lew rockwell posted an excellent article (the force is with us) on the downward trend in prices we are seeing in some sectors of the economy, and why this is a good and absolutely necessary thing to be happening.
as we all know, the powers-that-be at the federal reserve, in the federal government, and on wall street are trying their best to make sure that prices do not come down.
in seeing falling prices as one of the big problems of the economy, they fail to understand that housing prices (for example) must be allowed to fall to market levels so that more people can afford to buy houses at mortgages they can afford, and so that the huge surplus of housing that wont sell at previous prices will be able to sell.
some things like food (processed foods in particular) will stay high ... the rew products cost more a few months back so there should be a bit of a hangover effect as those higher costs are recovered.
We made as much hay round here as usual..demand is about the same but but the production fuel cost neary $4 bucks a gallon... we need to make the costs up so prices are up this winter.
diesel priced will stay up... as will asphalt prices. The the stuff in a barrel of oil gets sorted out in production for special fuels and products...

and you believed in an afterlife or resurrection (and the disease would be quite painfree).
then why in the world would this not be absolutely the best news you could receive?
as an atheist i believe that every life lost is one more in the long history of snuffed out lives and there is a certain sadness in that.. as a witness, christian, muslim etc then surely it follows that every human life finished is a cause for great celebration.
if I get so I cant saddle my own horse I probably would eat a bullet out in the woods someplace.
Damned the "afterlife"... being a burden on myself and those around me would be a bigger sin.

so much for worldwide coverage of the latest tract campaign that ended on nov 16.
("would you like to know the truth?
") our service overseer announced last night on the local needs part that our cong.
I found a tract in Bison, OK of all places... in the mens room of the towns C-store.
So if they only got to 40% of that territory I figure thats the "quality" 40%.... things should be slowing down ... the "work" has to be nearly finished by now.

Greg...not many years ago train tracks ran to all kinds of little towns in the USA. I wouldnt begin to guess how many miles of idle track are in this country.
With gas prices and all the push to spend on infrastucture I'd think some bright young Politician would make passenger rail service a priorty in this nation. Better rail service and a smarter air route structure would save billions in fares dollars and travel time.

i am just curious since now they are talking incentives of up to $10k.
this really has to be getting into their pockets even if it may be a manufacturers incentive.
I knew a couple of good car salesmen (small town... too) who were making 35-50K back in the early 80's. They had been at it for years...sold repeat customers and did some commercial/fleet and farm work in addition to retail passenger cars. I have not bought much from a mega dealer over the years because of the high pressure crap... "lose" my key and I raise hell. Need to talk to the boss?... 5 minutes and I am knocking on the door you went in.
the rebates work back from the manufacture... commisions are paid on purchase price the best I understand things...plus a bigger cut on "add-ons" like rustproofing and floor mats etc.
Used to be the service department was the salesmans best freind in the repeat sales end of things...And a good salesman would send a Christmas card, etc to keep you 'connected'...
Dealers will be closing...especially Big 3 lots... lots of car salesmen come and go... and I see a lot "going" this next year or so. GM lots will be closing in droves if NPR was to be belived this morning... Pontiac division may be going closed too
So much for the old days..

You cant bring your own food and drink...TSA regs
If you bring a gun or knife... the bag goes in the hold... additional fee for the extra luggage.
US air travel needs to rethink the "hub system" for starters... and force the TSA out and take care of their own security issues if they want to be competitive again.
