I directly supervise the MS in charge of the money, and I can tell you: DOWNHILL!
We had a hefty fund, and I strongly opossed donating it to HQ. Instead - I said- we can put the as a deposit with the WTS, and get it back when needed; that way we support the WorldWideWork, but keep our money for a rainy day. All other elders agreed (I work for a Bank so they see me as a financial genius). Over the last 6 months that fund is half depleted.
when i was a minny man i was used to give p.ts home and away, this stopped when i asked to be given no more p.ts about 5 years before i left.
our p.o gave out the outlines and the venue in the old days, later another elder oversaw (is that a word?
) the business.. i refused to give one outline because it was such a load of rubbish, and i said so, our p.o then allowed me to go through the outlines and pick one i could do, not easy,took a lot of looking !.
I'll tell you what I do: I concentrate on talks dealing mainly with non-doctrine issues. Then I ignore the outline and build a encoraging, uplifting talk. MY own reasearch and thoughts are all over it. Every now and then (very infrequently) at the end some jerk wil come up to me "Bro. Churchill, that was an excellent talk, but you should clarify this and this better, because it could give the wrong impression, as you seem to imply such and such..."; I smile, thank the moron and thell him I'll take it in consideration for the next time (which I won't).
Let me tell you, teh satisfaction I derive from the heartfelt feedback I get is really comforting. I reafirms to me that I can do some good while I'm in. I see poor R&F bros. and sis being beaten, and I take as my duty to givethem some comfort.
And yes, that nonesense Global-Flood outline is still 'Current'.
so i was talking to my mother the other day, and she was distressed because she was saying that if my little sister isn't baptized or working toward it by the time she's 18 (which is coming up soon) she may have to move out (more then likely she'll move in with me and my girlfriend, or my older sister if that happens).
my little sister is a great kid (high honor roll, no trouble, hard worker, etc), that many parents would be grateful to have.
i asked my mom, why would they take parenting advice from a guy who doesn't (and hasn't) ever had kids?

Take my elder title away whenever you want. Good riddance. I'll mail you may 'Flock' book. Now get someone else to work for free. I will really miss those boring meeting deciding the colors for bathrooms, reading letters full of stupid rules, and above all I will miss all the paperwork note-taking. PLEASE someone get me an excuse to step down!
If they didn't promote kids being baptized at 12 and 15, there would be no df'ing at 18. Let kids grow and decide.

i know you have written about articles you have contributed to, and also that coc lists the authors of some of the books, but do you remember at least some authors of some books / brochures / special articles?.

so we have all seen the yearbook or the wt with the yearly statistics.. when i became a c.o., at my first meeting with the other c.o.
's at the branch, i was handed a piece of paper with statistics on it for that past year, both of the circuit i was assigned to serve, and the total stats in the country.. here are the stats that the branch keeps track of:.
publishers, congregations, bible studies, baptized, memorial attendance, pioneers, aux pios, etc.
They told us that a circuit's spirituality can be measured by its contributions to Jehovah.
Furthermore, we were told that a low level of contributions could signal concealed wrong-doing; the 'theory' is that if someone is doing something bad, and it doesn't come to light and the congregation is not 'cleansed', Congregation starts to lose influence of the Holy Spirit and bros and sis are not compelled to contribute.
Once my then supervisor at the branch told me that CO's seemed to handle spreadsheets better than Bibles. He was (is) a very incisive man, with a keen vision; he would tell me that the whole obsession with statistics in the organization was like a curse. He blamed the coordinator (a 'Knorr-ite' he would call him). Now that I like to think I have a clearer vision, I believe that he was against the whole time-reporting arrangement, but wouldn't tell (certainly not to me); years later I learned that some in the GB wanted to nix or at least simplify that.
i am shocked i am even writing this.
for about a year or so, i have hid in the darkness peeking at this site and following everyone else's story.
i have learned more than i expected from so many.

I joined a few weeks ago, after -like you- lurking for a long time. This bunch is just lovely. Here you'll find brilliant and balanced people (and yeah some nut-jobs).
What I can tell you is that when you shift your focus from upholding the 'organization' and its rules, to supporting the people, you earn a remarkable peace of mind. That's how I stay in (I have my reasons) and even hold responsabilities as an elder: I just stopped caring about the WTS and its representatives. I don't hate them, I don't antagonize them... I simply ignore them. I care for the people. I know that down the road I'll be put in a situation were I won't be able to hide my real beliefs. I'll cross that bridge when I reach that river.
For whatever it's good, count on me.

but I personally feel that the leadership of the organization is what is reprehensible.
Jeff, you captured what is my stongest feeling. But I come a bit closer to the field. GB -as reprehensible as they are- live in a bubble, disconected from everyday life. I can see (not that I agree) how they become oblivious to the realities that R&F JW's face, and the practical effects and implications of the decisions they make from their towers.
To me the most reprehensible buch has to be the traveling O's. Maybe I'm biased because i was one. But these guys and their wives are on the streets, they see brothers and sisters everyday. They should know how it is; they should be a bit (just a bit at least) more reasonable, more compassionate. But all I see is ego trips, stupid rules left and right, total lack of personal interest in people. In our congregation we have widows, orphans, people battling cancer, old folks in homes, but everytime the CO comes is seems like he's here just to give us a hard time, insisting in the minutiea (e.g. Elders and MS should not sit on the same seats all the time, the microphones, kids running, the lenght of sister x skirt -and forget about who sister x is and what problems she may be facing-, the cards and the paperwork and a very long etc.), while totally overlooking the needs of the congregation. Their 'comfort words' are so hollow, pre-fabricated and un-sincere that it's sickening.
