Great anology...It is what they are told! Just look at the Tacoma Parking scandal. I asked my wife if I were to rent a facility to do a show, and knew that the contract stated you couldn't charge for parking, would she think it was wrong -- She said of course! Then I filled in the blanks of the Tacoma parking scandal, and she froze for a moment, then said they don't charge for parking so she wouldn't know. I said but they openly lied about thier intentions and then threatened to look to another city if thier efforts were hampered. She didn't say it was OK for them to lie, but she didn't say it was wrong either. In fact anytime I say that I know it's OK for them to lie about certain things, she never denies it!

Making God's Commands Arbitrary
by milligal inthere's a philosophical theology behind the premise that people who blindly obey (a.k.a.
'sheeplike') have no inner sense of morality or ethics.
take for exampe the idea of shunning, jw's shun those that they are told to shun.

god's organization...
by kzjw inis that term blaphemy, or is it idolotry?
if i'm an ubm, but know that "though shall have no other gods before me" i am spiritually wndangering myself?
my mate tries to defuse this debate by saying the organization exists in the form of angels, but were she to spew that bs to an elder, i'm sure she'd get some serious counselling.

I say this to say that I'm not sure I'll return to sunday talks after she returns from the DC, I just have a hell of a lot of trouble with that "channel of communication" thing, & I know that one day I'm gonna make a scene.
Your thoughts?

Women being in subjection...a sore subject
by milligal ini was raised jw and of course the whole theory that a man is the head and the woman must respect her husband and be in subjection to his authority was ingrained in me from a young age.
my mother, (oddly enough) chose the jw religion, dragged my father in kicking and screaming (he later served as an elder for 17 years) and she complained constantly about men being in control and her pains as a woman in subjection.
now, i already have a good idea about my mother's problems.

Really good question...sometimes i consider faking my way into baptism & becoming an elder, just to impose my will...but I never wanted to be the "Head" anyway - I wouldn't mind getting a little now & then, but that's another thread! lol!

Are Witnesses Sexually Normal?
by minimus injws are obsessed with sex and sexual sins.
the elders are specifically told what classification a sexual sin falls into.
touching the breasts, genitals, looking at porn, looking at various types of pornography, kissing, petting-----you name it----it is technically classified so that the elders know which charge they can hit you with judicially.. even if you're married, the watchtower disapproves of certain consensual sex acts.

As one who really liked sex before I got married to my JW wife, let me tell you how much they stifle anything good about sex!
Year 1: It's all great, I have the mate who wants to explore her desires...Years 2-4; she begins study, we're still cruisin' sexually, but I notice her interest declining(too many hours @ work, so I thought) Year 5-7; the decline of me getting any oral, because she's uncomfortable with it(I love you anyway, here's some oral4u) Year 8-12; "Oh, don't do that it's wrong" -- "You're bad" Year 13-present; "No, I just can't -- It's not the WT..."
I've had dry D&*% for the last 9 years of my marriage, though I've had some offers & remained true, it sure as hell ain't easy! I'm getting to old to be missionary only, so yeah JW's are exteremely abnormal when it comes to sex. They use thier twisted scriptures out of context, ignore the Song of Solomon and can lie to thier partners about the reasons why they can't or won't, because it's OK to lie to keep your spritual integrity. Jackasses!

Can we get a Newbie head count?
by kzjw ini haven't been here long...so is it just me or are the long standing jwd members noticing an influx of newbies?

Why can't my wife vote?
by kzjw inneedless to say, the public talks have re-enforced the no vote doctrine during the primaries and surely more will follow as nov draws near.
but the wifey, never really interested in politics before, can't help but take notice of how important this election is.
i asked her if her non-jw grandma voted adn she replied yes, so naturally i played the "do it for her" card.

I asked her if her non-JW grandma voted adn she replied yes, so naturally I played the "do it for her" card. Of course being counter to the borg's orders, she went into the JW-stare mode(I really hate that $hit), so I backed off. I'm remembering JWD advice of being gentle, but I know she's close to crossing over from the "dark side" on this one...
I'm looking for input

Are all congregations equal?
by kzjw ini've not posted much, but as i've lurked here trying to find the answers about the wt lies, it only re-enforced my disdain for it's cult like properties.
i've read the horror stories of some who've been trapped in the "jw-multi gen" families trying to extricate themselves from the borg, and truly have empathy for "these ones".. i have also attended a couple of months worth of sun meetings with my wife (i listen to the talk, then walk during the wts) and as you've seen from previous posts, if the speaker lies, i will point it out to him after the meeting.
but yesterday in a conversation with my wife i shared with her what i read on jwd, compared to how her congregation operates.

Those are interesting observations, but now for the second part -- I still despise the FDS! So I'm wondering if my admission to my wife that it's not as bad where she is compared to what I've been telling her, how do I extricate her from the BORG?

I have also attended a couple of months worth of Sun meetings with my wife (I listen to the talk, then walk during the WTS) and as you've seen from previous posts, if the speaker lies, I will point it out to him after the meeting. But yesterday in a conversation with my wife I shared with her what I read on JWD, compared to how her congregation operates. My conclusion? They don't match up! Sure they have over-zealous, luke warm and "just here cause I haven't found anything better" JWs, but I haven't been privy to any major horror stories. Though not all of the "friends" carry on conversations with me, there are friends young and old who almost seem to gravitate toward me with genuine pleasantness, despite the fact that they know I'm not down with, nor do I tolerate the WTS in any form (they've asked why I leave the WTS meeting, and I've told them). When we were having marital problems 6 months ago, the elder(who was aware of the problems) stood down at my request in a private meeting, though he could likely have held a JC and persecuted my wife for her actions. According to what I read from some on JWD, most edlers wouldn't have hesitated to do so.
Also, as I spoke with my wife about the "No higher education" issue, she assured me that she knew it was important for our kids to further thier education. Additionally, the presiding elder of this cong holds 2 degrees, his daughter holds her Masters and several of the 20-something married couples are either moving toward or have degrees. I told her about the post on JWD from the young lady who was persuaded to destroy her husbands memorial flag, and the elder whose doubts over the dropping the extra meeting brought him to JWD just days ago...She seemed to have empathy for those stories and then told me that she doesn't take all that she reads form the WT as "Law". Needless to say it was very promising to hear this news, though it puzzled me, until my wife brought up the issue of race. Her opinion is that non-african-american congregations are not as "loving", and by being less personal, maybe that is the root of some of the horror stories here on JWD.
So I guess part of the dialog for this post poses the question;
Is there a difference among white congregations compared to african-american or latino congregations?
