The floodgates have opened
by B_Deserter ini posted elsewhere that i decided to contact a non-witness friend i cut ties with because she spoke ill of the society.
well, through her i was contacted by another former jw friend of mine.
turns out, we both thought we hated the other person, but turns out it wasn't true on either side.

So glad for you.... I hope it turns out well for you. It took a while to get over the trauma left by the borg but with the help of a very patient lady we got through. She is to become my wife in a few weeks! Whoot!

Was in for 34 years and was an MS twice... couldn't keep my mouth shut - so little wonder I never made elder, although, apparently I got close to it once when I was 22. I always thought then, how could I be considered wise at that age :-(
Marriage was bearable but going downhill... I was always led to believe it was my fault such was the guilt I was made to feel. Faded away but was still attending - just going through the motions. Went off the rails completely 4 years ago. I remember being at a DC feeling really angry but not knowing why. I told my now ex-wife I don't want to be here. She asked me why. I couldn't think of any reason than not wanting to be with so many hypocrits. (Don't misunderstand me, there are some good witnesses as people, just misplaced). "I hope you're not including me in that". 3 months later I found out my [then] 14 year old was not mine. How to keep that secret from me for 15 years? Did the honourable thing and tried to make it work, thinking it would be different not having to carry all that guilt. Shouldn't have bothered. I then realised why it was always as bad as it was.... it wasn't always me. Got df'd for living with the lady I'm about to marry!
Now I've found all the reasons why the borg stop people from looking on the interweb - too much truth out there. Boy, do they make me angry. Hypocrits. -

"Have you stopped killing your people?"
by hotspur inalledgedly, that is the question (or similar) which was asked of stalin by queen elizabeth ii when she first met him.
i thought it was so apposite to the situation jws are finding themselves today.
and what a question?

Alledgedly, that is the question (or similar) which was asked of Stalin by Queen Elizabeth II when she first met him. I thought it was so apposite to the situation JWs are finding themselves today. And what a question? Bet they never knock my door now!
And even if she never said it [I've googled but I know I've read it somewhere] it carries all the weight of a block of flats dropped from the top of Everest.
Just how do you answer a question like that?
Hmmm
....... they deserved it?
....... they wanted to die?
....... they weren't any good?
....... I was testing a theory?
....... they wanted to uphold an unwritten principle?
....... 7 men in Brooklyn said it was ok?
....... the 7 men in Brooklyn said that's what happened 2000 years ago? -

Memorial conundrum - "So good to see you. Where have you been?"
by Meeting Junkie No More inok, gearing up for the memorial - our annual have to attend.
this is the first year that we will be showing up without having been to meetings in months.
on the last meeting i was cajoled into attending, i was bombarded with the above question.

So, Beroean. If you thought those cars were, quote "unsafe", that implies they were dangerous, quite capable of killing someone, at least it does to me. To not speak out against them and someone were to be be killed makes you bloodguilty. At least that was what was rammed down my throat when I was in if I didn't go on the Service!
All people do here, as far as I can see, is find ways of helping others out of a "deadly" situation. If that takes time and a degree of negativity toward JWs - so what? It still needs doing.
Getting a life (which is your inference) is exactly what people on here have been doing and with a passion from what I've seen. -

Why do the majorityof JW's look so happy at the hall?
by JH ineach time i go, i see a bunch of happy people, young and old.
some smile more than others, but just about everyone seems happy to be there.. maybe we left because we weren't that happy, rather than finding flaws in the religion.. maybe they look happy because they aren't allowed to look sad..

I was told by an elder I should look happy when I go into the Hall. I replied, "Give me something to be happy about. Whenever I come here I have to think about what I say and to whom. I have to be careful over what I do. I have to analyse everything you say and interpret its real meaning. I have to ponder how everything else at home will get done when I'm spending three hours getting and being here".
I guess he was never happy to see me either! WooHoo! -

Urgency Enigma....
by hotspur inhow come an organization that is busting all out to get people through armageddon urgently is not teaching anything about survival?
any storm predicted (weather forecast) sees people scurrying around to protect themselves.
all that seems to happen in jw land is preparation for more printing.

So, it wasn't just me then! LoL
I think the meetings created the ideal atmosphere for young fertile minds to run riot..... my musings were just as torrid! I'm surprised I never had nightmares.
What did I see around me to prepare for this impending persecution? "We must get out into the field more!" I thought then that was a bit facile. Place ourselves into more jeopardy?
Why did it take so long for me to see the reality of an organisation controlled through fear? I you're frightened enough or the fear is perceived to be coming from a divine source and is therefore benevolent you can be persuaded to do almost anything. -

How come an organization that is busting all out to get people through Armageddon urgently is not teaching anything about survival? Any storm predicted (weather forecast) sees people scurrying around to protect themselves. All that seems to happen in JW land is preparation for more printing. Even Noah preached AND built an ark!
I mean, all the pictures I ever saw was of people dressed neatly, clean clothes not under-nourished in any way. Why don't they teach people how to grow food, cater for themselves, build shelters, prepare against disease, etc,. There seems no sense of commitment to the final cause of "Armageddon Survivor". Do they think that after the Armageddon switch is thrown another switch operates and says "here's your neatly pressed and washed clothes" - "here's all your food"? "Suncream anyone?"
Is it simply, "The lord will provide"?
Reality check!
