Its all about the celebration with birthdays and christmas and you know it. It's not the cakes that make them wrong.
medicine created the grey area with fractions not witnesses.

it occurred to me that by introducing the concept of accepting blood fractions as being a conscience matter, the society has established a precedent for the disposing of other unfounded teachings.. consider, for example, birthdays:.
on your birthday it is allowable to eat cake.
it is allowable to light a candle or candles.
Its all about the celebration with birthdays and christmas and you know it. It's not the cakes that make them wrong.
medicine created the grey area with fractions not witnesses.

why should it matter what i'm reading?
amanda: what have you been reading?.
amanda: what have you been reading?.
lol nice try but the difference are there. Does it say that her daughter became a new religion that had it right? No. And why isn't she questioning the big stuff like Jehovah and immortality of the soul etc because JWs have these right. it's a false analogy. Come back to me when you can argue whether we have worship of Jehovah right biblically rather than the minutia of gnit picking eagerness over interpretation.

baptisms are usually performed at assemblies.at the conclusion of the baptism talk, the baptism candidates are asked two q.affirmative answers qualifies the candidates as ordained ministers of j.w..we all have seen some candidates as young as 13 years, some as young as 12 years and even some as young as 9 years old.now in the eyes of the wbts these are qualified ordained ministers.. to my way of thinking these ordained ministers should be qualified to give sound advise or council.example,a 17 year old teenage boy has a problem with masturbation and is seeking advise.do you think he would receive sound advise on his masturbation problem from a 9 year old ordained minister of j.w.
(girl).in other religions this ordained minister would be qualified but i don't think a j.w.
is.. bob.
and if a baby is christened at a few months old what decision have they made? yes young baptisms do happen but they are exceptions rather than the norm. Most born in JW's around me got baptised between 16 and 25. To be honest I would rather my children thinking of baptism at 14 than picking out baby clothes because they are one of the thousand teen pregnancies we have now. Children thrown into early adulthood because of a worlds obsession with sexuality.

i had asked my wife, who is in the study phase with a jw sister about the selection of the jws by jc in 1918/1919 time frame and she had actually never heard of that.. the husband of this woman she is studying with has been chomping at the bit to talk to me...well my wife said she will ask him to come show me, using only the bible, how this selection was made...of course she did not clear this request with the dubman before telling me she would do this.. i am guessing he will be there when i get home from work tomorrow, she is also torturing our son with a bs now (her son from a previous marriage).. what sort of reach do you think he will try to make to show this...i am guessing he will try to show 1914 from the daniel/revelation stuff, if he does this i am going to ask him to show 607bce from a non jw source....since i believe it is 586/587 bce as a starting date......i hope to keep him on the 1918/1919 topic, and have some examples of their beliefs from that era to talk about as well.
hi insearch well there is the time apostles thought one of them would live till Jesus's return and not die.
22 Jesus answered, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me." 23 Because of this, the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?"
Its why I showed you the word correcting which itself shows we are liable to make mistakes which will need correcting and having the humbleness to allow the correction from a wrong path. Especially on prophecy interpretation which is a minefield simply because it is so symbolic and yet we have to prepare for the signs and times. I know someone that is a charassmetic christian they are waiting for plagues of locusts and suchlike. We need to be realistic with prophecy that our own eagerness may read it wrong but we have a responsibility to be prepared and not abandon what is written for our help. We must allow that we can get it wrong in our eagerness because only God knows the fullness of everything.
For me religions that are still clinging to massive 1700 year old mistakes and cannot accept any refinement at all have more to worry about, they use scripture not for refinement but to find loopholes to allow them to do things God disaproves of.
At this time I see the Jehovah witnesses as being the closest to bible scripture they do the preaching work they are doers not sayers of the word. which for me is more important than arguing over minutia doing nothing till armageddon passes you by :s

hi insearchoftruth
We are not an island all of God's people including the appostles needed correction when they have slipped up and made mistakes. The greek scriptures are clear on this, differences of opinion on doctrine, arguments, clashes etc always needing correcting happened often, why would this change?
2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
Why would we need correcting if mistakes couldn't be made? I think it is obvious we were getting prepared for needing refinement and correction from our own and satan's pushes to step off from God's ways and so we have God's word and holy spirit guidance to correct us as we need it.

minimus started a thread asking people to prove that jws don't have the truth.... but, instead of proving they don't, i'd like to see someone prove that the witnesses do have the truth.. this is your thread jw apologists....convince me why you have the truth.. to all you apostates and nay-sayers, please allow the apologists to have their say without harrassing them.

oops forgot the war one and preaching.
2 Corinthians 10:3
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.
Mark 16:20
Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
Acts 8:4
Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.
2 Timothy 4:2
Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.
Matthew 24:14
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Mark 16:15
He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.

