That is one of the most beautiful things I've ever read. S. is someone with true character, as are you. Thank you so much for letting us share this with you!

OTWO and Blondie are both right--while non-profit laws are pretty explicit about ownership, the BOD of the non-profit basically controls the assets, though they or the non-profit corp technically do not "own" them. So this KH shell-game reorganization is a very slick way of increasing the amount of $$ under the control of the Org.

Emailed Talk From Governing Body Member Last Weekend
by tryingtoexit inwhat's good a-ebody??
just thought i'd share this email with yall real quick.
it still amazes me that i was a jehovah's witness for 27 years and never thought twice about these types of talks other than i need to make sure my act is together when the end comes, and now i can't even read/hear it without getting mad.

This is troubling on so many levels, I don't know where to start.
So I won't. Except to say to Carla that this is an example of classic cult strategy: We're speaking for God (ie inspired) when we want you to obey us. We're imperfect men when we get something wrong. It's perfect, isn't it? No accountability. Absolutely none. It's like this business with the planned expansion of Walkill that, according to a letter read in our KH a week or 2 back, said would take "several years" to complete. And I turned to my husband and hissed, "But Armaggedon's "imminent"!!!" This org has no accountability for how they use words, tossing around canards like "the time left is reduced" and "imminent" but none of these JW ever say, "Wait a f*ckin' minute--you've been saying "imminent" and "reduced" for the last f*ckin' century..."
No, I'm not going to start. There!!
Now, if y'all excuse me, I have a research paper to finish....

4.4% increase for the US? That's huge! Yet arn't we seeing stagnation and even decrease in all the Eng congs? And while the Spanish might still be growing fast, they would have to be torrential to compensate in such a large way...I don't get it.

I remember a DO saying from the platform at a CA a while back that sisters needed to dress like the characters in the illustrations in the WT and Awake mags--the illustrations of Bible times!!! Yup, he even elaborated on what he meant--the garments were so "long and loose and feminine"!!

Hello from me!
by Gonefullcircle inhello everyone.. after many months of lurking through my the worst time in my life and then not reading any posts since the website changed hands, i just wanted to say hello!.
all the stalwarts on here helped me so much through the worst times (born in, left when i was 34) i was too emotional to ever comment, but now i am ready to help others start to rebuild their worlds.. i just want to give all those doubters of that religion hope and help now that i have gone full circle- hence my user name.
there is lots to say, but i will join in and you will get to know me.. for anyone that is in turmoil with worry over whether to leave or not, i can empathise, but it will be the best decision you ever make!.

This was announced at the svc mtg last night where I am too. The letter specifically said that the project is anticipated to take "several years." When I heard that, I asked my husband how the hell they can reconcile "several years" with the repeated incantation of "imminent" at the last DC to describe Armgdn's approach. Maybe the br. writing the letter never made it to his DC?
Makes me so mad how this org can say what it wants for its own purposes and no one EVER holds them accountable. Talk about duplicitous!!

Evolutionists - please help!
by Georgiegirl inok. (taking deep breath) i am finally at that point in my recovery where i am ready to look at evolution as more than a loose theory which is clearly disprovable by the fact that all the bones proving it could be in a coffin.
or, um, some illustration like that.. i feel like first i have to "unlearn" the jw teaching of evolution to learn what "real" evolution is.
then, learn about that and then see how i feel.

Georgie--Try Evolution: The Triumph of an Idea, by Carl Zimmer. The nice thing about Zimmer is that he's not a scientist but a science writer, and a damn fine one at that--he's won tons of awards. He's got a great way of taking fairly complex ideas and presenting them simply (as opposed to simplistically, which is what the WT does). He sticks to mainstream, cutting edge science--no weird, on-the-fringes stuff--and uses loads of specific examples and easy to understand analogies. In this particular book, he walks through all the different and converging lines of evidence for evolutin, from fossils to dna to ongoing speciation.
Zimmer also has an award winning blog, linked to Discover.com, I believe, that you might enjoy perusing through. I'd recommend some of his older posts as lately he seems to have been caught up in promoting his books. The talkorigins.org website has been mentioned and I'd second that recommendation, especially the essay "23 Evidences for Evolution," (or something along those lines). Check out the "must read" files, too.
Don Prothero's Evolution: What the Fossils Say and Why it Matters, as suggested by Spook, is also first-rate. As well, I enjoyed Richard Fortey's Life: The First Four Billion Years for synthesizing all the different events going on--because evolution happens in along with and as a result of climatological, geological and other ongoing phenomenon and this book, aside from being just a plain enjoyable and approachable read, helps to put it all in context.

Jason David BeDuhn quotes from Truth in Translation--Part 2
by sd-7 intruth in translation: accuracy and bias in english translations of the new testament by jason david beduhn, pages 16-17:.
"we return to our example, 1 thessalonians 4:3-6.... "n[ew] w[orld translation]: for this is what god wills, the sanctifying of you, that you abstain from fornication; that each one of you should know how to get possession of his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in covetous sexual appetite such as also those nations have who do not know god; that no one go to the point of harming and encroach upon the rights of his brother in this matter..... "the kjv, nw, and nasb offer very literal translations...as a result,...the nw sounds stilted and wooden...[here, beduhn compliments the nw for using the term "nations" instead of "gentiles"...continues...see?
he's even-handed, whereas my idea of even-handedness involves slapping the wts with both hands an equal number of times...] the kjv and nw retain the archaic english word 'fornication', while the nasb uses the modern expression 'sexual immorality', which is generic enough to cover most possible meanings of the original greek term.".
