i am looking for the best granite countertops that are stain resistant.

You might also want to check into quartz counter tops. I have them and love them. It is actually stronger than granite, never has to be sealed, and it heat and stain proof. The cost is about the same as granite. Two brand names are Zodiac and Sylstone. I have also heard of radon emitting from granite but haven't heard it about quartz.

some persons need to feel they are validated because they don't have much going for them otherwise.

I do have to add that I am not afraid to talk to an audience or crowd.....thats one positive I can say for being in the dubs.

I keep seeing the same things over and over.....not good enough, not doing enough, depressed, embarrassed. I don't think many born-ins can say they felt better about themselves. Maybe some who came in later in life after terrible things had happened to them. This is the kind of person the dubs pray upon. I lost my childhood to this religion and never felt better once I left.

should the purpose of a board to be to give the person needed help and then the person should just move on?.

This Board is a great thing! I'm very new to it but have thought for years something like this would be a good thing for alot of folks. I got out at 18 and have now been out longer than I was in, but my upbringing with the j dubs has obviously had a lasting and profound affect on me. Talking about it with others helps.

a few weeks ago i had a conversation with my mother (still a jw).
she told me that one of my fave elders, who was disfellowshipped a few months before i disassociated three years ago, just got reinstated.
now, to know my mother is to know that she doesn't give you information unless she has an underlying motive.
Recently my mother made the statement that she would be the happiest person alive if all her children would come back to "the truth". My mother also fails to see what successful people we have become. Because we are not witnesses, we are failures in her eyes. I have a different take on this that I haven't heard yet on this site and that is, I am the one who is dissapointed in my seemingly intelligent parents for being duped and taken in by this religion. How could they be so naive when I knew from a young age it was BS? Anyone feel the same about their parents?

Why does someone in a wheelchair deserve a pass? They can't walk but they should be able to THINK! I have fantasies about what I'll do next time the j dubs knock on my door. I will always be respectful to them....cuz thats how my j dub mom raised me....but I would love to turn the tables on them and ask some really hard questions and make THEM think. If you explain to wheelchair how you feel, he may start to think, I mean REALLY use his noggin and you could be doing him a huge favor.

Hello and thanks for the warm welcome! I posted a little about my background on the thread entitled "afraid of the end of the world?" Wow...what an awesome site this is! I had thought for years there needed to be something like this for us ex J dubs but never knew this existed till a friend told me. It really helps to be able to talk about everything with those who know what we're going through.

i just watched wall-e, and while a cute movie, it really made me anxious.

I was a born-in J dub and remember hating going to meetings for as far back as my memory goes. One of my very first J dub memories is of my father sitting all of us kids down and telling us our mother was going to be disfellowshipped. I remember my mom and sisters all crying so I cried too. I asked if mom was going to die since I couldn't wrap my five year old head around why everyone was so upset. I asked what disfellowshipped meant but of course at that age you don't really understand. Nice first memory of "the religion" eh? Hated it ever since and it got worse of course as a teenager. Got out at 18 and never looked back. Found out that there are LOTS of nice wordly folks out there and I have never, not once regretted leaving. I have a teenage son who I make sure gets to do all the stuff I was denied. He has turned out to be a fine young man......despite all that bad association! LOL

i was told recently by a ministerial servant that the word had come down from above that from now on only two comments by children will be allowed during the wt study.
the reason: the meetings are geared to adults, not children.

This would not surprise me in the least. The powers that be have never been exactly kid friendly. How torturous it was to sit through meetings listening to stuff you didn't understand or care about. This new rule or whatever it is would have actually been a blessing when I was young because my mother used commenting at the meetings as a weapon of sorts. She would say if you don't comment at the meeting you won't be allowed to (fill in the blank). So, I would look ahead in the Watchtower and pick a question I wanted to answer and rehearse until that question came up. Yeah, real affective learning there! I answered my question to the exclusion of everything else. I recently asked my mom in one of our very rare discussions about "the religion" why the witnesses don't have a sunday school type thing for the young kids. She qouted some scripture (big surprise) that said you should gather with your children in worship. I told her that back when that was written they gathered on hillsides to worship. things are a little different nowdays. I told her kids learn in very different ways and wouldn't it be more affective to teach them in ways they can understand. Would that be such a bad thing? She had no answer for me but I could see the wheels turning. I then told her how torturous it was sitting through the boring meetings as a kid and how it fosters dread and bad attitudes. Of course she is a woman and therefore in no positon to even make a suggestion for change in the congregation, but I got her thinking. I think.

I think what you're feeling is fairly normal. I've been out for almost 22yrs so most of that stuff has gone away but I remember having frequent dreams about "the end". Severe storms would also make me cringe thinking this could be it. I also remember having a deep dread of Thursdays even after I left and it took me a little while to retrain me brain that Thursdays need not be dreaded anymore. I didn't have to go to the meetings.....I was free.
By the way, this is my very first post and I'm so glad to have found this site. I have a job that affords me the ability to be online at work and I spent HOURS on here last night reading.
