This is sickening and disturbing to think that American soldiers did this.
by StoneWall inwhen i first read over this on msnbc news today, it was truly morbid of just one soldier to do something like this.. but to think that 12 are being implicated tells you how truly sick a lot in the u.s. forces are.. what is the difference between what they did and what hitlers soldiers did?.
here is the link for the whole article:.

Is this really any different from things that have gone before? This world is just a repetition, generation after generation.
It is disgusting that they cut off fingers and other parts as trophies. However, this sort of thing has gone on forever in the history of wars. In the time of Jacob, people took trophies of body parts also. Perhaps they were ancestral; perhaps they were trophies of war.
What has been brought down to us through scripture is that the teraphim were known as household gods. Were people really superstitious about these body parts of the dead "protecting them"? Or did they serve some other purpose as to status of a household, like military medals that people use today? The midrash gruesomely describes the teraphim as "pickled shrunken heads".
Obviously, these items did have some great significance and importance attached to them.

cameo-d, they do not take any money at the literature/magazine counter at the Kingdom Hall anymore.
My friend was getting the mags directly from some JWs, not from the rag counter at hall. Wonder where they are turning in the money? do they deceptively "collect" on the pretense of magazines and then give the money to "WWW" as a cover?

I googled an old aquaintance recently. Awhile back she had attended Julliard on scholarship. The last I had heard of her, she was breaking in and getting parts with a prestigious Theatre Company. Haven't heard anything more for years and I had just wondered what she was up to...thought maybe I'd find her on facespace or something. As it turns out, I did see her pic. Her features had gone from stunning to haggard and now she is a preacher! What a waste.
I watched one of her sermons and it just seemed like she was talking to herself. There was so much drama and no real message in anything she was saying. I could sense that even with the attending audience, she was in an empty room---her own little world. She exhibited the same demented mannerisms so inherent in "preachers"----the fist shaking, the toe rolling, the voice inflections from boom to whispers. I suppose the theatre did influence her somewhat. But what a let down because I had expected so much more of her...that she would use her talents and her extrordinary gift of voice to uplift mankind and bring some beauty to an ugly world.
Why does anyone really preach? As I listened and watched her, I wondered if she was really trying to convince her own self of the validity of religion. Does this need to preach come from a personal search for meaning in life? Does it come from the idea that it's a lucrative income? Does it come from a need to be superior to others? Why does one think they are called out special and appointed by an invisible Puppet Master to talk down to others like they believe they are more spiritually endowed? What makes them think their ideas and interpretations are right? Why do these preachers think that everyone else is an imbecile that needs them to explain things, especially when the "explaining" is only their concept and not anything factual? Why do they delude themselves that they are "serving" their fellow man when the pulpit seems to be a pedestal only for self edification?
To see religion twist a life from what once sparkled as enjoyment and pleasure to what now appears as pious sacrifice and duty seems like a mental illness.
I am just so disappointed. Not everyone has her kind of talent, and to not make the most of it by sharing her true gift...well, it seems like a Creator would take it as a slap in the face. Why would someone not appreciate what they have and instead be overly concerned with a bulldozing agenda that everyone else must believe exactly what they do.

What proves that Jehovah's Witnesses are the wrong religion?
What? They are wrong? About what?
News to me. Do they know it?

by Joliette ini dont know if this thread is going to offend anyone...but whenever i was a kid, and i thought about 'jehovah distroying everything' i always used to think about that song 'rock the cabash' by the clash, (and later willeinum by will smith).

i dont know why those two songs go through my head whenever i think of the end of those world when i hear those songs lol..

Ok. This is the song that plays in my head, but maybe you won't get it because WT plays up Armageddon as a physical battle of destroying the earth, whereas I see Armageddon as a SPIRITUAL battle. You are living Armageddon right NOW.

The Truth stands on its own- WTBS or NO WTBS!
by theMadJW inyes, the wtbs has done much deserving ridicule- yet does far more deserving credit and respect.. but this is not about them, but the truth about god and christ they have made known, by showing it to all in the scriptures.
because of this work, most know that god(s) is not the ultimate sadist bbqing billions in a mythical 'hellfire' anymore, etc!.
this topic is at the request of little bird- is it possible to have a peaceful discussion here- without all the self-righteous psychobabble from so many?.

MadJW: "But this is NOT about them, but the Truth about God and Christ they have made known, by showing it to all in the scriptures"
Uh, can you give a brief qualifier? Can you sum up the "Truth about God and Christ" in 25 words or less so I can catch-up?

When I first heard of Kingdom Hall I thought it was a holy roller place. The name made me think of a pool hall. So I figured a Kingdom hall would be a rowdy place.

The JWs I know still accept money for the mags. I have a friend who gets the mags. If he doesn't give them 5 dollars every time, then the next week they will tell him there weren't enough mags to go around, or the hall was short, etc etc.
They have some strong but subtle ways to say things. They will put a guilt trip on friend to pay...like mention Bethel downsize, shortage of materials, have to have mags so others can place them, you should go to hall and get your own. Blah blah. They act like they are doing such a favor to pick up a couple of extra magazines.

When are the last days spoken of in the scriptures?
by stuckinamovement ini have been doing a lot of thinking lately and have pretty much come to the conclusion that all of the prophecies concerning the last days were fulfilled in the 1st century.
that explanation is the only one that makes sense.
the generation of matt.

stuck,
You are going to be surprised. As a matter of fact, the Pleiadians are asking the same thing. "Are we there yet?"
