While you are doing a dinosaur search.......see if you can find out about the T-rex.....you know.....why he was built to eat meat......not plant life. Everything was at peace until A&E ruined it......right?

JW's and drinking
by DanTheMan inis it just me, or is alchohol consumption at parties and vacations virtually an unwrittten rule of jw-culture?.
when i was in, i did not drink, and i still don't.
i often felt almost ostracized for this by my jw associates.

I was in and been around the Borg for 42 years... if you count my babyhood, And GENERALLY SPEAKING would have to say many more dubs DO drink than not. It is their only LEGAL escape that they have other than pills. They can't smoke bud.
With the emotional duress that comes with being a person that is to try and live according to dub theology, ......and one just can't seem to "cut" it.....drinking is a way to "deal" with it for many.
Others are doing it with opiates in the form of legal pills for pain.........ah! how many dubs just love ol' Vicodin! Or is it valium or xanex you prefer? If the dub isn't doing these things......they are on anti-depresants. Shopping is an addiction for many a twisted sisters who need to "deal" with being a sister.
My point is....yes many dubs do drink. Not all do, and not all abuse other things either Nothing is wrong with drinking, but when drinking is used to "deal" rather than to just get a good ol' buzz...just cuz you want to kick back......one needs to ask themselves....."what am I having a problem with, that I need to medicate myself just to deal with it?
Why do some have stories of boozeless congregations and others are party animals.....?.......different halls have different personalities......some are real strait and others are lienient.... Oh the joy and harmony that exist in this spiritual paradise!!!!!!!!!

District Conv. Releases?
by NeonMadman ini've seen several rumors and advance mention of the convention releases for 2002, but if there was a post that laid it out clearly, i must have overlooked it (not hard to do, given the speed with which threads get buried around here).
can someone give me the exact details?
are there 2 books or only one?

At least in my day with the dubs you got a pretty hardbound book. All softback now.(they need to conserve)
No dub should get exited about finding some harsh message or new truth in a new realease.....it won't happen and never has. New light or material always comes out in the Watchtower first ,or orally through Letters, C/O'S, D/O'S....not new releases.

Is apostate an appropriate term for us?
by sleepy in.
how do you feel?do you like to be called apostate ?.
apostate just means: someone who renounces a former belief or principle.. to people who have never been witnesses it may not symbolise much.but to witnesses the word means a lot.in many of their minds it is synonymous with evil and perverted.. since it jw's who will likely call us apostate not others the term almost always has a bad or negative useage.. but it does identify us as people who have completely rejected the religion.. so is it good for us to use it or not?

Quote:
Gumby,
"No, that is not true. Apostasy must be understood in context. The Jews that still believed in the Law were apostate according to Paul and not as you suggest."
Look up the meaning and see if it does not apply both ways. It is a deviation from an 'orthodox' way.
The Jews or Christians could be considered such.....depending on WHO you are asking.

All of the Christianized Jews were Apostates. They left Judaism for christ.
Paul, was a major Apostate.
The ONLY time the word bothers me is when it comes from a loyal dub who says something like..."they are leaving the truth'and becoming an APOSTATE. When the dubs use the word.....it makes my skin crawl!

Since you agree that humans cannot solve their problems, then you must agree that we should look to Gods Kingdom to do that for us.
Why do they assume that is the only other alternative people have to choose from?
What if you were a muslim or budhist, or atheist, or agnostic?
It's verbal trickery.....two choices....that's it.
How your blood pressure dosen't go up at times like this baffles me. My heart beats like I just ran the mile when I begin to go into conversation with a dub.....when I get the lucky chance to do so.

Quote: Today, Jehovah's Witnesses continue the teaching and disciple-making workarranged by Jesus. (Mathew 24:14) They respect the right of others to have their own religion. But when it comes to sharing their religios beliefs with others, they follow the pattern set out in the Bible. Yes, they use honest reasoning from the Scriptures in what they consider to be a life-saving work
Did Jesus arrange it the way it is done by JW's today? Did people COLD call to everyhouse?
Did he institute a 6 month study programs (less now) ,Return visits, not at homes, keeping your time, marking someone as irregular or inactive? Did he read the morning text before they went out?
Do not other organisations have missionaries all over the world? Are not churches going up faster than kingdom halls?
About honest reasoning......you have alot to learn yet my friend, about the dubs.
JW's teach many truths.....don't get me wrong. They also teach lies. You'll find out soon enough if you stick around here long enough.

Disfellowshipping/2 witness rule
by zev indo you shun former members?.
those who simply cease to be involved in the faith are not shunned if they don't make anything vocal as to why they are leaving.
in compliance with the scriptures, however, members can be expelled for serious unchristian conduct, such as stealing, drunkenness, or adultery, if they do not repent and cease such actions.

How it should read.:
Do you shun former members?
Those who simply cease to be involved in the faith are not shunned if they don't make anything vocal as to WHY they are leaving. In compliance with the Scriptures, however, members can be expelled for serious unchristian conduct, such as stealing, drunkenness, or adultery, if they do not repent and cease such actions. Disfellowshipping does not sever family ties, if they live in the same household. If they live outside the home, family ties no longer exist Disfellowshipped members may continue to attend religious services, and if they wish, they may receive pastoral visits, unless they are known apostates They are always welcome to return to the faith as long as they don't ask questions against our faith.1 Corinthians -13.

JW Family Tries Black-Mailing Me
by Prisca ini have spent the last week or so with my sister and bro-in-law and my 6year old niece, all jws.
they live in a town not too far away from me, and i visit them every couple of months or so.
my sister and i are close, not extremely so, but we appreciate each other as we have no other bros & sisters, our mother died 21yrs ago, and our father treats us as though we are dead too (due to non-jw issues).. last time i went to visit them, my bro-in-law asked my niece to ask me if i'd go to the meeting.

Hi Blondie. Thanks for the comments. However my daughter is as mad as he is. She was told first by my wife....then the grandaughter told her dad. I think my daughter was going to tell him, but the little one beat her to it.
I also have a 10 year old grandson who was standing nearby and heard the whole thing.
