the miracles became world famous for ooo baby baby, tracks of my tears, you've really got a hold on me among many others.. bobby wrote as well as sang and choreographed for the miracles, temptations, mary wells, marvin gaye, and the marvelettes (he was married to marvelettes lead singer wanda young).

going to a go go, ain't that peculiar, the way you do the things you do, my baby, what love has joined together are some of the songs he authored and co-wrote.. every summer in the 60s the motown review would come to los angeles.. here the miracles perform shop around.

I am glad Smokey is still active. I just saw him on the cable-TV show "Life from Daryl's House" with Daryl Hall.

i have seen questions regarding how much jehovah's witnesses lie all the time on yahoo answers.

Did the Awake magazine tell the truth in its May 22, 1969 issue, when it said the below:

If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fullfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. Of the generation that observed the beginning of the 'last days' in 1914, Jesus foretold:'This generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.' Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers.

I was 8 in 1969 and staked my hope on words like these when I got just a little older. (My parents raised me JW from when I was born in December 1960.)

Now the "present system" has lasted 44 years, more than a "few years".

They said it was a FACT we young people of the time would grow older then. They didn't say it was their understanding.

When you say something is a FACT and it isn't, what is it? Take your pick - would it be a false prophecy, or a lie?

Real courage is speaking from your own convictions and acting on them, even in the face of an organization trying to defame you for doing so and old friends and relatives shunning you because you dared not to believe the same way they do.

Yes I it takes a measure of courage to stand out as different as a JW according to the dictionary definition of 'courage'. However, what the WT Society is really asking for (in this lesson) is for their members to take the heat for spreading the Watchtower's illogical, unpopular and unscriptural message. The rank-and-file take the heat, and the organization gets the benefits.

a topic on here about 1975 prompted me to write about how, for me, that is and never was or will be an issue.. also, the 144,000 and 'two classes' with memorial partaking, and child abuse are not issues with this religion.

everyone has their unique teachings and personnel problems.. the real problem with this religion was highlighted in the 2008 yearbook.

it gave a story of a young woman who was from estonia who was on the equivalent of american idol for estonia.

That is an excellent and concise definition of a cult - "a religion that deprives people of their freedom".

Funny/sad thing is, the JW's teach their people that they have more "real" freedom than non-believers. But they very narrowly describe the reasons for such claimed freedom. Like everything in the religion, even the way they define "freedom" more closely binds them to the organization.

i have been skimming the magazine this morning, and the whole issue seems designed to keep the flock at the kh.

yes, i know this is not exactly " new " information.

still with all the problems the organization is having, this one just seemed to strike me as odd.

Especially noteworthy is the statement: " Be courageous and strong...Jehovah your God is with you." Those words of Joshua 1:9 have been chosen as the year-text for 2013.

Yes Jehovah is with you, you single older JW ladies who don't get invited out much, and you victims of JW pedophiles who should just hang in there best as you can, those of you who were promised that the end would come many decades ago but it didn't quite work out, and you children of JW parents who are isolated from the rest of your schoolmates because of rules we created.

Your organization isn't with you, you're all just a number to us. But in some mystical, inconceivable way, Jehovah is with you. Or at least we're counting on convincing you into believing that - so that maybe we can count on you to keep laboring for us.

Wait, they still have shows about history on the History Channel? I thought all they had was ice road truckers and people digging through the garbage for junk.

Of course, they've turned into a channel that gives people what they want. Just like the one formerly called "The Learning Channel" now gives us Honey Boo-Boo.

Once in a while when the History Channel people think they have a show that will attract a good share of advertiser dollars like The Bible or The Vikings, they will air it on their main channel. All the traditional history programming (not quite so profitable) goes onto their 2nd network called H2.

The Euthyphro dilemma destroys belief that the Bible is inerrant

divine command theory allows christians to rationalise that unconscionable actions caused or commanded by the biblical god are morally justifiable.

for example, god commands the genocidal killing of whole national groups such as the amalekites, including killing all the children (1 samuel 15).. but by taking the side of the euthyphro dilemma that there is an objective, anterior morality that even god is subject to, one is forced to concede that such atrocities could not have been commanded or sanctioned by a perfectly moral god.

therefore, any passages of scripture where morally unacceptable actions are attributed to god in ancient scripture cannot be believed.

The responses I've heard from believers to this dilemma boil down to "God gives life, he can take it away as he suits his purpose."

In other words, God [and the priests / leaders who claim to represent God] can say "Do as I say and not as I do" when it comes to matters of morality.

Frustrating, right? There's always some answer that satisfies their limited curiosity when it comes to God. Don't think - just listen!
