ok.....here's one for you.....maybe this follows on from previous posts about not forever being "ex-jws" as after all, you say you have to move on, and many here claim that they have.....however reading most posts here it becomes obvious that that doesn't seem to be the case.
many seem to be trapped in a "go get 'em" crusade against the jws that seems to go round and round ...... and others just go round.. why?

While I just drop in from time to time, I really like this board and a lot of people who post here. I have saved a lot of information here that has benefited me in adjusting my own attitudes and in trying to help others.
One reason I have posted on this board and over at H20 was to try and help others. All of us who have been in this cult have valuable experience that can help others to avoid or to get out of the same trap we were once in.
As for disagreements, yeah, humans will always do that unless there is some kind of Big Brother keeping them in line. Watch the political debates in your government sometimes. Think about disagreements within your own family. Most of us can tolerate a lot of differences, and most of us approach this site without a desire to control or dominate any other person.
I don't know what your situation is. Maybe you have posted it and I missed it. I hope you are out and free and that all of your family are too. I hope no one that you love like your mom or dad is shunning you. It does make a difference in your attitude that you need to experience to appreciate fully. So don't judge too harshly, and be patient. There's a lot of smart people here who have had similar experiences and can offer advice and informed views that deserve to be listened to. At least, that is how I see it.
If you are an ex or current Witness then you need a place like this to find out more about the lies you have been told, to find out more of the tricks past and present the old Cult has been up too, and to see what the latest changes your loved ones are being brainwashed into accepting are.

Yeah, I know what you are talking about. It isn't just Witnesses. My wife's good friend was over for dinner the other night and we were sitting around drinking coffee and talking when religion came up. This is a nice soft spoken lady but she has been helping "Pastor" with his book on Revelation. This guy is the minister of a independant Baptist church and it is growing by leaps and bounds, they are high tech, great music department, something going on for every age group all the time it seems, and like the Witnesses they love to seem to be the only ones on the right track. They love to hammer the Methodists and other mainline religions for not accepting the WHOLE BIBLE, push homeschooling bigtime, and after my experience with the Witnesses they turn my stomach. Anyway, this guy is writing a book on Revelation, he can explain it all. It was funny to hear the old scriptures brought up again, time and time and half a time to them means seven years for the Great Tribulation. The thrust of his book is to explain that the Rapture can occur half way through or at the end of Revelation, not at the beginning as most of his peers think. Gag. Just hearing people pretend to a knowledge and make time predictions on the same scriptures the Witnesses twisted, well, it made me real sorry for all those still willing to bite at that worm.
The evolutionists are just as narrow minded and just as eager to force their view. Looks like they would have learned to live and let live. Its your business.
I say believe what you want. Unless it affects me, you are welcome to your own beliefs.
By the way, you come from a part of the country I sure like. Montana right?

when i was about 11 years old me and my two(not so bright)sisters were at a hotel swimming pool.i was sitting by the pool watching my one sister(we will call her k) that could barely swim herself teach my other sister who was terrified of water(we will call her b) how to swim.they started out in shallow end swimming underwater when b went off course and ended up in the deep end.when she came up she started panicing and k went over to help her.
b grabed on to k pushing her under water and then k paniced and pushed b under trying to stay above water.they did this cute little routine for a while (up pops k down goes k up pops b down goes b)if it was'nt so life threatening it would of been hilarious.
(i did start laughing...at first)then it got to the point where i knew i had to do something because they were getting ready to drown...they were swallowing tons of water and there was no time to get help.
As a parent with children prone to severe croup (the daughter that shuns me now) and asthma, my wife and I had our share of close calls getting the kids to a hospital. For some of the time it meant a drive of thirty miles or so and its a wonder we lived through the ride as I would be doing all the road would allow.
Over the years I have been fortunate enough to help save three different people, my brother, my neice and an uncle, all from drowning. Two in ponds, my little brother was making clay castles in a pond and slipped into a hole never made a sound except for the splashing and it was lucky I looked. Later my yankee uncle was watching us rednecks slide down a mosscovered spillway into a deep pool at the bottom and he fell in. He'd acted like he could swim, just didn't want too so I was a little slow getting to him, thinking he was just goofing around. Twice I nearly died saving them, the uncle nearly drownded me as I got him to the bank, wound up holding my breath and staying under to do it and I was so exhausted with the neice at Ft. Walton Beach in a rip tide I don't think I could have made it in if the little brother I had saved as a child hadn't jumped in clothes and all and helped me get her in. That made us even! That one I had a lot of time to think on. I couldn't get in with her, and wouldn't come in without her and I could see my family up on the beach going on as though things were normal. Strange. Life is sweet. It feels good to think you helped someone get to live a longer one. My uncle named his kid after me, as a teenager it made me real proud.

