"High Stakes" is exactly right! At stake is the relationship between you and this girl. MOST important are your feelings for each other, yes? You must act accordingly. El corazon = the heart. Deep in your heart you will find direction, be patient and ready. After understanding your feelings for one another - Focus on common ground. You said you have similar interests - pursue them. Be open minded, trust your instincts and your conscience. La Verdad = the truth. If you are interested in learning the truth of things, tell her that AND give some examples. Use clear and consistent examples from any topic(not necessarily religion based)in order to demonstrate your degree of effort, detail, time, success, or failure in pursuing La verdad de las cosas, or the truth of things. And I urge you and others to persistently seek la verdad pura y simple (the pure and simple truth). How can you lose?

Draw pictures if you are inclined. Within the endless talks are metaphors, similes, hyperbole, exaggeration, etc... that are stimulating to intuitive right-brain functions and seem easily expressed through drawing pictures/symbols. I find some apt or appealing examples speakers use to illustrate "the way things ought or ought not be". I especially like the warfare comparisons; being a guy. I finally found some time to practice and expand my drawing skills. Later, I analyze my drawings which sprang forth from my perceptions at the time and I'll look up certain Bible verses I wrote in the margins. On this forum I see colorful, playful, and amusing names given to this cartoon of a religious organization. I'm sure everyone can sketch funny, happy, angry, meaningful, mysterious.... images associated with something triggered during Brother Bob Loblaw's next talk on xy&z. It came to my attention that my drawings may have been "a distraction" to some young kids sitting near by and I was asked to reconsider my style of note taking. Next time... Larger paper, and maybe some colored markers?

some quirks of the DC talks...
by metaspy inhere is a run down of some special things i noticed at the district convention.. i probably took better notes now than when i used to go as a jw.. however, my notes now are mostly "stupid" things that they say on stage.

I went to the DC with a purpose. My intent was simply to learn about the Bible. I usually write down the chapters, verses and the beginning or some part of the scripture because the pace can be brisk at times. Some quirks I noted: #1. Varying degrees of sin were mentioned and I wondered what false prophets or prophecy is considered? #2. speaker - on contributions given for the World Wide Work - "...doing things you're not realizing." and "...along with other highlights...". #3. "Keep Yourselves In God's Love", the speaker said,"...is proof that the Faithful and Discrete Slave provides food at the right time." #4. "Churches change...update, modernize..." - speaker #5. "You're different" used 7 times and "You're unique" used 3 times by speaker to attendees in last talk according to my tally. In conclusion, It seemed the Bible was the parley on a plate of WTS/GB claimed Spirit Directed Truth and Knowledge teaching(s) spanning over 100 years presented to consumed while the parley was merely an adornment. Somehow the garnishment is supposed to make the rotten eggs, rancid meat, and putrefied fruit seem more appetizing? In 100 years of preaching the Kingdom Message, there must be an abundance of fine examples of faithful ones who took the lead in Jehovah's Only Spiritual Directed Organization on earth. I ought not be critical of any in those spirit appointed authorities today, thus the same must be true for all those in the same positions in the past like C.T. Russell, huh?

Talked to a woman about her custody battle tonight
by B_Deserter inshe messaged me on youtube about my video, really wanted to talk to me about jws.
i called her tonight and we talked about the jws and how her husband is trying to keep her kids away from her.
it's basically all the same stuff we've heard from every jw/non-jw custody battle.

I am new father and I have put off discussing with my JW wife what the WTS/GB/lawyers/top level policy makers... ATTEMPT to hide from the R&F and the general public... until today, concerning who allocates the donation funds and for what purpose. Simply - If I donate $1 at a convention, how do I know what that $$$ is being used for? I talked about the 2007 out of court settlements and she had no clue as to the validity of what I was saying. Skepticism - I love it! because she agreed to look at some information on the court cases so she can check the sources and comment more intelligently. It is an uncomfortable topic for me, and anyone I would think, to talk about. As a responsible adult with a conscience, I feel duty bound to talk about it and keep talking about it. My wife reflexively said something to the effect of - one must trust in what Jehovah is doing through the WTS. I am confident in her ability to recognize truth when it is made available to her. Best and warmest feelings to the woman and her child... I'm not clear if the husband is suspected of the abuse or if any possible abuse is going on while the child is in his custody by someone else?

