Another book that is a bit more accessible and shorter is called Last Days Madness by Gary DeMar. (I would think exJWs would just enjoy the title!) I think there are some differences, but much that is similar to the Parousia in his book.

Timing Christ's Presence
by Ultimate Reality instartfragment.
obviously, this is an ongoing discussion.
in a past post (which was so popular, there were 0 replies) i mentioned a book by james stewart russell: the parousia: the new testament doctrine of our lord's second coming, which was written in 1878. the book is a discussion of the new testament as it relates to the subject of the parousia or christ's presence.

Armageddon and Inward sins
by AuntBee indo jws believe that one will be destroyed at armageddon for inward sins, such as lack of love, unforigiveness, doing a 'spiritual' work from wrong motives ('to be seen of men'), lusful thoughts?
sins of omission, like not caring for the poor, not praying for one's enemies or rulers, not thinking of others more often and more highly than yourself?.
are some sins higher up on the sinfulness list, in that only some are 'mortal' sins, and with others, you can still get by?.

Yet what profit would it bring us
If our motives were not pure?"
Wow, that's heavy. I"m not sure if I've ever had a pure motive in my life. One completely free of self-interest. Having pure motives is a tall order for us humans.

Cawshun,
I concur with One Flew OVer the Cuckoo's Nest. It's so eerie, and really stays with you. DId you ever see the lady who played Nurse Ratchet on Deep Space Nine?
FOr people that like horror movies, i find nothing scarier than really BAD people. Like:
Misery
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (very old, but has Bette Davis. really worth seeing. very creepy)

I truly believe the WT contributed to my depression

I just had to ask about this comment WTWizard made on this thread: "You will be afraid of the Christmas decorations" I actually THOUGHT i was noticing this, with a JW friend of the fam, that comes over a lot. But i put it out of my mind, because i thought, no , that can't be true. I know they don't celebrate Christmas, but i just can't believe he doesn't want to be in the most decorated room with the tree. I'm just imagining that......

Some people may prefer to send a written thank you note, which will obviously take longer to get there, than a PM. :)

Why is it important for us to keep telling our stories
by Lady Lee ini realize not everyone here was sexually abused while they were children in the wts.
but many of us were victims.
but many more of us were victims of other kinds of abuse; physical, emotional and definitely spiritual abuse.

Ode To JWD, from an outsider:
Due to family friends I have come to know and love, I began to research Jehovahs Witnesses. While researching on the internet, i stumbled across JWD. I was already quite familiar with the "unique" doctrines, but I didn't have a clue about the practices that can be so devastating to families, and one's autonomy and mental/spiritual health. IT is perplexing to me that these issues have not received more publicity, and I've already explored some local avenues/opportunities for getting this info more exposure.
I have read many threads and many bios, and have felt anger and sadness. Not being an exJW, I almost felt like I shouldn't be here, like I was crashing someone's support group. But I always felt welcome, and even enjoyed a few PMs with some neat people. This is such a unique group (born-ins, UBMs, faders, atheists, agnostics, BACs, etc), but all share that experience of being "touched by the tentacles of the Watchtower" as KoolAidman puts it.
I'm amazed at the level of intelligence displayed here. You all deserve a book deal! Thanks for sharing; it has definitely illumined me, and moved me!

The list of rules! I have actually thought it would be interesting to pass that out to anyone who takes some of their literature, like when they're out at the tables.

I love that question, as I'm on my fifth one! LOL! My answer is................no. Love them? yes, always. Like them is a different story. I dont' think they like me either, but that's ok.
I agree with Caliber, though, that thankfully they do grow out of it. I find that going to college/moving out works wonders for their maturity and our relationship.

No money, purse or extra sandals either! And don't stop to gab with anyone on the way. (previous verse: Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and greet no one along the road.)
Although I am reminded of the time that a pair of JW ladies a few years ago did literally shake the dust off their feet after my visit with them! It was kind of startling!
