This past weekend I was speaking to a friend who attends the hall that I once did in northern Illinois.
We were catching up on the latest news regarding the mass disfellowshipping (53) of teenagers that happened in the area, and she shared
with me a very disturbing comment made by an elder from her hall.
They were talking about the DFing and he said that they needed to be cast out, it was akin to "scourging" and hopefully they would wake up and realize what they had done.
The dictionary defines scourging as :(from Italian scoriada, from Latin excoriare = "to flay" and corium = "skin") is a whip or lash, especially a multi-thong type used to inflict severe corporal punishment or self-mortification on the back.
Yes Jesus was scourged,,, but he was an adult in his 30's.
Going along with this elders mentality, perhaps he should have been whipped when he got lost at the temple as a boy.
Could you imagine how the story would be if he was whipped instead of just talked to?
My point here is what gives this guy who is
1) an elder
2)the congregation PO
3) a father himself
the right to make a comment like this? Sounds kinda creepy to me. he seems more focused on being right and enforcing the "law" of the WT
society than actually helping the kids. What about the scripture that talks about the Shepard who leaves the flock to go and search for the lost sheep?
OK, maybe the kids were totally unappreciative, but they are teenagers. Maybe helping them, and looking for avenues to assist them would be more productive in the future. But gloating in a weird way that they need to be whipped, does not seem to be a very loving expression from this guy!

Well I finally decided to send my letter to the BOE.
It was a decent letter, I just stated that I no longer cared to be a JW,and that I enjoyed my time
in the org, but it was time to move on.
OK, now the elders want to talk to me, they will not make an announcement until I call them and explain myself.?
My letter was pretty explanatory in itself, it stated that I no longer thought that their religion was the truth.
I'm done with their "mind manipulation" games and I feel that i should just wash my hands of the whole thing.
They know where i stand, and I am done with them.
I recently had a death in my immediate family, and dealing with this BS is something I really don't want to do.
Any comments ?
Am I just leaving the door open for them to keep hounding me or will ignoring them now make my
decision really sink into their thoughts -

** Protecting yourself & loved ones after Obama's election **
by FlyingHighNow ini've read, right here on this very site, that if obama gets elected, this is country is going to hell and that we will all become dominated by a socialist, muslim regime.
this is the only way to protect yourselves from ideas like healthcare for all us citizens.
according to the website where i found these pictures, aluminum foil works the best and it will protect babies, cats, dogs and rabbits as well.

I can't post the picture of the guy with the 7 foot tall aluminum foil hat, but when I saw that all I could think of was
the coneheads from SNL.

questions about a letter.
by lancelink inmy wife has an associate who senses something is wrong with her "spirituality" and last week they had a somewhat deep discussion.
the associate is very much into being a jw, and so is her whole family, she just cannot wrap her mind around the fact that someone .
could question the wt society and their beliefs.

Anyway, the associate sent her a somewhat long letter trying to be encouraging, and after I read it I copied these questions that she asked,
any replies would be appreciated. ( I'm somewhat puzzled by the points she might be trying to make.)
1. The old red Live Forever book made a statement about the purpose of the congregation. It is to preach the good news. When you look at it in that light, that’s why I say we are succeeding in amazing ways as a worldwide organization. More on that later… -

Holy Disfellowshipping batman
by lancelink inwow, .
i heard yesterday that 50 (yes 50) young people have been disfellowshipped within the past month in my .
old circuit.

I find this very hard to believe. Where did you hear it from?
1),My kids keep in contact with a teenager who attends one of the affected halls
2), One of the elders called me up yesterday asking how I was doing, he mentioned that 53 (not 50) teenagers
were DF'ed.
3), My wife heard in conversation this morning that 4 kids from our old hall were now gone, the local needs part was on drinking. -

WOW,
I heard yesterday that 50 (yes 50) young people have been disfellowshipped within the past month in my
old circuit. Northern Illinois, I don't remember the number perhaps 11-A or B ??
Round lake, Palatine, Crystal lake,Cary,Barrington area.
50 kids within 30 days,, I verified this with two different people from 2 different congregations.
I just cannot wrap my mind around this thought, what is going on in the world of JW's that would cause
so many to be DF'ed so soon? -

Did you dress modestly when attending CA's & DA's?
by Quirky1 injust wondering if you were modest in your attire?
i know they always preached modesy but always seen a lot of bling, bright & colorful outfits and way overdone makeup and hair styles.
and they knew it!

I was one of those people that always dressed up for a CA or DA.
One year I was an attendant at Hawthorne race track at Cicero Illinois and i actually wore black
gym shoes instead of dress shoes, man did i feel like a rebel.
Several years later, we went to Cominski park in Chicago, there I was dressed in a suit and tie being an attendant.
Little did I know, but in the afternoon the sun was shining full blast on my section and boy was it HOT.
My whole attitude toward dressing up for the assembly changed that day, I never wore anything greater that dockers and a lite jacket
after that afternoon -

Pro's and Con's of DAing myself.
by lancelink ini have been wrestling with the idea of da'ing myself for close to a year now.
but there is a small area in my subconscious that whispers "this is not a good idea.
i haven't been to a meeting in over six months, no service in seven years.

Thank you for all the opinions, I really appreciated all of them. Some of the comments really made me think about my reason for needing to send the letter, and sending it would only allow me to play right into the elders hands showing them that they still had an influence over me. I never thought about it that way. Years ago (30) before my parents became witnesses we were Catholics, and we just "became" JW's without notifying the church at all. There was no major concerns, or worries about letting anyone know what we were doing. Why should this situation be any different? So I will just burn the letter today, delete it from my computer, and just move on, thank you all again for your concern !

I have been wrestling with the idea of DA'ing myself for close to a year now.
But there is a small area in my subconscious that whispers "this is not a good idea.'
I haven't been to a meeting in over six months, no service in seven years. But I feel that in order to be honest with myself
and others I should make a clean break, write a letter, send it to the PO and be done with it.
Another part tells me that by doing this, I will cause alot of grief for the small amount of people (1) in my entire family who even have
a thought of going to the KH. This person is my Dad, he is alone and lives across the country. he basically has a very thin relationship
with the witnesses. I think because they help him out occasionally with driving, lawn mowing, etc. He goes several times a month to the KH.
If I DA, what could it do to him if later he has to move to my area? my parents were pretty involved in the witnesses years ago. Yet now, most of their friends have died, or moved away, only some of the children are grown up and still attend their old hall. There are also several friends(?) that I have who have not spoken to me in over a year.
So,, in conclusion do I do what I need to do and live with any flak later on, or should I remain invisible and just stay inactive?
I have written a very short, direct letter that is slowly burning a hole in my hard drive and soul.
Staying inactive is starting to seem more dishonest to me every day, I feel that I'm trapped in a very deep hole and I have several ways out,
yet I don't know what to do.!?
