Hello,
Brits rule supreme because:
Imagination - The Brits have far more interesting and equivalent words for the US ‘brain-dead’. For example, thundering dunderhead, planky-bonse, Squonka, mole-brain, Glaswegian.
Though most women over 60 in the inner cities, in a sort of tribal union, all wear the same pale-buff raincoats, similar plastic rain-hats and ‘sensible’ shoes, and all look like Joan Plowright, they still manage to have sons who are SAS hit men or Yorkshire cricketer’s.
Confidence - Take for example your common or garden down the pub Englishman. Totally out of shape physically, skin like last weeks boiled chicken, pendulous gut issuing from a brown tea-shirt that was once white, trousers held up by prayers and now cutting ridges very slightly above the pubic region. His lank hair washed last month, necessary or not, gaping black holes where teeth once were. He leans against the bar gloriously displaying his bare and hairy belly and noticing a girl, who is obviously a world-class model, with a PHD, and definitely to the manor born, he winks at her expecting her to be impressed. Now that is confidence!
Fortitude - Millions of Brits live in tiny homes that are the replica of their neighbors homes, on huge housing estates which are replicas of other huge housing estates and still manage to have nothing in common with anybody else on the planet.
I am sure E’Man and Duncan can heartily add to this list.

Sooty and Jehovah
by Duncan ina couple of years ago we took our youngest to see sooty.
anyone from the uk will instantly know who i mean sooty is a little glove-puppet bear (?
) who never speaks but has managed to turn himself, over the last 50 years or so, into a british national institution.. sooty has a couple of friends sweep the dog (always my favourite) and soo and various others who appear in his show.

Duncan,
Yes, a powerful analogy. The WTS conditioning closely follows the pattern of political indoctrination but with a far more subtle undertone.
I was reading the history of a Cuban XJW recently who was victim of the Cuban Socialist indoctrination of the 50's & 60's, and poor fellow, slipped the bounds of that Island only to fall into an even more practiced quagmire of slogans with the WTS. He drew very similar parallels between the two systems.
As to the extent of your little cameo, well as Alan noted, it does goes right to the top.
I was at a meeting a few years ago when an admittedly frail Milton Henschel was asked to close in prayer.
He said, ‘Our father Jehovah, we approach you through your Organization…’. He quickly corrected himself, but such a slip was one of Freudian proportions.
Speaking of Watford, is the Watford Rep. Theatre still there? Spent many an evening in my youth there, watching the likes of Dianna Rig and Dinsdale Landon pound the boards.

lol Alan,
I remember a number of years ago in the UK, a diminuative but fiery CO named Wilf Gregory. A pocket battleship of a man constantly butting heads with any heads he spotted.
He felt that to take a compliment on a talk was the slippery slope to 'man-worship', so to confuse the admirers who were foolish enough to say, 'enjoyed your talk Bro. Gregory', he would immediately quip back, 'Why?'.
On day he got more than he bargained for, when a huge sister with a personality to suit paid the dreaded compliment and recieved the rebuttal, 'Why?'. Without a shadow of hesitation she responded, 'Well my little boy has been such a pest today, and I thought he would disrupt the meeting this evening, but thankfully he found your talk so boring he slept right through it'.
Wilf's face looked for a moment as if somebody had stolen his wallet, then he quickly regained his composure, cleared his throat and silently moved on.

It takes a real Witness to bitch slap AlanF....
by SixofNine in...into submission.. here's one now, posting in the psuedoscience forum on wol:.
i thought i would post a review of a certain book i know of called "solving the mystery of the biblical flood" which is just now available from some of the on line book sellers.
it is basically a geology book that proves the earth has had a recent earth wide flood as described in the bible.

Six,
lol - There is nothing quite like the sound of an author pushing the glories of his own books.
The breathy sound of desperation projected by the wad of unpaid bills in his back pocket.
Its a bit like a pre-pub CD that came my way once that had an accompanying letter which said among many other things, 'XXXX new release will change the face of English Folk music. He uses a 12 string guitar in this CD!'.

I Am Searching For The Dolphins In The Sea...

the wts would have us believe that it is not possible for persons holding fundamentally differing viewpoints to be true friends, and that inevitably they will fight.

