ thus indicated that those who dispense this "food" would be conscientious, prudent, and discerning in providing spiritual food for the household of faith.-Matt. 24:45-47.
Considering the words "prudent", "conscientious", and "discerning" appear nowhere within Matt 24:45-47, it was NOT prudent NOR conscientious of them to say that this is what Christ meant when speaking about the faithful slave.
Even Bible writers, who were directed by holy spirit, made sure that they recorded information that was thoroughly researched and accurate.
Of course, it all makes sense now. When Jesus spoke about "this generation", his disciples at the time comprehended it to mean one thing. A few years later, Paul shed further light and re-defined it again. By the time the book of Revelation was written, John had received "new light" and he further changed the meaning again and whatever Jesus actually meant was considered "old light" by then, and all because the Bible writers thoroughly researched the topic.
Additionally, our researchers make use of nearby public and academic libraries.

(( hardcopy link of boe ltr pdf : http://www.sendspace.com/file/1gncdo ))... in my best 'theocratic' voice trying to mimic a service meeting conductor (giggles) ..."if you have acrobat you can insert this behind the other boes in the ks10 pdf, or if not consider downloading and keeping it in the same file as your ks10 for future need to know..... i chose to 'highlight' what i thought might be of interest to the forum in the below transcript but of course it is not limited!.
to all bodies of elders.
re: letters of introduction.
Glad to be out of this crazy CULT!! The level of control is freakin' bizarre. I can't even fathom being an elder and having to put up with all this BS.
"notorious wrongdoing" WTF??
