I agree with WTWizard. Same as always. A relative invited my husband to the convention during the summer. To my surprise he accepted and went. Afterwards he said now I see why you are so messed up in the head. I thought, "gee, thanks..." But he explained that he had never been to a religious event that was so full of you should this and you shouldn't that. He asked, "when does the worship actually start?" Apparently after you leave their religion.

New Release - 2007 District Convention - Follow The Christ
by Princess Daisy Boo inlucky me, oh lucky me - my mom popped by on sunday pm on their way home from the district convention to give me a copy of the new release... and then phoned me today and asked me if i had started reading it and when will i start ( note to self - i need to take a stand soon and make my intentions of never ever going back well and truly clear - 12 years of non attendance of meetings does not seem to have given mom a clue!!!).
so has anyone read it - it there anything totally pukeworthy that i have got to read before i chuck it in my rubbish bin - b'coz i didn't read the literature when i was in da troof - i am not about to start now...!.

Even now I still suffer from Demon-phobia at night anyone else?? {Bump??}
by Witness 007 inthings that go bump in the night still force me to get out of bed and check them out even though at 35 i know it's just the house rafters shifting, temperature changes etc...sometimes i wake up to see strange shapes in my room...switch on the light and it's my jacket.
i think the witnesses have conditioned me to believe in demons on a sub-conscious level.
i know they are not real...but i still check.

Well, let me say that you don't have to feel embarrassed. And you might want to check. I have those mommy ears now and I always hear stuff my husband doesn't. But it has been a good thing because I woke him up to discover someone trying to break in once!

Anyone else feel like an emotional mutant at this time of year?
by tall penguin ini've been attempting to infiltrate my friend's christmas traditions in an attempt to understand and appreciate the holiday.
i only had christmas until i was 5 when my mom converted to jw.
before that, christmas was really big in our house.

I started out like that every winter for the past three years but this year is different. I feel good and am celebrating how I want to. My husband has a lot to do with that. He is Kenyan and lived there until approximately ten years ago. His family celebrated Christmas, like many cultures seem to do these days. For him it was about the family, friends, and food. (they didn't go a gift exchange) So he kept telling me to make it something I wanted to remember. If I wanted decorations and all the hooplah (that's a word, right) so be it! If not, he was cool with that too. So at first I didn't know but I experimented. I felt like a kid trying to grow up in a few months. Trying to figure out who I was and what I wanted to be "when I grew up". I guess some things need time. Its a healing process too.

To those still "active", what makes you keep going to meetings?
by Cindi_67 ini've been reading a lot of posts and a lot of you here on the board, are "active" members, attend all meetings and conventions, go out in field service, even help with quick builds.
i don't want this to sound like i am disrespecting anybody, but what makes you lead a double life?
doesn't anybody at the hall notice your lack of interest?

I can tell, you're not a hater, XOCO. I sense that. I understand how you feel and it's funny how I see things now. I think of all the times that "worldly" family or my husband tried to point out things to me. I did see their argument but I wasn't ready to leave. Everyone does things in their own time. At least here, we have one another's support.

The Spirit World - where's the middle ground?

after a post yesterday about dead loved ones returning in spirit form i started to think, from an ex jw standpoint, when it comes to the spirit world where is the middle ground?
perhaps some ex jw's don't believe in a spirit world anymore, perhaps some still do.

I don't know about middle ground. But I have noticed from looking into other people's cultures and beliefs that everyone seems to hold some belief in spirits. Most people probably have an extensive blend of beliefs based upon personal experiences and what they were taught. My husband, for example, is from an East African country and was taught tribal and Christian beliefs. So he believes that spirits exist and abound but not always interacting with us. He wasn't afraid to embrace whatever practices or rituals other family members had in that regard either. I, on the other hand, was raised as a JW. My family taught me to be afraid of anything mystical and yet something inside of me couldn't buy into it. Was I more of a spiritual being than they? (not the "spiritual" they were used to) I don't know but I am learning a lot and getting attuned to my own set of beliefs. And I agree, WTWizard, many things are explained scientifically.

by jaguarbass ini get this daily email from a bible thumping friend of mine this was part of todays topic.. sometimes we wonder, "why do we have to go through these trials & breakings, lord?
" well, there are some things the lord can't reveal to you in advance because you're not yet ready.
he's got to let you go through some testings without your even knowing what the future holds, to see if you can take it, to see how loyal you are, to see how strong you are, to see how faithful you are, to see if you will be willing to do whatever he asks!

And this, among other things, is why I have examined a variety of beliefs. Some, like myself, believe that bad and good things occur in the natural ebb and flow of life. Whether one believes in a personal god or higher power, there is something to be said for nature. If it makes someone feel better to think of it as a test, so be it. You know a lot of people hate for something to go UNEXPLAINED. Know what I mean?

have any of u guys done telemarketing witnessing b4?
by XOCO ini've just started to come up with this random topic in my head and some of good/bad experiences with telephone witnessing.
ive done it b4 but i was so uncomfortable calling ppl and telling them about the bible and stuff.
sometimes the person on the other end of the line would ask me how i got that number ?or how do u know my name?

No. But I did sit in with a group that was doing it and I excused myself and went to the lady's room. Terrible, I know. But I laugh to think that I was willing to sit in knowing I would never get on the phone.
