the generation scripture no longer is speaking about 'the end'.
i'll quote it...... side note: tons of lies in this article, i'll point out at the end of the post.
"yet, jesus words at matthew 24:34 give us confidence that at least some of "this generation will by no means pass away" before seeing the start of the great tribulation.".
Bottom line (simplified edition): They (WT/GB/FDS) don't know what the hell they're talking about.
Jesus' words were very simple: The folks that heard his prophecy would see the end of it. About 37 years later (according to what we have in Gospel form today), Jerusalem was destroyed. Less than a 40-year literal Biblical generation. That's it.
Today, the WT is trying desperately to keep the end game alive and they have to snatch at theological straws to do so. They're kicking the eschatological can down the road and the next generation of GB (no pun intended) will have to come up with a new spin when, once more, their prophecy fails to materialize.
Sigh.
What I can't fathom is that so many long-time JWs are still continuing to buy this nonsense.
when i first heard about the new "generation" explanation i was confused because i didn't see clearly how they were explaining it.. now it looks like they finally figured it out for themselves and it is no longer confusing.. it is now a simple, ignorant, bold face lie.. this is from the january 1st watchtower.
(and i hope to hell someone from writing gets wind of this).
paragraph 15 page 31 blue stands for the exact words in the watchtower.
I agree--I was very surprised to see that the GB are ONCE MORE painting themselves into a temporal corner. Um, hello? Didn't you guys just have a huge problem with this in the 1990's, when the "generation of 1914" completely died out? However, the rationale is simple. As has already been mentioned, this is an end-times religion that simply cannot exist without some kind of end times. So, in their very limited imagination, they are trotting out a lame-ass "new light" interpretation that makes absolutely no sense but buys them another 30 years or so at which time it will be someone else's problem.
Except for Mark Sanderson, who's young enough to still be kicking at that time.
Same-old, same-old. You'd think they could do better than this.
first 30 min announcing a collection of bibles collected from r & f that is to go on display at bethel.
also accounts of how they "miraculously" received bibles that they didn't think they could get - eg.
geneva bible.. now - watchtower study review as there is no meeting tomorrow..
Thank you, thank you! Very interesting. I do just want to comment on one tidbit that was said:
Paul did NOT mean to test the faith as in test the religion. We KNOW we have the true religion already
So there's no need to ask questions or do any of that pesky research stuff! No testing your religion! Unless, of course, you're Catholic or Baptist or Mormon or Hindu or Moslem or Jewish or Pentacostal or Wesleyan or Adventist...
just found out my 12 year old niece got baptized on saturday.
that is the same age i got baptized....as we all know it just should not be allowed.
if a child is not mature enough in other areas of life how can they be mature enough to commit their lives to the borg?
So sorry. Hang in there and lead the happiest, most productive life you can--your neice may notice the difference!
.
.
besides, claiming that you know god, is that a humble attitude?!
I believe this is the same brilliant article (or issue) that presents evolution as a false religious doctrine and attempts to refute it on that basis.
With that kind of "logic," there's not much you can do in response except roll your eyes.

here's one extract:.

i made my first post yesterday on an earlier topic about celebrating holidays.
just lois invited me to introduce myself.....hi jl.
where to start?
Welcome and good for you for finding freedom--and true love! Yes, life is good.
i've been lurking a month or two and letting out a comment here and there.a few weeks ago someone asked if i had formally introduced myself.
i was born and raised a witness.
i always found meetings borning and family studies so bad.
Hey--welcome! That is really interesting--I, too, was awakened to the TTATT through an "innocent" foray into credible, third-party (read: Not WT) research. Amazing what you learn actually reading what scholars who have conducted broad and comprehensive studies of the Ancient Near East have written, as well as what geneticists and biologists have discovered. Amazing, isn't it, how the WT brochures and articles supposedly "proving" why the Bible is trustworthy history conveniently avoid mentioning what are certainly smoking guns as to the contrary?
I applaud you for your intellectual courage and motivation to expose the WT's lies and misrepresentations. Most JWs prefer to not look at the seams too closely, choosing the comfort of the social mielieu and the "hope" of living forever. I, too, was heartbroken when it dawned on me that I would never frolic in the golden light of that elephant-and-lion festooned paradise, garbed in the colloquial ethnic dress of centuries past, while smiling maids bore platters of basketball-sized fruit. Damn.
i usually dismiss the "drinking the kool aid" scenarios that are posted from time to time, but the latest wt has another bit of fearmongering.
the quote from page 20, para 17. elders who are reading this article can draw some useful conclusions from the account we have just considered: (1) the most practical step that we can take to prepare for the coming attack of the assyrian is that of strengthening our faith in god and helping our brothers to do the same.
(2) when the assyrian attacks, the elders must be absolutely convinced that jehovah will deliver us.
At first, I didn't believe that this was really in the Nov. WT (sorry--I'm permanently skeptical from being fooled for so long as a JW). I mean, it just sounds so bat-shit crazy. So I went to the site and read the PDF.
Me, before reading it: Me, after reading it:
OMG. This is the scariest issue I've read in a long time. The GB is basically saying, "No matter what we tell you to do, no matter how insane it sounds, you must do it." The worst part is that they have been preparing JWs for a long time now to mistrust their own instincts, to resist their inner voice and to doubt what their heart is telling them, which makes people especially vulnerable to external control. Every study issue of the WT is "Obey, Obey, Obey." On top of that, you have a group that is not particularly well-educated or well-read, and that is socially, intellectually and religiously very isolated. In some ways, they're physically isolated, too, since many JWs don't go anywhere where they might have close contact with "worldlings." This is a recipe for another Jamestown--and I know it's been said before--but when you take the accumulation of all the mind-control tactics together...
I really feel ill and very frightened. I really think something terrible is going to happen in the next couple of years and while, yes, it would be great to have this religion exposed, I shudder to think about what damage will be done to a lot of people.
To me, it seems like a huge red flag and I have to wonder what responsibility we have to warn--I don't know. Warn some authority? I honestly don't know, but it seems like some kind of pro-active action should be taken. On the other hand, I believe in free speech and in people's right to make their own stupid decisions. Thoughts?
