It is no more a wonder why the WTB&TS seeks to justify it's position. The situation is not much different from that of children who, finding themselves in a dark alley, sing loudly. The motivation of such is to instill some measure of confidence against the fear within. Every now and then, a feel-good article emerges on the pages of the Watchtower. The Society would engage blow it's feeble trumpet, producing discordant tones, and hurting itself.
****"They use and publicize God’s name, Jeho-vah".
To this day, the WTB&TS has not been able to provide any proof that Jesus ever pronounced the name of his Father. In all of Jesus' recorded verbal communication in the bible, he always referred to God as "Father" "My Father" and such titles. How can Jesus Christ be wrong? What about Yahweh? Nobody knows what the actual pronounciation of God's name was.
********"How do those having the true religion avoid having to learn by trial and error?"
A carefully worded question. Yet, the WTB&TS have learnt by trial and error. The changes (not adjustments) in the blood doctrine along with its inconsistencies, the reversal of the policy on transplantations, pyramidiology, Beth Sarim, Beth Shan, the war against medicine, the several end-of-the-world dates (1914, 1925,1975, and 1999/2000) have thrown up the Society (not God) as having miscalculated, and more surprising, they have failed to own-up to their own mistakes.
****"They are organized in the manner of the first-century Christian congregation."
Frequently, material in WTB&TS publications would villify Christendom for the Clergy/Laity situation. This has been the flagship reasoning in the campaign agaist Christendom in general and Catholicism in particular. The Society continues to deny the existence of a similar practice in the JW fold. But what about the District Overseer (DO), Circuit Overseer (CO) Branch Committee, etc etc designations? Are individual JWs expected to give these a measure of 'respect' beyond the normal? The answer is a resounding YES. It's a case of the kettle saying the pot is black. There should be a shedding of that unfitting garb of superiority.
"Is it presumptuous of Jehovah’s Witness-es to point out that they alone have God’s backing?"
****Of course, it may not necessarily be presumptuous for Jehovah's Witnesses to claim they have God's backing. They have the right to. But to do that and claim in addition that others do not have God's backing is going beyond the realm of reason. It is definitely presumptuous for any religion to claim that it alone have God's backing.
In these and similar statements, the writer or writers of this article express their own opinion. The opinions are, amongst other things, designed on the selfish aim of making rank and file Jehovah's Witnesses, humble and teachable people, many of whom know not "their left from their right" believe they are good and others are bad. They definitely would not be presuming to be speaking the mind of God. And they are not.
