Oompa update

i don't post much, so most of you don't know me.

i live in nc near oompa, and he has become a good friend with my wife and i over the last few years.. so as an update, my wife visited oompa today!

he's recovering, but has a long recovery to go.

I don't post much, so most of you don't know me. I live in NC near Oompa, and he has become a good friend with my wife and I over the last few years.

So as an update, my wife visited Oompa today! He's recovering, but has a long recovery to go. He has many broken bones, and needs many more surgeries. He will recover, but it will take time.

I know he will appreciate any reaching out any of you do. He needs to know people care for him and wish him the very best.

I'll post more as I get more updates.

Did born-in's have the capacity to "test their faith"?

2 corinthians 13: 5a - 5 examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves.. this verse just comes at me like a locomotive.. to examine something is to truly use my mental capacities and to look at something objectively.. how do i accomplish this, even now?.

i was raised in an organization that controlled my information and used fear of rejection as well as my need for approval to "inculcate" the "truth" into me.. by that right, i (and all born-ins) do not have the ability to examine our faith (as a jw).. there will always be an artificial pull either for or against the society (whether we are aware of it or not).. free will has been comprimised; therefore our "faith to our creator" has been tainted and cannot be judged as worthy or unworthy.. of course many of us have regained our ability to discern and look at things objectively.. but i believe that we will never be able to truly look at the watchtower organization without a slant.. not to say the conclusions we come to regards to the organization are not valid (because they are and have been validated).

my point is that the organization has no right to judge and ostracize any born-in for leaving and even for speaking out.. they broke us, and now they are demonizing us for the things we did in that broken state.

This reminds me when a born-in friend approached me about my questioning the faith. He told me he also had issues, and also did research of the faith using Watchtower literature. He proved his faith again, and ever since has been strong.

Do they have the capacity, yes, but do they have the chance to test their faith before baptism, NO!

I WAS CAUGHT emailing a pdf copy of the New Elders Book

i sent a .pdf to a few friends and one of them betrayed me and forward it to a elder i know, along with the emails of the recipients.

i cant believe i was so naive to think that i can trust someone..stupid.

i have not talked to the "benedict arnold" yet, but hopefully soon.

I doubt you have any worries about copyright/legal issues...

BUT apostacy, that's another story. If you don't want to get DF'd, or get more JC's investigating apostacy, in my opinion you have to play dumb. You were curious how the org ran. Since it's the truth, this is just info that helps us be better sheep. I don't know, but they will look for your reaction, and your intent, and if you appear innocent and sorry for distributing it, you will have a better chance of it dropping.

I like what stuckinamovement says... you got it, and thought it was just another distribution...

Just look at how they changed these lyrics in the new song book

this is disgusting!!!

we've all heard that the new song book is really, really, really bad......but i didn't see many examples cited of just how they changed some of the wording.

oh sure, we all know by now how incredibly hard it is to sing along with the garbage they wrote, tempo, lack of beat, odd rythm, timing, etc, etc.

Singing about them isn't blatent worship, but it's damn close.

I say on the contrary. I have heard may times in meetings that giving great attention and time to something is a form of idolatry or worship. This was in the case of sports. You spend so much time with watching and keeping up with sports, you are in affect worshipping the teams. I say the same here. You talk SO much about the FDS, every article, every prayer, and now even more songs, it IS worship of the FDS.

what was it that first got you thinking that the society was wrong in how they interpret the bible?.

for me personally, it was the way they always downgrade jesus to be an angel and are promoting the governing body in his place.. also when the society taught that jesus was abaddon/apollyon the fallen angel in revelation..

To me it was the worship of the GB. Every article, talk, prayer, etc would mention the GB to the point where I considered it worship. Felt so wrong.

Mine was the meeting in 2008 where they announced the book study change on a Sunday. I only went to verify what I've read on JWD for months ahead of time. Never been since.

So about 2 1/2 years now!

Weird JW response to death?

so i just learned on another thread that there are adults who have never been to a funeral, not that that's a bad thing.

makes me wonder because i got dragged to one at 6, and i still remember how i felt, what song we sang- and who i was sitting next to (an adult, not my mother for some reason) who helped me to stand up to sing the song because i was so distraught.

is it a jw thing to make kids go to funerals?.

My wife had a friend who was DF'd at the time. He died in a motorcycle accident. Elder's wife said "Well at least he was already dead in Jehovah's eyes". So cold hearted...

Congregation Elders got a letter from headquarters on "Sexting". I guess this is the latest trend causing problems.

last week, my coboe, formerly known as the po, read a letter from ny giving directions on how to handle cases of "sexting" in the congregation.

i've vaguely heard of sexting in news articles.

i'm thinking though, the branch isn't going to send out a letter unless there's a trend.

Of course, some people make foolish decisions, witness kids maybe more so, and so instead of telling their kids to beware of perverts, it becomes a huge moral issue if people do what comes natural: look at naked pictures.

Exactly. They handle this all wrong. The -should- be telling people that sexual interests are normal, and people want to see pornography, will want to flirt, etc. They should be saying it's NORMAL to have these desires and feelings, but to be careful with how far they take things, that there are consequences to actions, and there are creepy people out there. Instead everything is demonized as simply BAD. Gosh they are screwed up.