Comf,
It is also disturbing and irritating to me to see blatantly insulting speech used in addressing others over differences of view or belief. Often, the only recourse in such a situation is to withdraw from the conversation. This may appear to some as defeat; undoubtedly the one casting the insults will pronounce it a victory. Situations like these are when it becomes necessary to fall back upon your own knowledge of what is true.
Comf, this is without doubt one of the most sensible statements posted this weekend. Thank you.
Pat and Others,
Many thanks for you input into this thread. 'Being right', sometimes at all costs, does seem to be tied up with each one of our hearts. I like to think that along the way we learn the life skills needed to make peace rather choose war.
I happen to think that if you rounded up all the truly evil people in the world you would probably have 250,000 people causing the pain to 6 billion. Pleased to say that the ratio on this board is around the same!

Hello,
'I only know that peace will come, when all our hate is gone...I am searching for the dolphins in the sea...' A line from 'Dolphins', rendered at its best by the late Tim Buckley.
There has been much bad blood being spilled in waves on these pages the past few days. Friends have been set against friends, reputations maligned and real tears shed, it is a truly painful scene to behold.
Trying to ride the avalanche of emotions that sweep us along in these word-wars seems to be impossible without leaving behind a trail of sadness and hurt.
So I now pose a question. The WTS would have us believe that it is not possible for persons holding fundamentally differing viewpoints to be true friends, and that inevitably they will fight. They call this ‘disunity’. On this premise they develop the principle of the conditioning that they call ‘unity’, and using this system they are, it has to be admitted, remarkably successful at keeping a superficial peace between ‘friends’.
Do you believe that it is possible to be a friend of somebody who vehemently disagrees with ones viewpoint on a matter? If so how would you suggest a person handles such a disagreement on a venue such as this?
I will plant a flag in my own territory and say that I feel that disagreements that obviously involve two individuals, especially ones with a ‘history’, should be taken off-line and dealt with there, but as ever I am open to persuasion.

The coming Death of Simon's Board?
by Mindchild inis there a cure for the cancer that is growing on this board?
i discuss this below and think there is and maybe you will like it.
if you didnt know it already, im a veteran of web-based communities and i can trace my virtual roots to living in the first generation of online hangouts (which were direct dialup electronic bulletin boards before the web was around) like the well and echo.

Hello Disciple Six and non-disciple MC, lol
Yes, my post certainly is indicative of my own dichotomy and as I hope you gathered I can clearly see both sides of the issue hence my struggle.
I am fairly new to online-venues, having made my first post anywhere on a Board venue apart from the music discussion Board which I belong to and is private , in April of this year to this Board. I will also admit that for the few weeks before that, I lurked for a while at H20, but until that point had not viewed any of the sites on offer online. So perhaps this is early days for me and I have yet to break my teeth and settle my own heart on the issue of the responsibility of our words and how they effect others lives.
Like Disciple-Six, I do see the need of a site with a more user-friendly tone for those who wish to take their first leap from the ‘jumping off point’. Ros on Channel C is attempting this type of venue, probably what MC described as a ‘G’ rated site, and has had among other ‘elitist’ ( only joking folks! ) posters Carl Jonsson, Greg Stafford, Amazing, Just2Laws and a few others. I hope that it helps those who need a mid-way house to find a little comfort in their lives.
Anyway interesting discussion - it certainly raised Fred Hall’s furry hackles -- HS

Mindchild,
You offer some excellent suggestions many of which I agree with.
My worry with such on-line venues, and this is a concern that is unique to XJW's in may ways is the impression given to lurkers of what life as an XJW is like.
Imagine a lurker, with curious doubts in heart, coming to this board the past couple of days. What he sees validates all the WTS says about life outside the 'Organization'. Moderation would make this board more user-friendly.
Now many argue that this board was not set up to put people right about the WTS but is a simple discussion Board for people who were once welded together by a common belief to share their lives. This may be true in practice, but in reality we bear a heavy responsibility for what might happen to those effected by our posts and words. I wrestle with this discomfort daily.
The last time this issue was raised the majority consensus of the Board was that they are quite happy with the way that it is run now. My own vote was and is for reasonable moderators whose concern is to stop posts that are obviously mischievous in motive, from developing into ‘Board wars’. We have seen the result on one poster recently who was left deeply disturbed by these events.
Another point that needs to be made that I have made before but will repeat is that I know for a fact that these Boards are tracked by the WTS. I cannot tell you how I know, and whether you choose to believe what I say or not is something I cannot influence. However, that is why I have often been disturbed when sensitive information is regarding leaked ‘before its time’, often in the spirit of the ‘I found it first’ scenario. This serves the WTS very well and allows Legal to plan for the future. I am not suggesting that anything but self-moderation should influence this situation, but is as well to be reminded every so often.
Thank you Mindchild for raising this subject -- HS
