Why JWs should soft-pedal the "Divine Name"

this is prompted by reniaa who claims that one of the things that jws have right is the name jehovah.. you know how if you're trying to convert someone to be a jw, you put your best foot forward and try to keep the controversial stuff that might "stumble" them on the back burner?

(like say, mother's day or when i was a kid, pinatas?

) well, that's how i categorize the whole topic of the divine name.

And I am grateful to them :) they were the main Christian faith for a long time! having total control over bible access, It's good we as average people have access to the bible now, not something catholic clergy wanted and also did not allow for hundreds of years.

Yes I was aware "Jehovah" was originally from a catholic monk who decided which vowels to use, it's the oldest english version of God's name much the same way Jesus is the oldest English version of Jesus which also is a lot different from it's original prounouciation.

explain how jesus chose the "slave" in 1919?.

how can they answer?.

Erm just a minor point in response but Jehovah's name was replaced by the Word "Lord" Which most of christianity now uses and thats what Jw's are not using by restoring Jehovah name.

Maybe a religion that has replaced God's name with "Lord" in 7000 places and believe in a triune God and so making jesus God rather than God's son should maybe be more worried by this scripture?

Does the way God has allowed his "4 consonants" to be handled seem just a wee bit sloppy to you?

hmmm I did sort of address it, I think it's important we have extremely old manuscripts of the bible to refer too, so men's own additions/subtractions can be seen and dealt with like the scripture added by overzealous catholics to support the trinity in one of the john books i think.

Maybe the simple point is... once written God is messing with his own "allowing man free-will" rule to directly influence what man then does to it! Only making sure as I said above we have the originals to use as cross references and then upto us how we use that knowledge.

Or alternatively he did allow his name to be obscured but not lost but now that begs the question why allow a Christian religion to use his name in this time? Is this sloppiness or maybe something done with a deliberate reason?

Taking apart the Memorial

a new poster inspired me to take a look at the memorial talk and the way that the witnesses honor (dishonor) jesus' memory.

i had mentioned that the form is, from this christian's point of view, an abomination.

the participant is encouraged to look and not partake.

you make a good point and one that hasn't been touched upon and is the biggest difference.

you have been deprived of an important community event that would help you bond with God

When you and most people of the other christian faiths take communinon you are taking communion with your God!

But with witnesses even the Annointed ones we are taking communion with our King and saviour but not with our God.

I will argue the fact that it is a strong community event for Jws and personally i did feel that connection with others on memorial night as I said before it's more of a humble reverential feel to it, deeply respectful.

I don't think I could ever goto another churches communion because I will never see jesus as God I love him but Jehovah has that place in my heart.

Are you sure you aren't just going back to what is "comfortable" after a rather nasty experience outdoors?

No, at first I wasn't sure why I wanted to go back but recent weeks on here have shown me it's because I can't give up jehovah, you said it yourself in a different post, the trinity is just too hard a block for many of us to leap over! and also maybe you can understand the feeling because it would be similar to how you would feel if you couldn't take communion.

Losing jehovah for me would be like that because however much someone can say to me "you gain 3 Gods in one with the trinity", the way Jehovahs name is hidden and the scriptures using his name changed it does become a loss, I was brought up to love the bible and I read in a bible with jehovah's name in it over 7000 times, So I grew up with an indepth knowledge of jehovah you can only get reading his name in all the scriptures and stories. I have a love for him as strong as any other Christian has for Jesus I finally understand that now, and though I love Jesus too and nearly as much, jehovah has first place in my heart.

Something I Never Understood About The Importance of Meeting Attendance

why is it soooo important to be a regular meeting attender when you can read the publication simply, at home?

they don't want you elaborating on the material.

they don't encourage doing extra research.

here's a question... what is the history of people going to church services? Have christians always done it?

my blood is boiling.. jcanon has as much right to post here and express his opinions as anybody else.. if you don't like his posts then don't bother commenting.. if you find his posts boring than don't bother commenting.. if you don't agree with him, then say why with evidence.. if you want to back him up then say why with evidence.. this whole "who hates **** or finds **** crap is really just descending to the level of the kindergarten playground.. everybody here has the right to be heard listened to or ignored - but not put under a spotlight of disdain and disapproval from other posters.. if i had been mocked or put down when i first came here, i would never have come back.. jc lives on this earth just like all of us.

if he destroys his credibility or repels you that is his own doing.

just don't recruit supporters of your own camp against him.. be fair to everybody, and they will be fair to you.. this was in response to the thread "who else finds jcanon's posts boring?.

I do agree with this topic but I think the moderators for this site should remove topics that refer negatively in their headers to a particular poster so victimization is stopped before it can start.

lol it just accurred to me if jesus came and found they were the only religion that were honouring his father by name and not a roman triune God, Given the way jesus feels about his father I could see why he would pick them faulty practises and all

I was thinking of my childhood Memorials, I did know and see two annointed who partook but it didn't seem odd to me that they ate and the rest didn't. one was male the other female and I have to say they were both two of the sweetest gentlest souls you could hope to meet.

Lol I do remember thinking as probably most witness kids do at one point or other that I should partake and I was one of the annointed but at 7 year's old you erm don't have the courage to see what would happen if you ate lol and annointed or not i'm pretty sure my mum would not let me have drunk the wine hehe

The donkey one is a cool story :) I used to like tha more obscure bible stories that were in the book as a child, anyone remember the copper serpent one that moses made so people could look at it after been bitten by snakes to be cured?

I was intrigued by the story so looked it up in the bible and found a bible king had to destroy the copper snake many years later because in typical human fashion people had named it and started to worship it.

I was a JW child that SHOCK HORROR liked this book any others like me? and which was your favourite stories?
