I've been 'talked to' at work before too, over something petty but it was extremely embarrassing and completely inappropriate. I worked on a checkout, scanning customers items and taking money for their groceries. I was approached one day, about the length of my skirt at meetings . I was really berated, in front of customers, bosses. Enough that I burst into tears and fled out the back, leaving behind unhappy customers. If there ever was a bad witness, they sure gave one that day. I never did lengthen my skirts - they were already covering my knees!

A sense of pride and new found confidence
by highdose inhey guys!
i'm back from my first ever date with a non jw guy!
i'll tell more about that later, but as i was on the way there i remembered about how i used to pray before meeting a jw date, ( none of which ever worked out) and i realised that not praying and not attributing everything good to god has really boosted my confidence and thereby my pride.. it means that whatever goes right in my life is down to me and my hard work.

Could The Tragic Death of Our First Child Be Why My Wife is Still a JW?
by lifelong humanist inafter 6 years since i dad myself, it has just dawned on me today, that my jw wife is (probably) only still involved with her jw religion because of her religious belief in a resurrection back to life on a 'paradise earth'!.
let me please explain - our first child was a wee girl, born in 1972. her name was joanna.
she was a great, intelligent, healthy child and we were both proud parents with a marvellous hope - a 'jw' certified version of the future ahead of us!.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear of your loss :( My oldest child is that age right now, I cannot imagine how devastating it must have been for you and your wife to go through I think you may be right that the resurrection hope is keeping her in her faith. It is a way of coping with loss but it doesn't deal with the grief in a complete sense. It just 'puts it off' until the hope is fulfilled (resurrection).
I have had more than one miscarriage, before the 'new light' came about in May this year (where miscarried babies may be resurrected). So when I suffered my losses, I should have grieved properly, yet I wasn't able to (won't go into it now). A part of me died when I lost my babies. Nothing ever prepares us for death and loss, even if it's expected (such as in cases of long illness etc).
Have you tried talking to your wife about it? Or has too much time passed? You might broach the subject with her, to get a feel for how she's thinking.
Once again, so sorry for your loss.

Swine Flu
by purplesofa inwell, i was wondering if anyone here has had swine flu?.
i got it last week.. my son, daughter and granddaughter have it now.. jada was sent to the emergency room at the childrens hospitol here yesterday.
her symptoms were bad and she is under two.. so they sent her there.. the entire emergency room staff, security etc were wearing masks.. apparently it is getting worse here, the amount of cases.. it was a brutal sickness, i can't imagine babies and elderly dealing with it well at all.. although, i got sick with the symptoms a week ago, i feel very weak and tired and have a terrible cough still.. i read on one site the symptoms being disorientation and confusion, which i experianced.. has anyone here had it, how did you survive it?.

With the flu I had, I couldn't move any part of my body. I was on codeine up to the eyeballs and still unable to move about. I literally stayed in bed 4 days. When the Dr finally made a house visit in the early hours of the morning, I could barely even get to the door! I had the usual fever, sweating etc but it was the aching that almost killed me. It was all over in 4 days. Weird!

Hey long time no see!!! I'm a JWD old timer lol
by Sirona ini used to post here...a lot!.
just thought i'd say hello to you all...you wonderful people who got out of the jw cult!
i have come to believe that we are an amazing bunch of people - we made our way despite all the odds and fought for individuality - and won.. even today i was told that going back to the hall would solve my problems (by a jw family member) and i honestly can say that i felt amusement.

Hi Sirona! Nice to meet you :) Babies are so precious. While I miss mine being so young, I'm grateful for getting a little more sleep these days!

Hope you all feel better soon! It's a nasty flu for sure and set to keep on spreading.
I had suspected swine flu a few months ago, but at that time they weren't testing for it anymore. Still, few days ago I went and had the shot. My Dr said even if I'd already had swine flu, it was ok to get the shot 'just in case'. The flu I had a few months back, my god, I thought I would die. Absolutely horrendous and THE worst pain I have ever been in. Worse than childbirth! Thankfully only lasted 4 days of that extreme pain.
Oh and I have to add, when I got this flu...I had already had the seasonal flu shot a couple of months prior. So it's highly likely it was swine flu I had.

Sister "Elly" vanishes
by MinisterAmos inmy daughter is 18 and goes to meetings from time-to-time basically to mess with the dubs (she always wears mini-skirts) and keep up on gossip....she actually filled me in on this but i find it amusing.. sister "elly" (we'll just call her that) the buxom vixen of our spanish congo suddenly stopped showing up to meetings.
my curiosity became aroused when not one single person asked her mom about her!.
her mom and step-dad are super-dubs, the kind who take it personally if a child draws pictures during the meeting rather than sit ram-rod straight, if a bro uses the john more than once, or if a sister "forgets" her hose.

Sad story....but not all witnesses are like that. My mom always said that if we got pregnant or our brother got someone pregnant, she'd stand by us and support us. It never happened, but we knew that if it did, we'd have support.
Amos, I've got a witness wedding to go to soon and I'm already cringing over the wedding talk

His letter feels really 'empty'. There's an air of sadness to it. I think beyond what is happening to Bethel, more in his heart.

Well my husband was definitely the willful non provider/supporter. He had no reason other than his laziness not to work. Even now that he has abandoned us, and is not Df, he does not support his children.
And the 'extreme' physical abuse...isn't any abuse, abuse? It doesn't have to be extreme.

Rebuilding lives - How?
by KingAgag inin a recent thread by mr. flipper, he encouraged people like myself - out (although not officially) of the cult, and young enough to live our dreams.
'get an education' etc.
well, i'd love to, excet i am in a dead end job with no satisfaction because i don't have further education.

Have you thought about distance education? Many Universities offer study online, at your own pace. You could still work and just do your assignments and exams by distance.
