  Freedom of speech and JW's (of course)

  western lands pride themselves in allowing freedom of speech.. it has benefits and drawbacks.. it means that people can be exposed to ideas that are beneficial and true , also ones that are harmful and false.. for example freedom of speech allows corruption to be revealed by the press and for people to speak out against harsh regimes.. but also allows religious lies and falsehoods along with racism to be spread.. when people lack the necessary reasoning skills or are unduly effected by a certain upbringing and background freedom of speech allows people to be taken in by and to spread harmful ideas.. a good education along with a well balanced upbringing allows people to develop good reasoning and thinking ability that can ultimately improve the way their country is run and to create better lives for the majority.. when we see a lack of education , impoverished backgrounds and bad parenting this often leads those effected down the wrong path in life , though many have managed to fight their way out.. most crime is committed in deprived areas and amongst the people who live in them, where it is also obvious that children haven't the best opportunities in life.. this can lead to them thinking in a way that is different to others of a different background and they may see crime for example ,as the only way out.. the point being that background and education can have large effect on us as people.. so along with freedom of speech we have people from many varied backgrounds , this will alter what they see as a just and fair world to them.. as long as we want the right to choose what we can say and practise we must allow others to do so , even if we don't agree and really believe are wrong.. free access to a good education and upbringing can help people avoid being taken in by flawed reasoning and its results.

  the key to a better world is to improve the people.. this can be done and people can be helped to avoid making big errors of judgment (such as becoming a jehovahs witness) if we can improve the lives of people in general.. better education ,elimination of poverty along with other related factors will surly help change the way many people think.

  Actually, you're right Red. Until last week I had no idea how many inconsistancies and outright lies the WTS had. It is kind of like Hitler. By the end of WW2 he was a liability to the germans so us killing him would not have worked in our favor. They consistantly manage to contradict themselves much better than we could ever do.

  Pictures in the mags

  have you noticed the pictures in the mags and books, when showing a picture of a witness house in a western land where they are prehaps having the book study or some thing similiar?.

  how come the house is always well decorated with nice matching furniture?.

  according to the society we should all be giving up our jobs and pionering.. a more true to life photo if we were pioneering like the mags say we should , be a few boxes to sit on along with some unmatching second hand chairs and table along with the partly decorated walls in a bed-sit.. so why don't they show the houses of pioneers when they use pictures?.

  Well it's funny because all the elders in my KH had nice homes with two car garages and three cars. Of course they had to "council" me when I chose to go to community college because as we all know a good job will do me no good when the world won't live past 1995. Yeah, in fact all the guys that told me not to go to college had good jobs and big houses.

  it looks to me like a cult based on buddisem.

  as i was driving away from the airport a couple of days ago, i noticed a bunch of asian folks getting out of about 4 cars with these bright yellow t-shirts on.

  I wonder if this is the same as Qi Gong; the religion in China that got the gov. all hot and bothered. I use the Buddhist methods of meditation, practice Yoga, and Tai Chi. I think it is kind of weird hearing about a cult that gives you the full body workout. Maybe they want you to live longer so you won't be dying off like all the faithless and demeaning slave's in Jehovah's cult.

  Proof of the "historical" Jesus...

  been wondering about this lately.... what proof (outside the bible, of course) do we have for the "historical jesus"?.

  in my earlier days (post jw to "born again christian") i remember reading that the one thing that differentiates christianity vs. "all the others" was that we had secular historical proof that there was a man that was called jesus, who died on a cross and was resurrected.

  now i am wondering just what that proof is/was?

  Man I've had this very debate just a few weeks ago on another message board. I have yet to read the book because it reads like a history textbook with cross references galore but "The Jesus Mysteries" seems to claim that Jesus was a conglomeration (sp) of different religous idealogies. Some stem from Judahism and others from Roman and Sumerian Pagan belief systems. Was Jesus real? I don't know but I do know that he was not the son of God in the sense that christianity places him. One would think however, that with the Roman nation switching to christianity they would have done their own research. The fact that none of the surrounding nations, much less towns have any written history at all about the existance of Jesus or miracles does make skeptisism easy. As far as prophesies, none of them have come true. At this rate Miss Cleo is doing a better job.
  I do agree that skeptics take the same leaps in logic that religous zealots take but it is a personal job to disseminate the information.

  WARNING: THIS IS GRAPHIC BUT A TRUE ACCOUNT

  I was DF'd for committing fornication. I had already started to figure out that the religion had some serious flaws but that didn't stop me from feeling like all my misfortune was brought on by my disobedience to God. Thought I would share some highlights of the actual "sentencing". The female that I was involved with, Tawnya Landry, now Tawnya Crabtree all but did nothing during her hearing. I went the other route. All of this is paraphrasing and drawn from my memory of an event 12 years ago.

  me.."I came here to tell you that I've been having sex with Tawnya."

  them."I see, you knew already she had been punished for fornicating
  with someone else, correct?"

  me.."yeah, I knew. He was my friend at one time."

  them."So how often did you engage in relations with her?"

  me.."I'd say in about a 6 month period we've had sex over 40 times."

  silence...

  them."Ummm, that's 40 individual times or multiple times in one night?"

  me.."That would be 40+ seperate encounters ranging from my car, her car and her work. I didn't think it was nessecary to state the multiple times during each encounter because that would be above 100. Even that is pretty low because it's so hard to find any place were we wouldn't be interrupted."

  silence...

  them."I see. I don't think I even have that much sex with my wife."
  OK, I swear he said this. I almost started laughing.

  them."Were there any other acts committed during this time? Other than intercourse?"

  At this point I figured I could tell them to get on with it but decided to entertain them.

  me.."Well let's see, she went down on me a few times. But it took some convincing to do that."

  them."You mean she had oral sex with you and you had to convince her to do it?"

  me.."yeah, I just kinda figured that since we were already having intercourse that goin down on me wouldn't be that much of a leap."

  silence..

  Them."You don't seen very repentent. Is there anything you'd like to say in your defense?"

  me.."I knew the outcome of this before I came in here. If you want me to say I didn't enjoy it I would be lying. If you want me to say I'm sorry for doing it, I don't know if I can. It is what it is a weakness on my part."

  At this point they dismiss me to "discuss" the matter. Thing is the walls in my KH were paper thin and I could hear everything they were saying. They didn't even weigh anything, of course my case was pretty open and shut, all they could do was talk about me having sex with her over 40 occasions. They discussed it for about 5 minutes laughing amongst themselves until they called me back in and dispensed with the DF'ing.
  In all honesty I was not even near being repentent. She got busted for having sex with her now Husband, Jacob Crabtree, before she ever hooked up with me. You know her big concern? Losing her friends and family. God never even entered into the picture. Anyway, that is my story. It's funny now but back then I didn't think so regardless of my attitude.

  for a privileged few, you get an article with your lifes story published in the wt.

  most at least receive a grand send off with a kh memorial service.. my father passed away a couple of weeks ago.

  he was just shy of his 89th birthday.

  Holy Crap! Sorry, but that is a sad story and a true testement to the mentality of the borganization. I'm sorry to hear about your dad. You are very right to be concerned about the treatment of your family. I'm sorry that it has taken so much death for you to see the real truth. My words seem woefully inadequate at the moment. I hope that the healing of your family stays on course and over time, like me, you'll find that true happiness is not bound by a book or the words of men.
