From 'Everlasting Life' to just a few more years. How did you handle the realisation that you WOULD die?

the thing is, a lot of us thought we'd never die.

do you comprehend what a truly massive mind-fuck that is?

when i was embroiled in doubts and knew i was heading 'out of the truth' i remember waves of nausea hitting me.

You mean we're all going to die?

Just like all the millions that came before us and all the billions that are now and the ones that will come after us.

I didn't sign on for this. I was assured that as a young one I wouldn't have to worry about death. That it would

be a thing of the past.

Of course the ones that assured me of this also said the end would be here in the late 1800's,1914, 1925,1975

etc. etc. Hmmmm something tells me I'd better start thinking about writing out that "Will" that we won't need since

the end is so close now.

my mother became a jw when i was six months old so i was brought up within the confines of the organisation.

i left properly in my early twenties and i am now 43 so a good 22 years of life, post being a witness have i travelled and documented thus far.

mine was a typical experience of a child in the congregation and i was busy doing my best to be a little adult as the child within slowly fell asleep.

Just realized you and I are close in age and that makes me feel like a slow learner since you evidently saw somethings

Manipulation as its worst

my brother has been dating this woman for 6 months.

he made it clear from the very beginning before they got serious that he would not marry her or anyone for that matter.

does not want a repeat.

I think neither of them are looking at all their options.

If your brother doesn't want to marry her would he be man enough to tell her instead of abortion that he

would raise the child himself and pay for all its expenses if she will sign the papers giving him full custody.

Have him check the laws in his state governoring child care,custody etc.

That way he wouldn't be forced into marrying her simply because she became pregnant and she wouldn't have to

worry about maybe a gulty conscience later or getting in trouble with her church etc.

Just some of my thoughts anyhow

I wish both of them wisdom on their decision,

its like the fresh air of spring blowing in once again.. to have so many new ones registering and sharing stories of their lives and experiences as jw's.. they have also been posting very useful info and input on some of the threads i've read so far.. .

to all the new ones just in case you don't know about it i'd like to post a very useful feature that you might like.. if you see someone with a lot of posts (say maybe over 1000+)and they've been a member of the board for a while,.

and you've enjoyed their comments, click on their chat handle and look back on some of their very first posts that.

To all the new ones just in case you don't know about it I'd like to post a very useful feature that you might like.

If you see someone with a lot of posts (say maybe over 1000+)and they've been a member of the board for a while,

and you've enjoyed their comments, click on their chat handle and look back on some of their very first posts that

they made when they first became a member. I like to do this just to see how far some have come in life since

first joining and seeing how their ideology, faith, family and other things have changed.

Hoping to hear much more from all of you in the future.

i have been raised as a jw and now i recently found out how full of crap it all is.

the lies are just unbelievable at this point.

on a side note my parents and my brother all want to leave too my dad is still in as an elder.

Welcome to the forum/board!

So glad to see all the new ones that have joined in just the last 2 weeks.

There is many on here that are in similar circumstances as you as far as their spouse still in and no doubt you will be

hearing from some of them on this thread.

One thing that I will always agree with is that the truth will set you free. It is man with his untruths that burden

us down and bind us with heavy loads trying to convince us to believe something that we know just don't make sense.

Just hang in there and be patient with your wife and throw hints to her from time to time. Borrowing a strategy from the

Org about giving them a crutch to stand on before taking their legs out from under them comes to mind at this time.

So just always reassuring her that you're there for her even if you don't always see eye to eye on everything can go

a long ways.

New Here - Hi All

i'm new to this forum and look forward to getting to know you guys.. just a short summary about me, i was raised a jw, baptized at 15, married at 25, moved a few states away, started fading away about a year and a half ago.

started doing some searching about some long-standing doubts and completely sure now that this isnt the truth.

being out is still new and very difficult, but i'm making strides every day.. as i said, i look forward to getting to know you all..

Any chance you can elaborate on were here is? The reason I ask is there have been many meet-ups held in different

locations and there is a broad range of geographic areas represented on this board. Only give what you feel comfortable

sharing about yourself with others. In other words many say what state or country they're in but not include their city/town

for privacy and security reasons.

Looking forward to hearing more from you and about you in the future.

unleavened bread and fermented wine at the Memorial

my mom who comes to church with us every week for the last 6 months or so has been harping about the leavened bread that some churches use.

i sometimes wonder why she comes with us because she criticizes so much.

i wouldn't, but i have had moments when i felt like saying that maybe she should go back to the hall.

I can try and give you the story I've heard before about why they use wine.

Apparently at this time of year (near the passover) the grapes in and around Israel would have been from the last

harvest, being that the ones for the current season wasn't even ready to be gathered yet. So naturally with that much

time lapsed from the last harvest they woulda been fermented.

But I can neither deny or confirm this since I've never personally been to Israel and not sure of their growing seasons.

Maybe someone else can weigh in on this that does know for sure.

Oh and by the way the thing that started this thread was I was listening to the T.V. last night while at the computer

and in the background i heard a girls voice say if only I'd listened to myself. (not sure what the show was at the time)

When she said that it immediately flooded my mind with all those talks and how it was showed how "if only" some

woulda listened to the GB or Org how it woulda turned out better for them.

WTWizard nailed it when he said they don't show you all the ones that did listen and how now they are left destitute.

No more Kool Aid Quote: "So I always remind myself "had I listened" I would be a childless, homeless, uneducated spinster."

I'm so glad that you didn't listen, both you and your husband and you both should give each other a big ole bear hug

for going against the grain. I have talked to many that are witnesses now that wished they would've had children but

since the end was so close they wee just going to wait till the new system. I feel sorry for them. Many others have

no life savings to fall back on because of not thinking they would need to bother with it since the end was so close.

You can see in some of their faces the despair of trying to make ends meet over the next few years. Very sad indeed.

mrsjones5: I envy you for being able to blank it all out back then. I musta been one of those paying more than

the usual attention. (LOL I still hate that phrase)

Outlaw: I think even with just a half a brain we woulda figured out how stupid some of the teachings were. It would

have probably just took us twice as long to do it. :)

A part of me is glad that I didn't go thru all this alone but then another part of me is mad that others endured and

were put thru the same crap as me. At least many of us on here can relate and understand what each other are

going thru or having to deal with in life. A normal person in the world that never was a JW can't even begin to

comprehend what we've put up with or taught from a young age. It is all so foreign to them. And I'm happy for them

because of that.