Amy in IL I'm with you. I want to say "confirmation hypothesis" is the term... a psych. prof. used way back in a class I took - a sort of self fulfilling prophecy. Life is filled with endless challenges, in my experience. Blessings and curses are the last thing I'm thinking about when I'm in the thick of things. My mom lost 2 dear friends to cancer and goes ballistic with the "mini-miracles" reasoning. Knowledge is power and to me the GB looks weaker in this Information Age. The cost of living - going up in price. The cost of information - going down in price. Thanks for the info.

Has the mass exodus begun?
by kool aid man06 init's truly exciting to see all of the "rapid fire" changes taking place in the watchtower org.
buildings are being sold, kingdomhalls are "compressing", bethelites are being sent home, watchtower format changing to public issues and private issues, more and more judicial committee meetings being held for apostasy.
(the watchtower is dead it just hasn't fallen over yet!

I remember asking my wife to point out examples of others at meetings who were in a situation like me (a "studying non-witness). She pointed to a few examples of guys who were in my situation at one time and then became baptized... no new examples though. One of the brothers I was studying with pointed out a new guy at a meeting once... that was the last time I saw the new guy. I knew a guy who was studying and attending meetings sporadically for a month or two and that was it. I went to the one day assembly, Memorial, and maybe 2 meetings so far this year. Lately, I've been pressured to go more often. If I do, I'm going to examine more closely the numbers and back stories of those in attendance. My feeling is that I'm perceived as a 50/50 prospect at best and that the children and adolescents are the WTSs last best hope for sustainability. I'm interested in teaching my child HOW to think, not WHAT to think.

I went over the 2 paragraphs with my JW wife this morning. I was not raised religious and I agreed to "study" what the WT offers. I excelled in school and have 2 years experience college & tech school. This video was appealing to me on many levels. As I prepare to attend my 3rd convention my goal is to be more open, assertive, and transparent in my thoughts, feelings, and actions regarding WT materials. Often when I raise a WTS question, comment, concern... with my wife lately, I've been getting "it's in/from the Bible" as a generic response. 1 John 4:1 (I think it was) from the Bible can be directly applied to the GB, and don't we all agree that the Bible is not apostate! Quickly - Was Jesus the Greatest Apostate Who Ever Lived??? from the Jewish point of view?

Atheism - The next and final logical step
by sam_sane_now init is with great pleasure that i have found this forum, being an ex jw myself.
after leaving when i was 17 i still held some belief in the notion of a "god," even though i didn't believe in jw teachings, then when i was about 21 and thought about it properly; i realised that evolution is the only real alternative to all religion.
when you get to this point its very liberating to see that its not just jw's that are clouding and brainwashing peoples minds, but all religion, whether organised or not.

Perhaps there is some middle ground somewhere here. Maybe Darwin was a fraud. Maybe the meaning and understanding of God today differs from what it meant and was understood as long ago. These topics get deep.

I feel relieved to get some heartfelt feedback from others with experiences in connection with JWs and the WTS. After a year of "studying" I made my intentions clear that my decision to pursue baptism would be answered from my heart...in time. The two brothers were stumbling over each other to warn me of my hearts possible treachery. My wife was raised a JW, was DFed at one point for a time, and has been back for some time now. I want to be correct in my thinking, feeling, and acting. I value freedom, knowledge, responsibility, love, truth, and justice. I want to live in peace, balance, and harmony with the Universal Laws of Creation. And I want these things for my wife and child too. The information I'm learning online about the WTS has moved me to act. Everyone is responsible for themselves to the degree of their involvement and their level of understanding. In good conscience I don't see how I could ever be a JW at this time. I ask myself, who is responsible for all this putrid fruit? The Governing Body calls all the shots as I understand the hierarchy, thus I hold each of them accountable and whoever else is or has set policy from the top. I emphasize that my questions, concerns, doubts, challenges, examinations are directed towards and the result of the GB. My wife has at times defended the men of the GB whose names she doesn't know. Anyone see those Skip and Bobby pioneering videos on youtube? There's so much to get riled up about, it's a wonderful change of pace to be able to watch a video like these with my wife who did find them funny when she realized they were lighthearted. That was some clever JW humor. I appreciate the personal stories and info here. Thanks.
