its members do not regard themselves as the leaders of jehovah's people.
Does not the mere fact that they call themselves "Governing Body" contradict their claim not to be leaders? To govern means to lead. Indeed, the word govern has a stronger meaning than mere leadership. It involves the sovereign exercise of authority over people.
For every finger the Governing Body points up to God (or the Holy Spirit) there are three more pointing down to themselves.
everyone seems to just hate the wt.. i am very upset with the way ive been treated but i dont hate them.. they have given me huge self confidence after helping me out of depression, although i have a fab counsellor, so they cant get all the credit.
they have made me independent as well, (i think my ex-study conductor regrets that!
) i suddenly have a mind of my own and am not afraid to use it.. i owe them quite a lot they have really helped me through some bad times but they have created some bad times for me too.
I learned that evil people don't wear black robes and helmets but are ordinary next door neighbors. They taught me about the banality of evil.
I also learned how to spot contradictions and lies much easier.

we just had a storm pass through here.
it's called bow echo winds(very fast moving storm winds), it is about the entire length of the state of arkansas, now headed for tn.....you all watch out!!!!.
broke alot of tree limbs here, one almost going through our front living room window.
I heard these storms are also called Derecho storms. I wish we had such interesting weather where I live.
my sister, a devoted jw of many decades, has chosen to attend another church.
she has been given a period of time to come to her senses and get back in line.
hopefully, she won't make that mistake.. the way she's being treated now by her former friends and leaders caused her to remark to me, "i never realized before how much they are like a cult.".
You don't have to share the other details SusanHere but we know more or less what it could lead up to.
I'm happy for her and for you.
yes, i am enjoying realizing the truth about the truth.. but there is another side to it.
the world as we know it didn't seem to me to be the way that god intended it to be.
i know i was brainwashed, but it felt good believing that all the bad things would be changed.
Become a techno-utopian. Paradise is something we can build by ourselves if we only change our nature. Resurrection? Time travel can take care of that. It's up to humanity as to whether this society and earth can be turned into a Paradise.

Disfellowshipped for apostacy 30 years ago. I have no family in the JWs which made things simpler.
this one time, the night they disfellowshipped my sorry ass from the christian congregation smerk smerk,i came strolling back from a beer bar and had to pee in a major way so i stumbled my way next to the entry door of the hall and let loose with at lest a picture of rolling rock beer after it was filtered through me kidneys, it still makes me proud..
Shortly after being df'd in absentia (not because I had refused to show up or anything like that) I tore the organization book in half and nailed it to the Kingdom Hall door.

its getting close to assembly time and my wife will be heading up to salt lake to attend the assembly there with her relatives so i will be on my own for a week.

i knew they made an announcement last year about me.
i assumed by the avoidance of so many, and my lack of enthusiasm for "the truth", as well as i have slammed the door on the elders many times now, exiled me.
Vikesgirl, send them a certified letter stating all you told us about them breaking in and use the words harrasment and stalking to describe the elders behavior. Get a court order against them if necessary. Avoid any mention of religion in the letter.

just found this board late last night and can't stop reading, it's fascinating.. let me give you a quick background of myself.
i was born a jw, never baptized, was labeled bad association when i was 12 due to having all worldy friends and smoking, lol.
i was very confused how being that young i could be labelled as that but i was.
Hatchetsup, I recommend Crisis of Conscience and In Search of Christian Freedom both by Raymond Franz like the other posters have recommended. These are absolutely the best books on the subject of JWs as well as Apocalypse Delayed by James Penton.
As far as your fear that you won't make it into "Paradise" in case the Witnesses are "right" just ask yourself why God should damn you just because you have "inaccurate" theology. It should be your heart that counts in the eyes of such a god. Otherwise, and this applies to the god of the Witnesses, He would be like a harsh school teacher who kills you just because you didn't get his theology lesson right.
