just wanted to say hi, i love this forum, a little tired of the recovery forums, i am recovered and am doing everything that i never could, to excess and loving every minute of it.
anybody have any ideas of what badness i can try next, i'm all ears.. .
get your head out of your butt.
To answer the question above, PLNet is an acronym for "Pure Language Network", a closely-monitored site only for Jehovah's Witnesses. If they sniff out anything resembling a disagreement, you're history!
I too had been a life-long JW, up until age of 39. So your question hits home with me, "how do you look at the world without the witness shield over it?" The only answer is from the movie "What About Bob" with Bill Murray, and it's "baby steps"...Take one person at a time, one situation at a time, and conquer it. Deal with it "normally", even if you have to go through some ex-JW mental gyrations to do so. The JW eventually starts to fade away. Will it ever entirely go away? Many people say no. All I know is, it feels better to deal with people and with situations on their own terms, rather than according to the judgemental/theocratic/JW way of looking down on the rest of the world.
Wishing you peace. And don't take my tagline too seriously.

this past week there was a *bombshell* dropped about the reverend billy graham.
there were some audio tapes unclassified of conversations between billy graham and president nixon.. anyhow, the tapes revealed how billy graham really felt about the jews--proclaiming even then that "we'd better get the media out from under their control before it gets too late" and other anti-semitic remarks.. when questioned about it, graham simply stated that *he had no recollection of those conversations.
however he apologized for his anti-semitic remarks and the harm it may have caused.. now, what about jehovah's earthly organization????
That was an interesting bit of news. I remember when, as a JW, we remarked about how certain religionists like Billy Graham would sidle up to the religious leaders, and that that proved they were part of old Babylon.
Even now, I still think that to maintain their influence in the world, those like Billy Graham may try to 'echo' the thoughts of the world leaders they're hobnobbing with.
So Billy Graham may not have even meant what he said, he merely may have been agreeing with President Nixon. Speculation.
He does himself a disservice by qualifying his apology, by saying "he doesn't remember saying that" when it's right there on tape. No use even beginning to deny it.
But that having been said, you're right, at least he apologized for any hurt feelings that this revelation may have caused.
The next time you hear the WT Society officially apologize for any hurt it has caused will be the first. Proud men, ready for a big time comeuppance!

i heard this weekend that a convicted child abuser was murdered in jail.
i knew him but i don't remember his first name.
we were in the same congregation together for a few weeks.
What is your agenda YoYo?
O.K. I remembered the first name. It is Julio.
The agenda: To keep the board hopping with his lie, is his agenda. This is a falsehood, that in this fictitious case the elders disfellowshipped someone for child abuse/molestation.
DON'T FEED THE....

i was wondering who might have caught the celebrity boxing match on the fox network last night, and what you thought about it?
i saw it, and have to say i enjoyed it, as sickening as it was to me.
reality tv has reached a new low in my book, but the low happens to be disturbingly funny.
This latest travesty in entertainment was brought to you by none other than dick clark productions, who also brought you the shameful "Chamber" game show on Fox. I always thought Dick Clark had more class than to be the impresario of such crap. Oh well, whatever brings in the money and the ratings....[8>]
Maybe these has-beens could have settled their score through Celebrity bowling, celebrity billiards, celebrity darts, or celebrity poker. Darts? Naaa... they probably would have been instructed to start throwing the darts at each other!
Grown people! I mean, groan, people!

i was just surfing and looked at the official jw site.
there was a picture of a nun on the front page and it said: is there a sound basis for your beliefs?
if you click on it you get this link, to a watchtower article: http://www.watchtower.org/library/w/2001/8/1/article_01.htm.
The article said,
Their beliefs becloud their critical judgment.
Since when did the WT Society encourage critical thinking and analysis in its members. No, they want unquestioning loyalty. Critical thinking should only be applied to non-WT ideology. LOL!

HI yumbby,
You've come to the right place. Plenty of "bad association to spoil useful habits here".
Probably the best place to find such associates is over in the chat room. Especially if you encounter this lady named "Think41self" and she's in a mood to "spank" you!!
Look forward to hearing from you.

Here's a card a JW would send you on your birthday:
We know it's your BIRTHDAY,
But we won't celebrate it
Another year you've been in the world
And all we do is hate it!
So go ahead and have your cake
And try to eat it, too
The fact is Armageddon's coming,
And that's too bad for you!

after several days of thinking, and everyones suggestions.
i have finally named my birds.
first of all i want to thank everyone for their suggestions.
Ahhhh! I remember the parakeets I grew up, and the memories are fond. Each one had their own personalities, and their names fit them:
Reggie
Tiki
Sampson
Your birds and their personalities will surely be linked to those beautiful names for long after they're gone!
Hope they enjoy pooping on the Awake! magazine at the bottom of their cage.

ok, i'm a senior member, but still 'new' to this board.
since i'm not a jw or ex-jw, can someone please explain to me how jw's trace their 'authority' to be the true church that god set up.
a jw friend of mine said they go back 6,000 years.
Well, it's like this... everybody who ever was faithful in the Bible "bore witness" to Jehovah by their actions. Starting with Abel, Cain's brother, through all the faithful men and women of old mentioned in Hebrews chapter 11, to Jesus himself who was called the "Faithful and true witness" in Revelation 3:14. See the connection, they're all witnesses!!! And of course the nation of Israel was a group of "witnesses" to God's sovereignty, as it says in Isaiah 43:12.
So of course, the religion now known as Jehovah's Witnesses goes back 6000 years. The differences in the way they witnessed compared to the way JW's witness, is of course, new light!!
See the connection! Then you have great faith!! (I remember one time someone told me Jesus was a Catholic. hmmmm... sounds like similar reasoning.)