4 Hear, O Israel: Jehovah our God, is one Jehovah. [a]
Ezekiel 18:4
For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son—both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die.
Ecclesiastes 9:5
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten.
Psalm 37:11
But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.
Matthew 5:5
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of power,
the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD -
3 and he will delight in the fear of the LORD.
He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes,
or decide by what he hears with his ears;
4 but with righteousness he will judge the needy,
with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth.
He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth;
with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.
5 Righteousness will be his belt
and faithfulness the sash around his waist.
6 The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling [a] together;
and a little child will lead them.
7 The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
8 The infant will play near the hole of the cobra,
and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest.
9 They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD
as the waters cover the sea.
10 In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious. 11 In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, [b] from Cush, [c] from Elam, from Babylonia, [d] from Hamath and from the islands of the sea.
12 He will raise a banner for the nations
and gather the exiles of Israel;
he will assemble the scattered people of Judah
from the four quarters of the earth.
3 Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
Here Jesus saying the TRUTH....
John 4:23
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
I answer you scripturally as any witness would as to why they believe what they do.

my jw elder friend said to me that the nwt is the best translation of the bible and that scholars have said as much.
is this true and is it the best?
are there scholars who disagree?.
lol jojonow tell me what qualifications the early translators had? you know the ones that rendered John 1:1c 'God' when actual SCHOLARS NOW agree with NWT saying it should be either a god, divine or godlike.
That we have modern and better scholars is moot when we also have the problem of theologically driven text which means putting YHWH back in hebrew scriptures will not happen in modern translation among other points where centuries of theology means they cannot make more honest versions of the bible.
look at 'torture stake' a perfectly acceptable honest rendition of the greek word stauros but why don't any bibles put it instead of Cross? THEOLOGY completely. They couldn't put anything else but cross because of theology.
Where there is apparent choice, theology drives the choosing in EVERY bible.
The problem I have with people dissing the 237 times Jw's use jehovah in greek scriptures. Firstly lets discount the 50 or so times that are just quotes from hebrew scriptures, for me it is perfectly acceptable that quotes from hebrew scriptures should also use YHWH if they do.
I do not need Jehovah in greek scriptures too show Jesus is not God scripturally since hundreds of times Jesus is kept totally separate to God Putting YHWH God's name in the bible is not a big deal since it is already there. They haven't done it loads and I know they could have done it in many more places.
What we do know is possibly around the time of writing or not long afterwards YHWH was getting more and more of an issue with men in usage. which is for me that is enough of a reason to show this could be all down to men and nothing to do with God's intention in the greek as well. The precedent is set in the hebrew scriptures, showing that men could be influenced to stop using the biblically inspired word YHWH God's own name in the hebrew changing it deliberately could also fall out in the greek. IMO This would have been discussed scripturally by the writers it is just to big a change if it was meant... 7000 too 0, nope to big.

keep it simple if possible........i like the ice core samples.........thanks, this was not my big issue but i may be able to use it.......oompa.
feel free to direct me to another thread btw...... or maybe i should read the second page of olins thread!.
hi bohm sorry about the delayed reply.
Did you see the big bang? what proof do you have of the Big bang? Do you know with proof that time started with the big bang?
The bible tells me there was a flood, I klnow we have a racial memories of both flood and God across the world.
People like to deal in absolutes so the newest idea becomes a 'fact' rather than just a possibility unless proved otherwise.
With both bible readers and those that prefer evolution they are both having to do the same thing. which is fit the evidence to their framework of belief.
We have a planet that is nearly 70% covered in water so a flood is a reasonable belief in my book.

does anyone here have any catholic experience or have friends who are catholic?
although i'm wiccan all the way, i'm still checking things out and would like input about it..
You see burn you illustrate one of the things I cannot get past, using carvings in worship is completely against God's laws yet as a RC you use them happily?
Habakkuk 2:18
"Of what value is an idol, since a man has carved it? Or an image that teaches lies? For he who makes it trusts in his own creation; he makes idols that cannot speak.
