Please don't take offence at this ...
by Joe Grundy ini'm not a jw, never have been, and in no danger of becoming one.. having read several of the wt mags and publications (and many more extracts on this and other sites) they come across to me as being very patronising in tone and full of pseudo-scholarship, misquoted (or unnamed) sources, references taken out of context, mis-translations, etc.
i'm aware of jw 'teaching' on the subject of higher education for its members (i.e.
not a good or necessary thing) so i can understand why many jws raised in it may not challenge the publications.

Slack Off!
by Grout inthe church of the subgenius is a worthy replacement for the wtbts.
in fact, sometimes i have a hard time telling them apart!
jehovah kills those who drudge their lives away without knowing who he is, but he rewards the ones who recognize his stark fist and carry out his seemingly immoral plans while slacking off every chance they get.. .

Oslo hypothesis vs. Jonsson hypothesis
by scholar init has been announced that two forthcoming volumes examing the secular and biblical ecidence for bible chronology are due for publication in the spring, 2003. rolf furuli a semitic language scholar provides a new approach to the many problems associated with current chronology.
it should be interesting to see how this book will be reviewed in the scholarly literature and compare this material with jonsson's gentile times reconsidered.
to date i am unaware of any scholarly review of the jonsson hypothesis.

So, where DID the 1914 timeline go awry?
by Xander inokay, i know that historical evidence is that jerusalem fell in 586/7 instead of 607 - as the wtbts would have.
however, that is not compelling enough to show a hypothetical jw.
they (generally) must not only be show that the opposition is correct, but that the wtbts is wrong.
