shunning is a show witnesses can put on to to make people pay attention to them.
its just another load of their crap.
i've had witnesses see me in stores and just look like they didn't know what to do.
i moved away and have avoided witnesses in my new area.
i have tried calling old witness friends and they just usually say they don't want
to talk to me. i'm gonna start calling them again.

Wow. I've been around here as Joel for about 7 years.
It was on here that I first learned of the World Trade Center disaster.
So many people here have affected my life positively and kept me
going through extremely tough times.
I just wanted to say thanks to all those people.
Take care and live long and prosper.

I remember when it was 100 hours a month in the late 60's early 70s.
When I was a pioneer it was 90 hours and it was tough to get and
earn enough money to live, even though I was living at home.
I worked two jobs, a bank teller and a janitor.
Between Bethel and Pioneering I put in 2 years of full time service.
Was it a waste of time?
No. I learned a lot about myself and a lot about people during those
2 years. I also learned a lot about the Bible and the Society. I learned
enough that I left the organization. -

Homosexuals are human also...
by zeroday inpretty much living my entire adult life in jw land i had such a one sided biased against the world including gays...in my own family there were a number of gay members that i thought i was so above them and better than them because the bible said so...i had a cousin die of aids in the early 80's and felt no remorse at all...since my departure 4 years ago i have redirected my priorities in life to include those of not my way of life...i currently have a gay cousin about my age and see the world in a whole new light...i no longer feel superior to anyone and accept those for who they are...this has been a long and hard road back to simplicity i'm just sorry it took so long...

Growing up a gay Jehovah's Witness (My Life Story)
by m0nk3y ini feel the need to express how i feel and felt about my life as a gay man.
i was brought up from birth as a jehovahs witness.
this has played a major part in my life and it has been a real struggle to get past.

well i'll condense my story some.
I think most gay people go through a period of feeling useless.
Its scary. You really don't feel human.
The loneliness and fear of discovery is quite overwhelming.
I outed myself when I was 10. I told my parents that I was playing
around with other little boys. They dismissed it and ignored it.
I outed myself again when I was 20 and at Bethel. I fell in love.
Its hard to be in love with someone and not be able to tell them.
I told them and was sent home. It was fairly clear why I had
been sent home but again the subject was ignored.
Then I finally outed myself for good when I was 30. Left the
organization. Started a new life.
Being shunned by family and friends is experienced by others
than gays of course. Being shunned did an enormous amount
of psychological damage to me which seems to be getting
worse as I get older.
I'm glad that I have my partner Mitch with whom I have had
a 20 year long relationship and my friends who I don't
stay in contact with as much as I should. They all lead
such busy lives. -

TSA now allowed to take laptops from you
by Devilsnok innot content with taking your shoes and confiscating your water, now the department of homeland security is gunning for your laptops.
as the washington post reported yesterday, border patrol and customs agents can now detain laptops for a reasonable period of time to review and analyze information.
they dont need probable cause under the new policy.

If you don't hear about "the Kingdom" you won't be destroyed so why preach?
by Witness 007 inwitnesses believe in these last days, if you never spoke to a witness or heard about the kingdom, jehovah will not destroy you...you will have a second chance in the new system to study.
so why bother preaching at all....there will be time in "paradise.
" is this correct?

There is much lack of logic in the concept of the judgement. If you lived before the preaching work began you get resurrected. If you live in a country where there are few witnesses you will get resurrected. If you die before you are preached to you will get resurrected. What happens to aborted babies? The preaching work doesn't work like it did 50 years ago. No one is at home anymore. Also people have a preconceived idea of what witnesses believe so are less likely to listen to a sermon or even open their door. Most neighborhoods are either gated or do not allow solicitation. The effect is that less and less people have any idea what witnesses believe.

Why I will NEVER be an elder again
by stillajwexelder inso the po confirmed what many on this board already know.
at latest round of co to elders meeting, the co quoted from the society outline.
any elder or ms who encourages college for his kids or others or who allows his children to go to college will no longer qualify.. he then asked if i was going to take the cos encouragement and reach out again to be an elder and get my hours on the ministry up.. i replied "i will never be an elder again - i strongly approve of further education and college and have been through college myself.

I'm 50 and just got my bachelor's degree when I was 46.
I didn't get to study what I wanted when i was young.
