  Why a college education is bad

  at our recent butt numbing, mind dulling, sleep inducing district assembly on saturday morning there.

  was a talk where the speaker said that we are going to make a list that shows the contrast between.

  jehovah's organization and satan's organization.

  That's because college is an opportunity for you to help yourself. College is what you make of it. If you're looking to get drunk and laid, then that's what you get (with extra effort depending on who you are). If you want to do well and improve your thinking, then you can do that as well.

  These governing body members must think that college courses are like congregation meetings, where you're the passive recipient of propaganda.

  As someone who actually step foot onto a classroom, I can say it's much better than that.

  This is the best part about this forum. Hearing about all the scary nut-job governing body members. I wonder if the new guys are even worse. They probably are, now if only we can get some good stories about them.

  I have a vague childhood memory of John Booth speaking at a circuit assembly. It wasn't an impressive talk, considering the only part I remember was him grumbling about junkfood and hotdogs.

  As for Gangas, I remember a former Bethelite comparing him to Yoda from Star Wars.

However, it seems to me that there is an easier way to debate the issue. Why not show them that the so-called day-for-a-year-rule is unwarranted. The society's literature only gives Numbers 14:34 and Ezekiel 4:5,6 as proof of this rule, but we could easily show how this is bogus and how this really originates with the Seventh-Day Adventist tradition.

  Their commitment to this rule is just as important as their historical claims, but it's easier to disprove. The problem with debating about 607 B.C.E. and the archaeological is that most of that information is too inaccessible for the average Witness, who is usually not in the position to understand such evidence. I think refuting the day-year rule would be easier and once you see that you can't get 2520 years ending in 1914, that would undermine their need to commit to 607.

  What do you think? Don't you think it's easier?

  1. bethel in ny suspect high level apostate, cant identify it but know its there.

  2. major organizational changes about to start rolling out, one is changes to the "service committee" and titles, po to be done away with, thats all i know for now.

  was told that if you are the sort of person that cant handle changes, you wont stay in the org for long.

  JWs and Star Trek...

  one part of my experience with the jw's was that many of the elders in my congreagtion were die hard into star trek...i figured it was isolated to that one kh, but as i went to different ones, i noticed it was a lot of them.

  one elder explained his fandom as: "it makes me think of the new system.

  we will travel to other planets when the earth is full, and colonize the galaxy.

  When I was younger, I used to be a fan of the Next Generation series and a little bit of Deep Space Nine. Now days, I can't help but find most of these shows really silly. Sure, Jolene Blalock and Jerry Ryan are hot, but not enough to make me sit through an episode of those series. Now whenever I look at those old episodes, I tend to cringe.

  I guess Witnesses liked the shows, since everyone had that clean-cut Wesley Crusher look.

  if you are an elder who frequents this site, please let me know.. i am trying to connect (completely anonymously - your privacy is assured) with as many elders as i can.

  i know that there are hundreds of elders in the same position as myself (have had our awakening and have come to realize that "the truth" is a sham).. i encourage you to continue to serve as an elder and for you to work together with other like minded elders as a collective force for true good.

  there is much we can do from the inside to help the cause.. there are thousands and indeed millions of kind and honest hearted people whose only crime is that they have allowed themselves to be deceived and are still active jws.

  I hate to be a cynic, but doesn't this sound a bit naive? You need more than a handful of elders to make any impact. You'll need circuit overseers, district overseers, and especially Bethelites (preferably high-ranking Bethelites). And even if you can gather a big enough crowd, all the organization has to do is have mass disfellowshipping, as in disfellowshipping congregations. I don't see how any attempt to destroy the organization will succeed. It's probably better to let the organization dissolve itself over time. I think this organization will disappear within the next hundred years.

  getting over it - how long does that take?

  in december i started reading things and thinking with an open mind (for the first time in my life).

  i'm still discovering things daily that irritate me about the wts.

  i've been to about half a dozen meetings since march.

  Well, if you read the thousands of posts on this forum, many people never get over it, even if they've been out of the organization for decades! Even when they've left the organization for so long, their life is still all about the organization and it's prohibitions. Of course, many of these posters say they're "helping people out" or "providing counsel for those who have left," but this is usually a self-serving excuse to reminisce and obsess over every hurtful memory had of times as a Witness.

  I for one, do not want to define my identity solely as a former Jehovah's Witness. I want to follow the example of the wiser people who leave and never look back.

  my wife excitedly told me that she talked to the wife of an elder that just came back from.

  the special training for elders in upper state new york and that the elders are being told .

  to go back to their congregations and to get them ready for the great tribulation.. i said to her that is great news !!!!

  Common guys, let's not jump to conclusions.

  After all, this thread was made because someone's wife's friend's husband supposedly heard some news from a meeting in New York.

  Doesn't this suggest to anybody that this may be only a rumor based on a misunderstanding?
