XOCO, I just wanted to say you'll be alright. I know that someone who cares so much about their mothers' feelings, thinks through things carefully. You will be guided to the right path. You will find your strength and your way. Make sure that you have some support, you'd be surprised how much you can miss the sense of community. Even though the friendships may be superficial or people may not really be interested enough to REALLY get to know you. I have learned that this is typical in cults or cultlike organizations. And you have been around it for awhile so you have to build yourself up. Keep your head up, baby!

To those still "active", what makes you keep going to meetings?
by Cindi_67 ini've been reading a lot of posts and a lot of you here on the board, are "active" members, attend all meetings and conventions, go out in field service, even help with quick builds.
i don't want this to sound like i am disrespecting anybody, but what makes you lead a double life?
doesn't anybody at the hall notice your lack of interest?

One Anniversary and a Funneral
by mrsjones5 indecember 5th was my fifteenth wedding anniversary but we didn't celebrate on that day because my bil's funneral was the same day.
i didn't make a fuss because of he was my bil.
my mil's family said that they were going to take us out to dinner to celebrate our anniversary but that didn't happen and i didn't really care to do it that day.

How many Christmas yard ornaments is too many I ask? (New Pictures)
by erynw inthere is a house in my neighborhood that has to hold the record for christmas decorations in their yard.
the neighborhood i live in has one road in and out so we can't avoid this eyesore.. i swear, they have every inflatable, plastic, lit up, wire formed, animated yard decoration that has ever been manufactured.
it looks like k-mart threw up in their yard.. they have enough lights on the house, bushes, trees, eaves, roof, fence to signal the mothership into a safe landing from any galaxy in the universe.

I love the lights and my two sons go nuts over the decorations. I always enjoyed seeing the neighborhood lit up but held back my comments. Seeing my kids enjoy it is nice. My husband, who was never a JW, thinks I'm like a kid too. I grew up without the holidays. Even when my other family members invited us over or sent gifts, I never got to visit them. So now I'm excited over everything just like my young sons. But some decorations look better than others. Either way it helps me get through the dark winter without feeling depressed.

Getting married too young

Yeah, this is worldwide. I've noticed teenagers marrying here in the US for awhile. I was planning to get married when I was 19. Some things changed and I ended up dating other people. Eventually, I married at 27. Very happy to have found him. (Five years and two toddlers later)We both felt like there was a reason why we met. He has helped carry me through some difficult times. Of course, he wasn't readily accepted by my JW family. Some even tried to see if they could convert him. Let me tell ya, that was funny!

I read your comments. So true. And I noticed that one friend couldn't handle what you said. Well, maybe she's not ready to face it. Never underestimate the power of denial. I have a couple of family members that were elders and I considered them loving and trustworthy. Never heard anything contrary about them. My father, may he rest in peace, was great. Always accepted and encouraged me but I did realize he was special. I KNEW there were shady characters around. And I also realized, in my teens, that no one really wanted to talk about it. I feel that your comments were not too critical, just stated what most of us know to be true...

I am no longer, but for a long time I kept active for a sense of community. I did not have a support system set up yet and didn't know what to do with myself. This was all I had known since I was a baby! I married a man that was not a JW and I do believe I was drawn to him for a reason. He has been my main support through the past few years. Now I am comfortable researching and reading materials to find out what I believe. I am, for the first time in my life, a spiritual person. Before I just went with the flow to avoid trouble from parents and congregation. Know what I mean?

Is There Something Specific That U Regret Not Doing Because You Were A JW?
by minimus indid you want to belong to a social club but couldn't because it was "worldly" and witnesses don't get involved with the world?.
did you not go to college simply because witnesses say it's bad?.
did you deprive your kids of things because you were a "good jw"?.

I didn't go to college. I didn't pursue opportunities on my job even though I was sought after. I put time and money into activities that I was taught from childhood would be approved by Jehovah. If you want to do those things, fine. Some people enjoy giving of themselves in this way. But I needed to be doing more with my life. My husband, who was never a JW, took advantage of many opportunities in his life. He has a great sense of fulfillment and satisfaction watching our kids grow. I, on the other hand, am always looking for something and trying something new.

My mom asked me if I wanted a copy from her. No, thanks. She feels I am lost and blames it on my nonbelieving husband. I was told that the different magazines are to keep the public from feeling confused by "theocratic phrases" and counsel meant for those inside the congregation.
