I don't think he looks any more guilty than any other person who has their photo taken. A photo can't ooze guilt.

All I can say is that if I were in the same situation, if I were in fact attacked by a man (let's not kid ourselves...he was 17, outweighed Zimmerman, and was taller...he was the size of an adult and if he were to commit a crime, he'd possibly be tried as one...for all intents and purposes, this wasn't a "child" that the media portrays by showing young pictures of him) and was being beaten with fists, yeah I'd probably pull out my firearm. First as a warning. Then if it continued, I'd probably fire to wound, not kill...but I say that not being in the heat of the moment, being able to think clearly, and being able to rationalize. Who knows what I'd do if I felt my life were in danger? No one was except for these 2 and one of them is dead. Evidence is scant.

I really hope that if it wasn't intentional to kill Trayvon that Zimmerman doesn't get too harsh of a sentence. I think personally that the media is playing this up because of the upcoming election. How many black kids are killed daily in this country on purpose? Why is it that this one is getting so much attention? There's always something that gets used to sway the vote. I think this is no different.

Its the memorial, NOT EASTER!

my mom says dont say happy easter cause she is not a part of babylon the great...i said 'happy easter' to my brother as a joke and my brother goes back and tells my mom like were little kids (i'm 29 and he's 27 with a new baby by the way) and my mom writes me a lengthy email about how i shouldnt joke about babylon the great.

i am 29 years old, 29. and i can't joke around.

i know all j-dubs arent like this, but a lot of them are just like my mom.

Yeesh... Reminds me of my own mother. I jokingly called her on her birthday and when she answered, I sang "Happy Birthday to you..." (just those 4 words) and laughed. Now, mind you, this has been an ongoing joke in my family. My dad even calls up one of the elders every year and jokes about it being his birthday...complete with those first four words sung jokingly.

My mother, on the other hand...well, I guess since she decided I'm now "worldly", I can no longer joke with the family about such things. She got all upset and sarcastically sang "Don't sing that to me..." in the same tune. I got very pissed off because it just shows the friggin' HYPOCRISY. It's okay for her and my dad to do that with JW friends...but how DARE an inactive JW joke about it?! Ridiculous.

It seems like your brother is a Mama's boy. I wouldn't even bother joking with him about stuff like that anymore. As for your mom, if it were me, I'd make it clear that I will no longer be doing her or "friends" in the congregation any favors if I'm going to be treated like an outcast for making a JOKE, so she shouldn't bother to ask you anymore.

How many got the 'cold shoulder' from JW family that attended the 'special' talk?

well, the memorial and special talk was a one-two punch at trying to guilt inactive ones back to the fold.

while it doesn't affect those of us with clarity, it can impact those who may have been influenced by us undercover apostates, but yet haven't reached a critical crisis of conscious moment of their own.

the 'special' talk especially was aimed at guilting those people back with a good guilt inducing section toward the end of the talk (saw the outline on another thread).. i noticed a marked diffence in attitude in family members who attended the meeting while i stayed home and watched the masters.

I haven't heard from my JW family since Friday, so I can't say what the reaction will be. I plan on calling my mother on Thursday to give her an update on the baby... We'll see what happens.

Chocolate Bunnies & Cadburry Eggs

my jw mom always seemed to buy me a chocolate bunny and some cadburry eggs near easter.

no easter basket or egg coloring or egg hunt - but always a chocolate bunny & eggs made it, somehow, into the house.

i remember she'd say that she always got them when she was a kid.

LOL BtheX, I do that too!! The best is when you take the solid chocolate, melt it down, then fill a small custard or tart pan halfway with chocolate, then peanut butter, then fill the rest of the way with chocolate and refrigerate it until it gets solid. GIANT peanut butter cups!!!

I hate my mother/family

hi people.

i have never had any affection for my mother and this has evolved into full blown hatred.. .

have been to a counsellor for a number of reasons and she described my mother as a sadist.. .

I can't say I "hate" my family... I despise the things that were done to me as a child, for sure. I resent some things about my parents because of that. However, they did give me help when I needed it, so I can't say I hate them. I hate what they did. I hate what this cult has done to my dad.

Now, my grandmother and grandfather? YES, I hated them with every ounce of my being (which is pretty substantial). They were horrible people, deserving of hatred.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this from your mother. If she's a toxic person, it might just be better for you to cut ties altogether. Why should you be made to feel constantly angry and be put on a guilt trip for something she herself did?

What came first? Atheism or the "apostasy" in JW terms?

for those who are atheists: did you become an atheist while being a jw, then left, or did you not view them as the true religion and left, but still believed in god/bible, but later turned to atheism?.

In my situation, I always questioned the existence of god...from the time I was a kid. So I guess you could say I was Agnostic, but went through the motions of being a JW "just in case". During my fade from the JW's, I started delving more into Evolution, the history of the bible itself, etc. Eventually, that led me to conclude that there is no evidence to support the existence of god. By that time, I was completely out.

Help! I need sane people...

latley i have been telling some of my family members that i don't beleive anymore, i had my mom especially not really beleiving either...then today's special talk scared her into submission to the wt society.

i guess the brother started crying during the part when they were telling inactive people to come back to jehovah.

she now says she's going to be a regular auxillary pioneer and that she's not going to give up on serving jah now cause she's afraid she's going to die.

You probably are, unfortunately.

The thing is, Memorial Season with the "Special Talk", District Conventions, and Special Assembly Days all gear the JW's up to get back on the ball...for a little while. She'll probably burn out soon and be right back to where she was...just in time for another DC or SAD. It's a cycle I remember well. My ex would get all gung-ho after some special JW event and really crack down on EVERYTHING, insisting I go door to door more, insisting we get rid of this or that. And he wondered why I would always get depressed and angry after an assembly, DC, or special talk.

I'd say back off a bit on your mom because her cult personality is in full force right now and no amount on begging or reasoning from you will change that. It might push her away, which you don't want. Give it time before you open the subject for discussion.

There's a forum I visit through my phone and there was a girl on there in one of the Christian threads inviting people to go to the special talk tomorrow... The funny thing is, before I could even say a thing, 2 other people jumped in and said JW's were a cult and twisted the bible to suit their agenda...and these were people who were not former JW's or anything.

Time for an Intervention

come this july, i will have been out of the jw's for 20 years.

and it has been quite a long time since i've really spent any serious time studying up on jw news and doctrines although i do still read here occasionally.

but after today looks like i've got some work to do.. my first sergeant called me this morning asking for my help to fix his dad's truck as i'm an auto technician in my civilian job.
