>I think the WTB&TS is resorting to what I like to call Walmart witnessing. Walmart's philosphy is that it's better to sell lots of stuff at low prices rather than just a few big, expensive items. It seems the message of the jws is now the same. Spread the word to as many as you can, but don't bother with any meaningful discussions or presentations.
This is pretty much the last thought I had which cinched my departure. When I saw that service meetings were just sales meetings, "hide behind the literature and let it do the talking for you" ... it was nothing like the religion I had grown up in. This is when I finally glimpsed the frail little man behind the curtain and realized I needed to stop attending what was becoming a huge waste of time.

Deceptive or just wrong?
by johnnyc ini have been virtually non-stop studying everything i can get my hands on with regards the wtbts, and "apostate" literature and information.
in all honesty, 80% at least is non-sense and over critical.
however, i do find about 20% (if i have to create a percentage reference) is appropriate in its line of reasoning and questioning.

>bennyk: I was simply making the point that there are examples in the bible of God's channel not always acting correctly or doing the right thing - but in each example God still requires others to keep in line with their authority. In those cases however, it usually means a very bad punishment for the party in authority who makes that error.
Yes, we must submit to the authority of some even when they are wrong. BUT, the question is, do we submit to ALL who claim authority? Many religions claim authority, but it is our personal responsibility to identify who is deserving of that authority. We should reject the authority of those who falsely claim it, correct? (Christendom, et. al.)
I have come to the decision that the WT is just one more part of Christendom, deserving of no more authority than any other religion. God does not require me to "keep in line with their authority" inasmuch as he does not require me to keep in line with any other religion's authority.
It STILL means a very bad punishment for the party in authority who makes that error. But it doesn't let the followers off the hook of their own personal responsibility, does it? If you say "yes, it does," then it doesn't matter if people leave "Babylon the Great". If you say, "no, it doesn't", then you have some serious thinking to do. -

A Disgusting Thing in a Holy Place.
by KnowlegeSeeker_UK inhello..... i have recently left the organisation on moral grounds.
on a principle ironically burnt into me as a jw.. i have only this week told my family i would not be coming back.
though i was a pioneer and bethelite, they are not shocked, i have been distant from the congregations for some time now.

You bet we understand!!!!!
I've thought and thought this round and round, and have concluded that JWs have EVERY exit covered, so there is no way to exit in good standing. Every argument has a pre-planned rebuttal. Even "living a good JW life" while outside has a label. Going to university is your "sin" and now anything is to be expected. THey probably are saying that you've lost your faith by being exposed to "teachings of the flesh" and human thinking.
Eventually, you'll "sin". You'll face your fears. and THEN you'll be released from the "no-man's land". -

oh, so it's NOT my speakers?
I just got a new car with XM/Sirius. I'm loving the options of music but assumed my speaker system wasn't great. I'll have to try a CD out and see. -

I was locked out of my dad's house AGAIN tonight!
by Melody Blankenship intonight, monday, november 10, 2008, i went out to see my dad ([name and city edited for privacy reasons]) about 7:15 p.m. i saw his wife standing at the kitchen sink when i pulled in, and i pulled around back as i always do.
by the time i got out of my car, she had turned the lights off in the kitchen and went into my dad's bedroom.
i rang and rang the doorbell but she (rose ann andris powell) would not come unlock the door.

How I was appointed C.O.
by BonaFide inif you have never served out of this country or spent any time preaching in another country, you may have certain ideas of how a c.o.
behaves and talks and acts.
what is the youngest c.o.
-
halcyon
just from my "women's intuition" and judging from the demeanor of most of the C.O.s I've met in the fifteen years before I left, I would think that the C.O.s are closer to knowing the "truth" about the org than most ... they just don't have anything to break away TO.

Hanging Snow flakes on my windows is that bad too?
by Cheetos inis hanging snow flakes or autum stuff a no no too and will i get kicked out for it?
-
halcyon
At one point I spent a lot of energy trying to figure out what was technically Christmas and what was not.
Snowflakes were not. Snowmen were not. Santa, obviously, was.
But what about pine trees? If they weren't decorated, then they were OK. Decorated was a no-no. Gifts? Uh, probably bad, especially if wrapped in red and green paper. For that matter, what about the colors red and green in themselves? I had to conclude that they were Christmassy.
So my house decorations were very carefully chosen, as were my choice of song titles. I played "Jingle Bells" and "Winter Wonderland" as much as possible. Tried really really hard to find other unobjectionable songs of the season to play. Was pretty upset when "These Are A Few of My Favorite Things" became a "christmas song." NO! IT'S NOT!!
I even asked worldly people "are mittens and snowflakes a christmas decoration?" They all said, YES, and couldn't understand why I was trying to make such petty distinctions between decorations. -

Re: Tract left at my door 06-Nov-08 19:18
by Melody Blankenship inin response to bumble bee from the above listed post wherein she stated that a jw tract was left in her mailbox......i think that is against the law (pretty sure it is here in the usa) and you might have a lawsuit against the wtbts.
i do believe that anything that is left in your mailbox is supposed to have the proper postage attached.
just my thoughts but you might want to "ask a lawyer.

If it's the post I remember reading, I think she lives in Canada. I know cuz that stuck out at me right away so I looked ... unless she's put a fake home country in her profile (like me) ...
