the following is taken from questions from readers p.31 of the my 1, 2002 watchtower.

it is the wt response to the question: "when john saw the "great crowd" rendering sacred service in jehovah's temple, in which part of the temple were they doing this?".

Hmmm, if the WTS is getting ready to amend this particular part of the 'truth', then they may go '2-for-1', so-to-speak.

What I mean is, if they're gonna say that the members of the great crowd may actually entertain a hope for heaven, they may change the official understanding of 144,000 from a literal number to a figurative one.

This could help them to deal with the (claiming to be) annointed 'excess' that exists. Without just refuting them, the WTS will allow for their heavenly hope and keep them 2nd. class. That way, the R&F can avoid the inevitable discomfort when some 20 year old looney-toon starts telling everyone at the KH he/she's a special one. The R&F can pretend to buy the crazy's claim, since now WT theology allows for an unknown number of annointed.

I really could imagine this happening, it seems like just another innocent 'change of understanding' which the R&F would swallow without too much trouble, while they ignore the huge implications of such a chamge.

Sounds crazy, yes? No? What do you think?

i thought the ultimate test was for a perfect man to decide whether or not they would submit to god's rule?.

Ya, I seem to remember being told that Adam and Eve would NOT be resurrected, since as perfect people, their sin was totally their choice - no imperfections to blame it on.

i posted this in another thread.... i wanted to give it its due concideration..... i wish to share a small tid-bit of something that came to "light" last week.

it shows how underhanded and sneeky the little trolls are, and they even know they are.. an issue came up recently in a watchtower over a certain number of years that was mentioned in a w.t.

the actual years in the bible was different.

Ha, so much for 'making sure of all things'.

By now, many of the elders are quite aware of the 'soft-spots' in JW theology. The info is all over the net, what can they do? They have no defence for most of their lies, so their best bet is to attack the person posing the questions...

You come across a JW lie or falsehood (a matter of perspective, I guess), and you are suspected of a mind-crime. What does the average JW learn? Shut the hell up. You said it, 'watch what you ask about'.

The brainwashing continues. For some. How long can the average JW reconcile worshiping Jehovah (God of Truth) in a cult of ignored lies?

i was just wondering if the ex-jw's here now believe you have a soul, or do you still hold on to the borgs claims of man/woman not having a soul.

i for one know we do.

Skimmer, that sounds like a combination of JW and traditional Christian doctrine.

The questions now raised are:

1. Where and what were my soul before I had this body? Did I exist?

2. Does your premise hold for all creatures on this planet? From apes, dogs and cats, down to paramecium and bacteriophages and such...if not, where's the cut-off point?

Not playing around with you, but these are real questions that I ask.

I always thought that this particular JW teaching had some credibility. I always defined a soul as a 'piece' of life, as a human or animal. And when a human or animal dies, that particular 'piece' of life is extinguished.

Over the years though, I've taken that premise to its logical conclusion and come up on some tough questions. If a man or a dog is a soul (a 'piece' of life, that is), what about single celled organisms? And if single celled organisms are souls, what about the millions and millions of cells that make up a more complex organism, like a human or a dog? Do every one of my body cells have a soul, or are they a soul? And what about the person called Hybridous? Is my soul a conglomerate of all those millions of souls of my cells? There's really no end to the questions.

May I ask how you know that I have a soul?

Did You Join the Borg to Rescue a Loved One?

i'm not a jw (and never have been) and my wife is in the borg.

she was assmimilated about 12 years ago.

i also have a 5 month old son.. my question is, has anyone ever joined the borg with the intent of trying to get a son/daughter/wife/etc.

Wow. You are considering a 'suicide mission' of sorts. I don't know anyone who has done this, but that doesen't maen it hasn't happened.

Just remember, you would have to maintain the facade of all facades. I don't see how anyone could keep that up year after year. And when you get to the point where you can't keep going, it will be tougher on you & your family then if you hadn't started at all.

I can understand what you want to do, but I don't understand what advantage you would gain by joining. If you or anyone else can think of one, please explain. I think that it would be a tremendous DISadvantage. You are where you want to be (and where you want the family to be)...on the outside. My advice is : don't make things harder than they are already. Do your research, ask the right questions at the right times, but keep your distance from the cult.

I may be mistaken about this - so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but...

I think that official WT teaching makes a distinction between 'Annointed' and the FDS. Just because someone, somewhere claims to be 'Annointed', doesen't mean that he/she is given an ounce of consideration by WT leadership (just ask Amazing). I believe that the official WT teaching is : the FDS consists of only those few individuals who sit in positions of WT leadership, not all individuals in all congregations who partake of the bread & wine.

And really, could they have it any other way? Could you imagine the WT trying to conduct business as usual under constant fire from every nut who believes that their opinion counts?! At least this way - everyone knows where they stand...at the bottom.

death and its punishment

if the theory of "when we die god had a meaning for us to go" or "it was our turn to go" does that mean that if i were to kill someone (hypetheticaly speaking) than i was just carrying out gods will and doing his work.. if so why should i be punished.

Good question, NinjaBen.

I have a born-again friend who makes references of 'God calling him when his time is up' - or something along those lines...I guess the implication is that God's Will dictates the time of our death (accidents and otherwise).

I asked him if this would (logically) extend to ALL people and circumstances, specifically, babies and children who die in car crashes and such. Would God's Will include disasters that claim innocent lives? Because if God chooses the time and circumstance of your death, what about everyone else? He mumbled about how such innocents would go straight to heaven, but no answer to the real question - did God ultimately plan and cause such 'untimely' deaths?

And he wonders why I don't want to go to his church whith him...

I guess I'm missing the point of metatron's contrast between reform and mainstreaming. If the JW religion 'mainstreams' to the point that it becomes just another Protestant sect, has it not 'reformed' itself? Considering the ultra-conservative attitude of the WT, wouldn't mainstreaming be a reform unto itself? I don't see the difference - someone help me here....

having only started to study with a jw she has yet to inform me of these elders, the book she gave me says a little, but after reading this board i see there is more i have yet to learn.

who are these elders?

i'm picturing a bunch of old men in velvet purple robes sitting around a circular table.

Wowwww, Franc....I was wondering when you were gonna run out of gas on that last post...'bad breath, B.O., mis-matched socks', was great.

Anyway, Francois is dead on about the children of elders. Typically, they are held up and put on a pedestal for the rest of the congregation's children to be in awe of. They can spit and stammer and trip over their own words in the TMS and door-to-door, but you can be assured that sons of elders will be the first to receive 'privileges' when they're being passed out. Young men who are raised as good JWs, but from a single mom - they don't rate well.

Elders' kids can be dumb like a rock, or smart and sly like a fox, but it doesen't even matter when they're caught being 'bad', because they aren't held to the same standard of conduct that other kids are. If you're an elder's son, you can get caught lying, stealing, fooling around (sexually), and stumbling around in a drunken stupor, and the 'consequences' will be minimal. If you're from less than the ideal JW family, your personal, spotless record of conduct isn't worth piss when it comes down to it. So, don't be expecting much from the elder and elderette parents who are supposed to be raising a household of exemplary children, it simply isn't that way.
