by lrkr incruising down to the city this afternoon we were behind a group of j-dubs on the train.
part of the conversation centered around the "generation" teaching.
all of them clearly trying to wrap their heads around it.

MAJOR DOCTRINE CHANGE IN 1/15/2014 WT ON GENERATION TEACHING
by EndofMysteries inthe generation scripture no longer is speaking about 'the end'.
i'll quote it...... side note: tons of lies in this article, i'll point out at the end of the post.
"yet, jesus words at matthew 24:34 give us confidence that at least some of "this generation will by no means pass away" before seeing the start of the great tribulation.".

Bottom line (simplified edition): They (WT/GB/FDS) don't know what the hell they're talking about.
Jesus' words were very simple: The folks that heard his prophecy would see the end of it. About 37 years later (according to what we have in Gospel form today), Jerusalem was destroyed. Less than a 40-year literal Biblical generation. That's it.
Today, the WT is trying desperately to keep the end game alive and they have to snatch at theological straws to do so. They're kicking the eschatological can down the road and the next generation of GB (no pun intended) will have to come up with a new spin when, once more, their prophecy fails to materialize.
Sigh.
What I can't fathom is that so many long-time JWs are still continuing to buy this nonsense.

The GENERATION explanation is now a BOLD FACE LIE
by scotoma inwhen i first heard about the new "generation" explanation i was confused because i didn't see clearly how they were explaining it.. now it looks like they finally figured it out for themselves and it is no longer confusing.. it is now a simple, ignorant, bold face lie.. this is from the january 1st watchtower.
(and i hope to hell someone from writing gets wind of this).
paragraph 15 page 31 blue stands for the exact words in the watchtower.

I agree--I was very surprised to see that the GB are ONCE MORE painting themselves into a temporal corner. Um, hello? Didn't you guys just have a huge problem with this in the 1990's, when the "generation of 1914" completely died out? However, the rationale is simple. As has already been mentioned, this is an end-times religion that simply cannot exist without some kind of end times. So, in their very limited imagination, they are trotting out a lame-ass "new light" interpretation that makes absolutely no sense but buys them another 30 years or so at which time it will be someone else's problem.
Except for Mark Sanderson, who's young enough to still be kicking at that time.
Same-old, same-old. You'd think they could do better than this.

Thank you, thank you! Very interesting. I do just want to comment on one tidbit that was said:
Paul did NOT mean to test the faith as in test the religion. We KNOW we have the true religion already
So there's no need to ask questions or do any of that pesky research stuff! No testing your religion! Unless, of course, you're Catholic or Baptist or Mormon or Hindu or Moslem or Jewish or Pentacostal or Wesleyan or Adventist...

I believe this is the same brilliant article (or issue) that presents evolution as a false religious doctrine and attempts to refute it on that basis.
With that kind of "logic," there's not much you can do in response except roll your eyes.

Hey--welcome! That is really interesting--I, too, was awakened to the TTATT through an "innocent" foray into credible, third-party (read: Not WT) research. Amazing what you learn actually reading what scholars who have conducted broad and comprehensive studies of the Ancient Near East have written, as well as what geneticists and biologists have discovered. Amazing, isn't it, how the WT brochures and articles supposedly "proving" why the Bible is trustworthy history conveniently avoid mentioning what are certainly smoking guns as to the contrary?
I applaud you for your intellectual courage and motivation to expose the WT's lies and misrepresentations. Most JWs prefer to not look at the seams too closely, choosing the comfort of the social mielieu and the "hope" of living forever. I, too, was heartbroken when it dawned on me that I would never frolic in the golden light of that elephant-and-lion festooned paradise, garbed in the colloquial ethnic dress of centuries past, while smiling maids bore platters of basketball-sized fruit. Damn.
