Did being a JW make you overly judgemental?
by Frequent_Fader_Miles inlooking back, being a jw meant constantly analyzing and categorizing others.
on field service, persons were either "sheeplike" or "goatlike".
in the congregation it went even further.

YES, about the JW's. The people who weren't "spiritual" or deemed "bad association" were sometimes true friends to me. I couldn't understand how other people felt comfortable deciding who is what. I hated that!

My family was loved and respected, I was misunderstood. Meaning I never wanted anyone to get that close to me because I knew they were phoney. I pioneered and commented and blah, blah, blah. But my true feelings I only expressed to worldly and/or df'd relatives. I was before the elders several times for reported wrongdoing. Can you believe it? So I knew for a long time that I didn't agree with all the teachings. Guilt and fear had a hold on me for awhile.

I and a few others I know had tattoos and some piercings while we were still in. I'm sure it happens more than some JW's think.

And...The Race Is On
by WTWizard inwe know that the last week of december is always the one that they want people to make sure to be at the kingdumb hell.
because that is the week where, at the circus meeting, they announce the venue of the grand boasting session for the summer.. every year, they have a sealed envelope containing those details in a letter, with explicit instructions to not read it until that circus meeting.
this year, it will be the week of december 31, probably putting it either january 1 (crappy new year for them) or january 3. on that day, they have instructions that they should attend the circus meeting for sure.

Not only am I happier now that I don't have to attend but my kids are saved from torture. Kids can't handle that, its way too much. They are lucky that they won't have to suffer through it for years like their mama. WTWizard, I love how you write. Its right on point with humor throughout..

Is Bigotry A Mental Illness?
by writetoknow inwith so much hatred in society on all levels against most groups from religion to politics - is this a sign that society has an mental illness or something else?.

I don't think its an illness. Its a learned behavior or way of thinking. That's just my opinion. As far as the case studies who experienced "panic and anxiety upon benign contact with persons of a racial or ethnic group", I don't know. Maybe they should have turned the lights off or blindfolded them. Actually, I've had some really memorable "benign contact" with individuals of another racial or ethnc group.

I know what you're talking about. I used to notice it even while I was active. Why can't people think of something to say besides offering literature and recounting points from a talk. Its the way we were trained. And some people are already socially challenged before they join the JWs, imagine what number they do on you afterwards. My father died four years ago. Not only did people not know what to say, some just stated their beliefs like I was somebody at the door in service. Hello? I already know what you believe. Then, when I started talking about him and crying they were uncomfortable. To my surprise, I found out a few days later that I was pregnant. I told someone that I felt sad because my father was going to miss seeing me have my first child. They quoted some scriptures about the resurrection and I thought about how my non-JW family must have felt. This is what happened to them everytime they lost a witness relative in death. They'd come to the hall and hear a lot of general info. No personal feeling and sympathy, just talking about beliefs.

Our CO says..."women in the workplace...a Satanic plot!"
by sir82 inour co came galloping into town this week.
in his tuesday talk, these were his comments (not word for word, but more or less):.
"i imagine one of the biggest problems in your territory is not-at-homes.

It is ashame you think back to all of the crazy things people told us. And you are so right, Dinah, everything is blamed on Satan. My husband has laughed so many times when I've told him what I heard people blame on Satan. From tire blowouts to misplaced pocketbooks...

Ex-JW - How Many Think About Gangsters
by BBOARD ini know this may sound strange to some but lately, virtually every week has gone by with me daydreaming myself as a gangster/gangsta.
during conversations with my non-jw associates it is strikingly clear that i really, really know more about the yakuza, cosa nostra, bloods, crips, etc.
i even think i am one of the few that knows (to the best of my knowladge) about the full story to the foudning of the crips and bloods.

BBOARD, please keep yourself in school and push yourself to achieve greater things. Unfortunately for most of us raised as a JW, our sense of self-esteem and confidence was stripped down at the meetings. I think that you will find yourself thinking a lot better when you leave. And this doesn't mean you won't love and respect your family who is still in. I personally wanted to respond because people of color lose a lot of their men to violence. Don't want to see that happen to anymore of our young men. Keep doin what you're doin baby..