I have mixed emotions about abortion rights. I am against abortion unless it is done before the ingredients become a child. Just when that is seems hard to define.
I have no such mixed emotions over stemcell research, it should be done with all the manpower and technology that we can devote to it. As I understand it just harvesting umbilical cords with their stemcells would supply a lot. Like the others on this board who think wonderful things are just ahead, I am amazed at how much they already do. Diabetics already have it so much better now than a few years back. So much has been done to help those afflicted with so many different problems. I think it is great. As for the money, hey, the money is nothing compared to the real relief offered to humans.
When I look back at human history I am just grateful to live in a time when I can have glasses to read with! At forty I suddenly started having trouble trying to read a book up close. All those people for all those centuries who dealt with poor vision when it is so easily corrected, wow. I feel for them, and for those today who can't take avantage of such basics. Bring on the stemcells. One day we will feel the same way about the advantages they and things like them will have brought about.

One good thing seems to be that the latest "get tough" talks, videos and such don't seem to be making that much difference. Since the change in "This Generation" and the lack of a real timetable for the END the older bunch have just settled into enjoying the social aspect of it. They have a lot of time invested and a lot of friends and family in so they still hold on. The younger bunch has never been fired up, they too have friends and family in and it is just easier to be attached than to make the break and walk away. Almost all of the younger ones I know just aren't into it. Happily as soon as the old Sumbitches in Patterson die off I think this bloody little cult will become much blander and kinder and then disappear. I hope so. There should be some trial and jail time served, but all in all their disappearing would salve my anger. I hope they die in the full knowledge of just how wrong they have been, though dying while drooling is ok too. The main thing is that they are all dying and soon.

My wife and I voted early. Our main guy, McBride lost, but I am still glad I voted for him. He handled his defeat with grace and dignity, I was proud of him. I don't guess Bush is the worst governor in the country, and I sure feel sorry for him in regard to some of his family problems. I had done my research and it hurt to see Buddy Dyer and maybe Thurman (difference of 1% last time I saw it) go down when they were best for the jobs, but at least I tried. The rest of it went the way we wanted it. I sure hated the mud-slinging.
I also voted for one Libertarian, I like that bunch although I don't think they would work in a national government.

but the purpose of this posting is to express my sentiments about the death of my jw aunt over the weekend.
as many of you know i have very strained relationship with my dub family - being around them is the last thing i want to do.
Thanks for sharing a personal story. I am glad for your sake that you had such an aunt, and glad for her sake that she had you. Yours was probably the only unconditional love she knew. I admire you for all that you did for your aunt. You seem like the same kind of person you say she was...real, caring and good. Maybe those of your family who were there will have those blinders pryed off just a bit by your behaviour. I hope so.
I sat down and tried to plan just how I want my funeral done the other day. A more difficult job than I anticipated. If I am not welcome in someone's home it makes me want to say they aren't welcome at my funeral, but that is sinking to their level I guess. I don't want a religious service, though I do want some verses and poetry read. All of us should probably give it some thought, as we will have some kind of service, planned by someone. With the peculiar situation we have in regards to family members we do want there it takes some thought.
Once again, my sympathy on the death of someone you loved so much. I still believe in a Creator. I still believe in justice tempered by love.
