Watchtower leaders are like Pharisees, very interested in technicalities, laws and position and a lot less about caring for people.
Can that rub off on those of us raised under their influence? Certainly it can. Often when we leave the JW's behind, that Pharisee stuff wears off and our normal, human, caring side comes to the front.

Lying for the theocratic warfare
by Gorbatchov inbecause of growing up in the jw religion we heared and read many experiences and encouragement for lying when nesscesary / needed for the theocratic warfare.
.

Rabbi Makes Outrageous Comment About Child Abuse
by metatron inhttp://forward.com/articles/172957/yeshiva-rabbi-bluntly-warns-sex-abuse-reports-put/.
oy vey!
such tall tales these children tell!
-
Gopher
A top rabbinic dean of Yeshiva University has warned rabbis about the dangers of reporting child sex abuse allegations to the police because it could result in a Jew being jailed with a black inmate, or as he put it, “a schvartze,” who might want to kill him.
Rabbi Schachter is talking like a racist son-of-a-bitch. It is well-known that many prison inmates (regardless of whether they are black) hate and disrespect child molestors who they view as the lowest of the low. The nationality/religion of the molestor does not matter either. They generally won't disrespect/hate a molestor any more or less because of his Jewishness.

"WT Publications are all propaganda!" admits the Awake! magazine
by 00DAD inread this lovely little admission and judge for yourself: .
there is a differencea big differencebetween education and propaganda.
education shows you how to think.
-
Gopher
1. Do the WT Publications show people how to think, or what to think? (The answer is NOT in the paragraph. You'll have to think for yourself).
Oh, oh oh! Over here!! (Yes, Brother Gopher.)
The Watchtower teaches that independent thinking is dangerous and allows room for the Devil's attitude to influence you.
Therefore, they admit that they want their followers to do "dependent thinking", as that is the only other kind aside from independent thinking. They want you to depend on their understanding of what is important and what the Bible means.
(I've used that line of reasoning with JW's in discussions on YouTube and have yet to hear any rebuttal! ) -

Question about talking to JW
by darklight ini was raised atheist and never believed in any religion.
i've been studying the watchtower religion with a younger jw couple for some months now.. my main motivation was the fact i knew nothing about christianity, they knocked on my door and offered their "bible" study... so why not learn something, i thought.. .
and yeah, this is one crazy cult.... .

But honestly they ARE good humans, and I feel sorry that they are destroying their life and children with this ##
My question is, are these people so brainwashed that they are unable to think anything without the watchtower?Yes many JW's are nice people, as much as you'd find in other religions or among unbelievers. No, they CAN and do think of things outside the Watchtower. The way they are taught, it leads them to have two sides to their personality - the JW-robot side, and the human side. When they are with non-JW's who might convert, they are stuck in JW-robot mode. It is really hard to pierce through that. Some possible questions have been suggested above, and it may plant a seed. Many people's experience with JW's is that, after asking them a question they don't expect, they say they'll research it and get back to you - but then never do.

Do You Believe In ANYTHING That The Witnesses Taught At This Point In Your Life?
by minimus infor example, they pride themselves in what they don't believe such as immortal souls, the trinity, hellfire, etc.. some exjws still believe it is the "truth" and support the basics.. .
-
Gopher
The Watchtower is actually pretty good at negative doctrines they don't believe:
immortal souls, the Trinity, hellfire, etc.
They're also good at pointing out hypocrisy of OTHER religions.
However...when it comes to creating any new doctrines, they're actually very bad. And they do their level best to frighten anyone away from seeing or pointing out THEIR hypocrisy.

The movie "Sessions " ? whats your take ?
by smiddy ini hope ive got the title right i`m going from memory.
helen hunt is a sex therapist with a severely handicapped guy fullfilling a basic need .. watching it , i thought it was an extremely important movie ,touching on a subject that most of us , certainly me , would not have contemplated .. and yet this is a function of life that the majority of people dont give a second thought to in their everyday lives.
yet we all participate in it .. yet think ,.......if you were deprived of sex ,period , because of a physical handicap, honestly ,how would you cope ?
-
Gopher
This might not be everyone's taste in movies, however it was highly critically acclaimed, garnering a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I didn't get to see it yet because there were so many good movies out at the end of last year that I had to see first. But I will rent it on Netflix.

Did anyone quote this one?
"Being limited by the laws of the worldly nation in which we live and also by the laws of God through Jesus Christ, we can take action against apostates only to a certain extent, that is, consistent with both sets of laws. The law of the land and God's law through Christ forbid us to kill apostates, even though they be members of our own flesh-and-blood family relationship."
