You know how when you're in a room with something that smells really bad, and at first you can hardlt stand it, and then eventually you realize that you can't even smell it at all anymore? That's actually called olfactory fatigue, but whatever. Happiness is the state that you experience when things have been so bad for so long that you no longer notice how bad everything sucks.

Does anyone know what happens to full-time JW's(DO's, CO's, Missionaries, Special pioneers, etc) when they reach old age?
by african GB Member ini am just wondering since these people never work a secular job.
is there some sort of an arrangement from the society to care for them?
presuming they don't even have children of their own to look after them when they are old..

My JW Neighbor Died
by Farkel ini posted some time ago about my jw neighbor and how my other neighbors mowed her yard as a courtesy.
she was old and wheel-chair bound and they were good samaritans.
they were not dubs.

Yeah, if you're mowing my grass or whatever you can say absolutely anything you want and I'm cool with it.

Posting recorded conversations or transcripts on the internet
by InterestedOne ingiven the weird dynamic of conversations with jw's, sometimes you only get the effect of it if you hear a recording of it.
i was wondering if it's illegal to post recorded conversations with them on the internet without their permission.
what about posting a typed-out transcript as long as the speakers are not identified?
-
Elgiard
Depends on where you do the recording. In some places, as long as one party (you) in the conversation knows that the conversation is being recorded, then it's all good. In other places all parties need to be notified that the conversation will be recorded, but notification can be as simple as having the recorder in plain sight or having it emit an audible beep at intervals.
As for posting your recorded conversations, once the recordings are made then you own copyrights and can do whatever you want with them. Unless you're violating doctor/patient confidentiality or something.

10. Millions of Witness children received presents the year round. (LOL)
9. Wait, how many annointed ones are there again?
8. New Light became so bright that publishers were warned that maybe SPF30 will no longer be adequate. (But I wouldn't worry about that)
7. Attacks by demon possesed smurf dolls were at an all time low.
6. Millions now living will never die. Probably. Maybe.
5. There's no number 5.
4. So how 'bout this generation thing, eh? (No, seriously, what's with that?)
3. Sexual abuse victims continued to "wait on Jehovah©". (That's not funny.)
2. The purpose of wind chimes is still to ward off evil spirits.
1. The world continued to not end.

Christmas visit from the elders
by MrFreeze inyes the elders made another stop to continue to try to get me back to the meetings.
my main argument with them has been the incorrect dates.
607, 1914. they said i need to stop focusing on dates.

During the discussion they were trying to dig into the reasons for me leaving. It couldn't possibly be the teachings! They asked, "Is it a girl? Is it drugs? Is it alcohol?" No on all three, except the third. In that case however, Jehovah's Witnesses have driven me to alcohol. They also used the opportunity to bash on Christmas. Another fun discussion with these "shepherds".
I had a similar experience with a trainee CO. He came by with the regular CO to "help" me with my "doubts" and instead tried to grill me about what sort of secret sin I was trying to conceal/justify by pretending I had doubts about Jehovah's organization. He just couldn't comprehend the idea that someone might have ACTUAL DOUBTS about the organization.
He probably had his own secret sin which he was trying to conceal, and couldn't imagine that someone else wouldn't be the same.

Nostradamus prediction of 2012 and the timing of the society leaving New York City
by dysfunction ini have been doing research on nostradamus prediction and some of his predictions talks about 2012 and planet x and possible flooding of new york city and ect.. which goes along with rev about the water turning bitter, and great famine because of the polar shifts.
does anyone know anything about this and the possible connection as is why they might be selling their real estate and trying to leave new york city?
any thoughts ... feel free to venture off topic..or outside the box..

Research...
by Charlotte2010 ini'm looking for someone to help with some research.
i need to find out about the culture and beliefs of jw's.
it must be from a genuine jw, not hear say from someone who 'knows' about the faith or has previously been a jw, i need to hear the view as a positive.. if anyone can help i'd be grateful if you could get in touch.

JW's traditions are to avoid all traditions.
This morning I dropped off a JW friend's first-grader at school ... on the way there she was in tears because she doesn't like everyone asking her why she can't celebrate Christmas and really wants to build a gingerbread man with her classmates.
We've all suffered at the hands of this cruel cult, so this is nothing extraordinary, but that struck me as just really sad.

I remember being dragged out on a thursday night in a snowstorm and literally almost dying, only to finally get to the KH and wait and wait and wait for someone else to show up, only they never did because meeting was cancelled and no one bothered to call us.
