Do not go beyond the things written
by truthseeker1969 inwhen considered the above gives the society carte blanche to make up what it wants when it comes comes to things unwritten.. when asked where in the scriptures judicial committees are mentioned and whether they are scriptural, the answer was: "since it is not written it is not going outwith the things written".
in other words regardless of right or wrong things can be made up if they are not specifically written in the scriptures.. however, your input is requested on the baptismal questions.
since it is written that we are baptized in the name of the f s hs then is the current baptismal question blasphemy?.

When they say "Do not go beyond the things written" they steal the phrase and make it mean things written by them, the W.T.
JW's go first to the WT publications, second to "mature JW's", and possibly to the Bible as a poor third, but they rarely get that far.
The current Baptismal questions are designed to make sure the poor acolyte has swallowed the nonsense that the WT/JW's are God's Organization, a claim for which they have no proof.

If the GB and their suck ups were threatened with........
by punkofnice in......the 'chair' or execution for crimes against humanity or whatever unless they change doctrine eg 'no blood' and practices like 'shunning' and 'paedo protecting', would there suddenly be loadsa loadsa 'new light'(tm), changing these things as the gb protect their posteriors?.
..or would the members of the gb gladly march to their death without changing a thing relishing the thought that they're being martyred for 'jehovah'(tm)?.
...........something i've wondered about..

Dear Janet B,
It was that very "emptiness inside" that you spoke of that spurred me on to seek out the real truth. Had I not read things like Terrys post above, I should still be thinking that perhaps the WT/JW religion is perfect but for one or two flaws that were obvious to me at the time.
It takes a challenge to your beliefs and world-view to make you investigate and search.
Keep up the good work Terry !

The above stories are terrible to consider, normal family love and communication snatched away by a cult that misinterprets the scriptures that deal with such matters.
I feel so very upset for all in that situation, it is a scandal that the public should be aware of.
Jesus Christ, as he is shown to be in the Gospels, would condemn such actions as worse than blasphemy.

When I was an active JW, I believed that a God of love would not destroy anyone permanently who did not deserve such destruction.
I had no problem with the idea that some would come in at the last second and be saved, or that the most unusual people, from our perspective, Adolph Hitler say, would be brought back to life in the New System because their mental illness was adjudged by God to have accounted for their actions.
Far from being "upset" , I would have been gratified that a God of Justice had acted in a righteous maner. I believe there are many active JW's today who feel the same.
What is really upsetting to them, as it was to me, is to find out the whole thing, New System, God of Justice etc, is a sham and a pipe-dream.

What a dumb thing to have done!
by Fernando inat times i want to kick myself for mindlessly letting the "god of religion" teach me about the "god of abraham" for more than 40 years.
what was i thinking?.
then again i was a third generation born-in who simply and naively believed the "reality" i was presented with, whilst unknowingly being held captive by spiritually blind, confused, inebriated and insane watchtower religionists in a mental prison with invisible bars..

If you eat enough of them, you can fart like that Hippo on the other thread !

"tec" asked about establishing the age of the manuscripts, and fragments, that we do have. Carbon dating is one method, paleography is another.
The alphabets, scribal notes, language usage etc all change very quickly, as in the change from Shakesperean English to today's. So dating is a fairly exact science, always with the caveat that a few years either way must be allowed.
So, we know for sure, that all we have are copies of copies of more copies that were probably translations in many cases.
Even if we had the original autographs, we would still have to ask when was the writer at work, and more importantly, why was he at work ? What was his agenda ?
So it is very silly to argue about "every jot and tittle", it is very silly to say "Jesus said..." or similar, and it is downright criminal to build a doctrine such as the WT's on refusing the life saving use of blood, on such flimsy, unverifiable sources.
