  Actually, that is erroneous thinking and is what happens when "the slave" supercedes Christ's role and teaches that following its edicts or rules is what is most important. Christians who try to make themselves righteous by following of many 'rules' or laws are cursed/doomed. - Galatians 3:11. Christ death had no meaning if man could acheive salvation by following law. - (For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die. - Gal 2:21 NLT) Also, it was the pharisees who tried to make rule after rule and approached worship in a legalistic manner, and for that they were rejected by Christ.

  This WTS has no problem in contriving tons of rules for everyday life that witnesses must obey. And obedience to the 'slave' is repeatedly crammed down their throats. This is how they have arrogated the role of Christ for themselves, since salvation for JWs is found in following the rules of the GB and not in faith.

  help friends urgently needed

  ive had doubts for years had my mind opened and over the past year have decided enough is enough.

  sick of the lies and double standards no longer believing in what ive been told cant even step into a kingdumb hall i just feel like screaming ive decided to d/a, best decision ive ever made a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders no more pretending to others finally free.

  the announcement is being made this week.

  Were You Joyful When A Meeting Had To Be Canceled?

  i was never thrilled to have a meeting during inclement weather.

  if it was seriously snowing and the weatherman suggested to stay in because of the conditions, i rarely went to the meeting.

  why take a chance, right?

  Yes, I loved it when the meeting got cancelled in winter weather. I hated bundling my kids up and taking them out of the nice warm house to go to the meeting. Here in Boston area it gets very cold in winter. So staying home was a treat. We would have hot cocoa and watch a disney movie with the kids. A great family time. Because it can get so bad here, in winter we usually had 2 or 3 cancellations.

  *cringes*** that just brought back an awful memory of me trying to make a bookstudy in a blizzard with my infant daughter bundled up and fighting the wind and snow after coming home from a long day at work. I HATED THAT!! But since I was hounded by elder so-in-so for missing meetings, I ended up doing stupid ish like that. GOD, I'm glad that part of my life is over with!

  I agree with purps and choosing life... pickings are slim in the org, it can be hard for a woman in her 20's let alone 40's. I've known many a sister that waited and waited, years - but are still single to this day

  Maybe being a Witness wasnt so bad?

  before i became a witness i was a shallow egotistcal happy go lucky married man.

  i owned 2 houses which were rented out.i lived rent free in london working for a rich arab-.

  due to being a witness i quit a job and a lifestyle i will never have again.. i now live in sweden with the same wife and have a kid- i can think critically.my good friends are those i met on the ministry (but never converted)-i have good friends from my congregation in england.

  When I think back to my childhood, the ONLY time my entire family was together including my grandma was at the 4 day conventions. I got to be around my cousins, aunts, mom, etc... It felt wonderful and I still have fond memories of fruit bags, Swiss miss pudding and my grandma whom I loved dearly (now deceased). We never had family reunions and of course didn't celebrate any holidays, so to me this was the one big chance to be around everyone I loved. Up until my teens, I never wanted to miss one.

  When I became an adult, and understood and saw the manipulation and pressure for what is was - those warm fuzzies vanished.

  BTW - The "was-there-anything-good-about-being-a-witness" threads pop up from time to time. This is not the first nor will be the last. People are people and the resulting emotional state of anyone exiting a cult can run the gamut from severly bitter, to depressed, to just thankful to have finally learned the truth. Ex-witnesses, just like anyone else leaving a high control group, try to make sense of that experience. They wonder how in the world they could have stayed so long or joined in the first place, was there anything good, etc..etc...

  I believe it to be a very subjective and personal healing process, so I really don't understand why people feel the need to reject someone else's experiences as crazy, insane, or wrong. It's just how they feel. That's their reality for now. And even that may change as one experiences more of their life w/o the witnesses.

  The BIG thing always seems to be 'What will the neighbors think?'

  Well I'll tell you what they'll think!

  When I was single living in a flat the neighbours told me they were glad when they saw a woman go to my place because they were beginning to think I was queer with all the guys coming and going.

  That made me laugh...

  yes.. always a pleasant surprise. But then you had a lot of overconcerned friends that were offering you the time of another congregation where you can make up the missed meeting. Yeah right!
