this article from the newspaper in the latrobe area reffering to steven unthanks case is truly disturbing.
its an affront and an insult to any and everyone who has participated in the ministry of jehovah`s witnesses over many, many years.talk about being thrown to the wolves.how low can this organization go in saving face at the expense of those whose loyalty and devotion is discarded for a perceived image.absolutely shocking.
I remember those ID badges. I think they disappeared around the mid 90's.
One thing sticks in my mind was that they did, at one time, double up as "No Blood" cards as well. I think the "No Blood" bit was printed on the reverse. It was like a double whammy, you just couldn't NOT have the one without the other!

I know there needs to be protections but, how far? How deep? Is there no constitutional protection of parental support and love? Where did that go?

ohiocowboy has just posted this information on the two other threads dealing with the sudden collapse of the unthank cases.. i don't know steven unthank, but i just want to thank him from the bottom of my heart for having the courage against overwhelming odds to try and bring the watch tower society to justice over their deplorable neglect when it comes to protecting children from abuse and molestation.. steven is a man of justice and integrity who i deeply admire.
his actions will never be forgotten, and i only hope he can find it within himself to continue his work in whatever avenue may become available in the future.. they have won this battle, but they can never win the war.. .

I still don't understand why they were not prosecuted for failing to comply with the WWC act though. If I had broken the speed limit for the last three years, I doubt I could escape punishment by saying I stay within the limits now... "It's all sorted". Beggers belief. They broke the law and failed to comply - end of!
the mind boggles: the australian government / victorian government is held up to ridicule by people all over the world for failing to prosecute the wtb&ts, eg.jehovahs witnesses, for refusing to obtain working with children checks over a period of three years,in spite of the various agencies offering to give advice and assistance over that period of time to obtain one.
they arrogantly refused any such help.
today we learn that the dept.of prosecutions has taken over the case with the intent to dismiss this case because it`s" not in the public interest.
Trying to take a positive out of this.
I see this now as having greater impetus for the Media to investigate. As you've acknowledged - a law without teeth which is designed to protect children is signally, a failure.
Now that the Government is failing to support it's own laws (be it National or State) it must be easy to get people in the Media behind it. There aint nothing quite like a good scandal for Newspapers and TV to get their teeth into.
One thing I know about the Aussies - once they get riled out of a sense of injustice there is nothing in the world that will stop them fighting for it! It needs to be "out there" fully in the Public arena.

I reside in the UK and have been watching this situation for months now and was hoping for a just conclusion to things but it appears that this may not be the case at all.
I am saddened and dismayed by the recent correspondence from your office to Steven Unthank, who is prosecuting several cases against the leadership of Jehovah's Witnesses relating to their contemptuous and continuous disregard for the safety of children in your state.
I'm totally baffled how anything of this very nature can be regarded as "not in the interest of the public". Your very own law dictates that there should be a registration of individuals who supervise children. The law is formed in the interests of children. Are you now deciding that children are not part of that "public"? If this case does not go to it's full and natural conclusion then it can said that Justice in the state of Victoria has died. In fact, it will not have died naturally but was killed by one of the very offices that is charged with maintaining and upholding it!
This case has been followed worldwide by thousands of people who have an interest in Jehovah's Witnesses and the Watch Tower Society. Thousands of them know that child abuse goes on largely unchecked and unprosecuted due to the obfuscation through their own rules and regulations. That means the eyes of the world are upon you, sir, and you should be ashamed to even think that this case should be discontinued. If I didn't know better I would say you had been bribed to discontinue it - what other rational reason could explain such a preposterous action. I should say that it can be construed that your very own inaction is not in the public interest.
So just what is your public duty?
Protect your own laws. Protect your Justice... more than anything else... PROTECT your CHILDREN.
Please re-think your course of action in the coming hours. It could be the last hours of peaceful sleep you may ever enjoy if you have a conscience which I suspect and hope you have. It is to your inner self that I appeal - that you are duty bound as a human being to uphold the law and Justice. Think of all those children - please!
