Yes i agree. Back when they first started they were most likely viewed as extremists and attracted alot of attention

Now in the 21st Century, i see a tiring and struggling organization that is desperately trying to keep people in the religion by fear and family emotional blackmail. Logic says something is going to give......BIG TIME !

Lengthening the "Conclusion of this system of things."

more about me at another time.. has anyone noticed that the wts has once again changed the meaning of "generation" in the newest watchtower (feb. 15, '08 issue)?

they are connecting it in a weird way to the brothers of joseph.

Disgraceful for a woman to speak?

if you are going to follow the bible like the jw's claim, then at least follow all of it !.

1 cor 14:34,35 " let the women keep silent in the congregations, for it is not permitted for them to speak, but let them be in subjection, even as the law says.

if, then, they want to learn something, let them question their own husbands at home, for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in a congregation.".

O.k. If you are going to follow the Bible like the JW's claim, then at least follow all of it !

I'm sure this has been discussed before.

Imagine if the JW's strictly applied this one. I wonder how much increase they would achieve ? When i was "in", this scripture was always glossed over or sugar-coated.

This is an ancient view of woman and disgusting to me. Yes i'm an aussie man and we love our woman and they are equal to us if not - a hell of alot smarter than us.

Taking the kids to watch fireworks forbidden

we had our meeting on the last day of the year 2006. the previous 5 yrs we had gone to the 9pm fireworks display in our local area with other witness familys.

this was so our children could enjoy the display and the family atmosphere.

( they also had rides and a concert for the kids).. well, back to the meeting.

Well, back to the meeting. The PO got up before the final song and said " We want you Brothers to remember what night this is. The World is out there celebrating and partying. We don't want to get caught up in this......etc etc" I cannot remember word for word. But it was enough for my wife and her friends to feel guilty about going out to see the fireworks. They said they couldn't go because their Conscience would'nt let them.

My boy was 6 and suddenly he was'nt going with his friends at all. He looked so dissappointed.

I was "boiling inside". I said to my wife " Can't you think for yourself? Use your own mind" Etc

If that brother had'nt said that, we all would have went as a family. Instead i took my son and met up with one of the other fathers who brought his children and we had a nice night.

It would have been good to have our familys with us though.

But i guess having Fun is wrong. The New System would be a fun place to be would'nt it!

JW's and Internet. Wikipedia?

jh posted a thread about how wikipedia clearly shows how goofy the doctrine of jw's has been in changing over the years.

so it makes me wonder could wikipedia be the driving force in the no "independent" study?

i know that my whole family uses wikipedia often and use it as a respected source when researching things.

Isn't the internet such a snare for the witnesses? After-all it has the word "NET" in it. And is known as "THE WEB". We were warned about this in OZ about 3 yrs ago at an assembly.

I agree with you. My first research was googling "Jehovah's Witnesses" and reading what the encyclopedia had to say. It presented the Facts without prejudice - just the facts. I read it a few times and it started the ball rolling for me. It seemed ridiculous how doctrine had changed over the years. It's either The Truth or it isn'nt. No middle ground on this one. It cannot be half right.

Then i jumped on this sight and have looked at "Things" differently ever since.

We live in the 21st Century and i'm glad we have so much information available to us. The only thing stopping us is a Dinosaur organisation telling us WHAT and HOW to think.
