Why can't any of the kingdom songs be cool like that?
I love Mozart.
dies irae, dies illa.
solvet saeclum in favilla.
teste david cum sibylla.. quantus tremor est futurus.

me and the hubby were talking about back in the day when we had to give public talks.
i'm a natural chatterbox and not very shy.
my hubby is just the opposite.
I never gave a talk. But I was sure terrified at the prospect of have to sit through them.
last week when i was tipsy i ordered a copy of sing praises to jehovah, and it came in the mail today.
i hadn't heard some of the songs since i was a child, and i've rediscovered some of the lyrics.
they are quite amusing (albeit disturbing).. this is a classic everyone knows, song number 2. .

Obeying God Rather Than Men
All things we do to please our God;
The world we've left behind.
The unbelievers think we're odd,
But this we do not mind.
And rather God than men obey,
That is our firm resolve.
Our lives and all we do each day Around him now revolve.
Analysis. Yes, everyone thinks you're hella odd. And no, you obey men, not God.
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD
Song number 53
Theocracy's Increase
Hail the Theocracy, ever increasing!
Wondrous expansion is now taking place.
Praise to Jehovah is sung without ceasing
By those who walk in the light of his face.
Long years ago saw the humble beginning
As our Redeemer a lowly way trod.
Now a great crowd join the remnant in bringing
Praises to him at the right hand of God.
Analysis: WTS HEIL!!! What else can you say?
Rhyme scheme: ABABACAC (real switch up there)
Song number 92
Preach With Boldness
Jehovah's servants need to be strong,
Due to the pressures from Satan's throng.
We get this courage from God's own Word,
Also from sharing the things we have heard.
God's Word gives power, the will to stick,
And keeps us loyal 'through thin and thick.'
Like the apostles and men of old,
Let us be steadfast, rejoicing and bold.
Analysis: You sooooooo ripped that off from Dr. Seuss!!!
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD (well, I admit, Dr. Seuss was a lot more creative than that)
Does anyone have any comments on their favorite Jehober song/elevator hymn? Also, I would love to hear it if people have rewritten the lyrics to be more apropos to the reality of the WTS. I play the piano, maybe we can make some music. Start a youtube channel or something.
yesterday, my aunt was talking to one of my siblings about how things have been changing in our [ex] congregation for the 'better'.. she mentioned how a new circuit overseer has come in and is shaking things up.
the co appointed a ministerial servant (someone, the po & secretary didn't like and i know would never have voluntarily suggested appointment) and some of the 'brothers' that have had no 'responsibility' ever are being given #4 talks.
she also mentioned that the book study will be cancelled and the meetings are being shortened.. a ministerial servant who had a vendetta against some of the elders wants me to talk to a co and basically tell him i left the congregation [and the religion] because of the incompetence of the elders.. i'm not talking to the co and i'm not 'blaming' anyone.
I would go back if and only if I could do so as part of a covert operations team with special James Bond type weapons. Like a laser pointer shaped like a cross. Or a 666 to shine on the elders heads during talks.
hello all.... been a while since i've posted.. i'm mostly trolling here now-a-days.. off paxil and feel great.
the brother that "brought me into the truth" called me the other day.
just told him - thanks, when we last talked - i was about to commit suicide.. feel better now.
If I knew then what I know now, I sure as hell would have wanted someone to tell me, regardless of my physical condition. The poor guy has already lost the use of his legs. You going to let the WTS suck out his brain as well?
hi all.
in your opinion, what was the silliest , most laughable watchtower teaching/doctrine, since its beginning until now???.
chukyy.
Hi. We're a legitimate religion.
after finishing "combatting cult mind control" i decided to move on to the next logical book.
i've read the first 100 pages of "crisis of conscience" and it's gone by really fast.
now i know why this book is so important.
There. I've ordered it. Yes I have.

I am about 200 pages into Crisis of Conscience right now, and it's really starting to horrify me. I've always wondered what went on behind closed doors in the WTS, and I think I'm beginning to understand why they are closed.
I know this doesn't answer your question, but you have just convinced me to order Combatting Cult Mind Control.
one of the hardest things for me to admit, even more than a decade after having cut off witness ties as much as possible, was the possibility that they might be a cult.. i would always tell people that jw's had messed up ideas, that they screwed up people's families, etc., but a cult?
surely i wasn't born into a cult.
the following is one definition i found on the internet:.

The following is one definition I found on the internet:
7 ELEMENTS OF A CULTIC GROUP
1) A centralized form of leadership that rules with unquestioned authority
2) A body of convictions, beliefs, and practices set forth boldly as "the truth"
3) A compelling presentation of the group vision to prospects that is inviting and challenging
4) A series of manipulative socializing sessions to instill psychological dependence on the group
5) A definable process of group dynamics used to unethically control and manipulate members
6) A history of abuses of authority by group leaders freely using deception and fear tactics
7) A history of psychological and spiritual abuses of group members that destroy lives
Sound familiar? I don't know if that is really the accepted definition of cult, but it seems to describe JW's to a T. For some reason, the word cult makes me think of Waco and Jim Jones. I guess Witnesses just don't have the Kool-Aid. They're too cheap.
not sure if i think scientology is better or worse than the j-dubs.
they are pretty effed up, but at least they don't try to hide behind the bible.. anyone?.
